A measurement is presented of the production of Z bosons that decay into two electrons or muons in association with jets, in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were recorded by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$. The differential cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) of the Z boson and the transverse momentum and rapidities of the five jets with largest $p_\mathrm{T}$. The jet multiplicity distribution is measured for up to eight jets. The hadronic activity in the events is estimated using the scalar sum of the $p_\mathrm{T}$ of all the jets. All measurements are unfolded to the stable particle-level and compared with predictions from various Monte Carlo event generators, as well as with expectations at leading and next-to-leading orders in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.
Measured cross section as a function of the transverse momenum of the first jet, $p_{\text{T}}(\text{j}_1)$, and breakdown of the relative uncertainty.
The $\Upsilon$(1S), $\Upsilon$(2S), and $\Upsilon$(3S) production cross sections are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.8 $\pm$ 1.4 inverse picobarns of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The Upsilon resonances are identified through their decays to dimuons. Integrated over the $\Upsilon$ transverse momentum range $p_{t}^{\Upsilon} \lt$ 50GeV and rapidity range |$y^\Upsilon$| $\lt$ 2.4, and assuming unpolarized Upsilon production, the products of the Upsilon production cross sections and dimuon branching fractions are \begin{equation*}\sigma(pp \to \Upsilon(1S) X) . B(\Upsilon(1S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-) = (8.55 \pm 0.05^{+0.56}_{-0.50} \pm 0.34) nb,\end{equation*} \begin{equation*}\sigma(pp \to \Upsilon(2S) X) . B(\Upsilon(2S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-) = (2.21 \pm 0.03^{+0.16}_{-0.14} \pm 0.09) nb,\end{equation*} \begin{equation*}\sigma(pp \to \Upsilon(3S) X) . B(\Upsilon(3S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-) = (1.11 \pm 0.02^{+0.10}_{-0.08} \pm 0.04) nb, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is from the uncertainty in the integrated luminosity. The differential cross sections in bins of transverse momentum and rapidity, and the cross section ratios are presented. Cross section measurements performed within a restricted muon kinematic range and not corrected for acceptance are also provided. These latter measurements are independent of Upsilon polarization assumptions. The results are compared to theoretical predictions and previous measurements.
The fiducial and acceptance corrected UPSI(3S) production cross sections (times di-muon branching ratio) as a function of PT for the |rapidity| range 2.0 to 2.4. Note these are integrated cross sections and the acceptance-corrected cross sections assume the UPSI(3S) are unpolarized with the variations due to the 4 extreme polarization scenarios shown in the last 4 columns. The fiducial cross sections do not need to make any assumptions on the polarizations scenarios. The luminosity uncertainty of 4% is not included in the systematic errors.
A measurement of the J/psi and psi(2S) production cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 inverse picobarns. Using a fit to the invariant mass and decay length distributions, production cross sections have been measured separately for prompt and non-prompt charmonium states, as a function of the meson transverse momentum in several rapidity ranges. In addition, cross sections restricted to the acceptance of the CMS detector are given, which are not affected by the polarization of the charmonium states. The ratio of the differential production cross sections of the two states, where systematic uncertainties largely cancel, is also determined. The branching fraction of the inclusive B to psi(2S) X decay is extracted from the ratio of the non-prompt cross sections to be: BR(B to psi(2S) X) = (3.08 +/- 0.12(stat.+syst.) +/- 0.13(theor.) +/- 0.42(BR[PDG])) 10^-3
The non-prompt fraction (FB) of J/PSI times branching ratio to MU+ MU- from B-HADRON decays in the |rapidity| bin 0.9-1.2.
The inclusive J/psi production cross-section and fraction of J/psi mesons produced in B-hadron decays are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, using 2.3 pb-1 of integrated luminosity. The cross-section is measured from a minimum pT of 1 GeV to a maximum of 70 GeV and for rapidities within |y| < 2.4 giving the widest reach of any measurement of J/psi production to date. The differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt J/psi are separately determined and are compared to Colour Singlet NNLO*, Colour Evaporation Model, and FONLL predictions.
Summary table of all sources of considered systematic uncertainty and statistical uncertainty (as a percentage) on the corrected inclusive J/psi production cross-section, for absolute J/psi rapidities within 0.75<|y|<1.5. The sources of systematic error shown are, in order, Acceptance, Muon recognition, Trigger, Fitting and the Total systematics. Also shown in the last error is the possible envelope of variation the central result due to uncertainty on spin-alignment of the J/psi.
The production of $\Upsilon$ mesons in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt=7$ and $8\,\mathrm{TeV}$ is studied with the LHCb detector using data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ and $2\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ respectively. The production cross-sections and ratios of cross-sections are measured as functions of the meson transverse momentum $p_T$ and rapidity $y$, for $p_T<30\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$} and $2.0<y<4.5$.
The ratio of differential cross-section $\mathrm{d} \sigma ( pp \to ( \Upsilon \to \mu^+ \mu^- ) X ) / \mathrm{d}y$ for $\sqrt{s}=8$ and $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and $p_T < 30$ GeV/$c$.
