The production of Λ hypernuclei was studied in proton reactions with Bi nuclei and the lifetime of the produced heavy hypernuclei was measured by the observation of delayed fission using the recoil shadow method. The measurements were performed at 1.9 GeV proton energy whereas the background was determined at 1.0 GeV. From the distribution of the fission fragments in the shadow region the lifetime τ=[161±7( statist. )±14( system. )] ps was obtained and from a comparison of counting rates of prompt and delayed fission fragments the production cross section of hot Λ hypernuclei was determined to be (350±140) μ b.

Polarization transfer observables in π + d elastic scattering have been measured for the first time. Four polarization transfer parameters were determined at pion energies T π =134 MeV and 180 MeV at scattering angles θ π ,C.M. between 100° and 140° using a deuteron target polarized perpendicular to the scattering plane and a deuteron tensor polarimeter. The data are compared to different predictions from the SAID phase shift analysis and Faddeev calculations.

The reaction pp → K + Λp was measured exclusively at the cooler synchrotron COSY at beam momenta of p Beam = 2.50 GeV/c and p Beam = 2.75 GeV/c using the TOF detector. Angular and momentum distributions were obtained for the full phase space of the reaction products. Total cross sections were extracted to be (2.7 ± 0.3) μ b and (12.0 ± 0.4) μ b, respectively. The polarization of the Λ -hyperon was determined as a function of its transversal momentum and was found to be negative for transverse momentum transfers of p T ≥ 0.3 GeV/c. The results together with existing data are compared with phenomenological parametrizations and model calculations on the basis of meson exchange.

The 1H(e,e′K+)Λ reaction was studied as a function of the squared four-momentum transfer, Q2, and the virtual photon polarization, ɛ. For each of four Q2 settings, 0.52, 0.75, 1.00, and 2.00 (GeV/c)2, the longitudinal and transverse virtual photon cross sections were extracted in measurements at three virtual photon polarizations. The Q2 dependence of the σL/σT ratio differs significantly from current theoretical predictions. This, combined with the precision of the measurement, implies a need for revision of existing calculations.

The double differential cross section of low momentum kaons ( ≤0.3GeV/c) from p+C collisions at subthreshold bombarding energies has been for the first time measured by the use of the CLAMSUD magnetic spectrometer installed at the CELSIUS storage ring. Invariant cross sections extracted from the data show a source rapidity shifted below the nucleon-nucleon rapidity, in agreement with the existence of multistep processes in the K+ production cross section. The total cross section of the inclusive reaction 12C(p,K+) at 1.2 GeV was extracted and compared with recent data systematics as a function of the proton bombarding energy.

J/ ψ and ψ ′ production cross-sections are measured in pp and pd collisions at 450 GeV/ c at the CERN-SPS. The Drell-Yan cross section for muon pairs in the mass range [4.3–8.0] GeV/ c 2 is also determined in the same experiment.

Inclusive production of the f_0(980), f_2(1270) and \phi(1020) resonances has been studied in a sample of 4.3 million hadronic Z^0 decays from the OPAL experiment at LEP. A coupled channel analysis has been used for the f_0 in simultaneous fits to the resonances in inclusive \pi+\pi- and K+K- mass spectra. Fragmentation functions are reported for the three states. Total inclusive rates are measured to be 0.141 +/- 0.007 +/- 0.011 f_0, 0.155 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.018 f_2, and 0.091 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.003 \phi mesons per hadronic Z^0 decay. The production properties of the f_0, including those in three-jet events, are compared with those of the f_2 and \phi, and with the Lund string model of hadron production. All measurements are consistent with the hypothesis that the f_0 is a conventional qq(bar) scalar meson.

Fragmentation functions. Additional systematic errors of 7.6 PCT for F0, 11.6 PCT for F2 and 3.5 PCT for PHI. The uncorrelated systematic errors for F0 and F2 are negligible in comparison to the other errors.
A study has been performed of the reaction pbar p -> 4K using in-flight antiprotons from 1.1 to 2.0 GeV/c incident momentum interacting with a hydrogen jet target. The reaction is dominated by the production of a pair of phi mesons. The pbar p -> phi phi cross section rises sharply above threshold and then falls continuously as a function of increasing antiproton momentum. The overall magnitude of the cross section exceeds expectations from a simple application of the OZI rule by two orders of magnitude. In a fine scan around the xi/f_J(2230) resonance, no structure is observed. A limit is set for the double branching ratio B(xi -> pbar p) * B(xi -> phi phi) < 6e-5 for a spin 2 resonance of M = 2.235 GeV and Width = 15 MeV.
