A peak in the pK−π+ and p¯K+π− invariant-mass spectra at 2.285±0.006 GeV/c2 is observed, which is associated with the lowest-lying charmed baryon (Λc). A cross section times branching ratio of 0.037±0.012 nb at Ec.m.=5.2 GeV is measured with a substantial fraction of the events produced with an equal recoiling mass. New measurements of inclusive p and Λ cross sections are also presented, allowing an estimate of the branching ratio B(Λc→pK−π+)=0.022±0.010.
THE TOTAL INCLUSIVE CHARMED LAMBDA CROSS SECTION IS DERIVED FROM THE OBSERVED PRODUCTION RATE VIA THE <P K- PI+> CHANNEL USING THE STEP IN INCLUSIVE PROTON PRODUCTION AT THE CHARMED-BARYON THRESHOLD AND REASONABLE ASSUMPTIONS. THE BRANCHING RATIO (LAMBDA/C+ --> P K- PI+) IS THEN 2.2 +- 1.0 PCT.

CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN APPLIED FOR CONTRIBUTIONS FROM BEAM-GAS SCATTERING, TWO PHOTON SCATTERING, TAU HEAVY LEPTON PAIR PRODUCTION, AND FOR RADIATIVE EFFECTS. THE 13 AND 17 GEV MEASUREMENTS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN R. BRANDELIK ET AL., PL 83B, 261 (1979).
PRELIMINARY INCLUSIVE CHARGED PARTICLE DISTRIBUTIONS.
A description is given of an experimental study of exchange degeneracy (EXD) in hypercharge-exchange reactions using the line-reversed partners π + p→K + Σ + (K − p→ π − Σ + ) and π + p→ K + Σ + (1385) (K − p→ π − Σ + (1385)) at incident momenta of 7.0 and 10.1 GeV/ c . Both pairs of reaction were measured in the same apparatus, with particular care being taken to minimize relative normalization errors. For the Σ production reactions we present high statistics measurements of the differential cross sections and polarizations from t ′=0 to large t . The general trends of the data agree with naive expectations from weak EXD. The cross-section difference in the extreme forward direction at the higher momentum is consistent with zero and there is a general reduction in the cross-section differences going from the lower to the higher momentum. The polarizations are approximately equal in magnitude and of opposite sign between the two reactions. On the other hand, the data do not agree with the detailed predictions of EXD. The slope for the positive reaction is systematically steeper in the forward region than for the negative reaction and there is a complex s and t dependence for the cross-section differences including a cross-over at t ⋍ −0.8( GeV /c) 2 . For the Σ(1385) production reactions, we present differential cross-section measurements in the forward region (| t |<0.3(GeV/ c ) 2 ). The cross-section differences are substantial and essentially constant over the s and t ranges studied.

We observe production of a Ξ * (2370) in the reactions K − p→ [YK¯π] K, [YK¯π] Kπ and [ΩK] (K or Kπ) at 8.25 GeV/ c in a high statistics bubble chamber experiment. The mass and width are determined to be 2373 ± 8 MeV and 80 ± 25 MeV, respectively. The I = 1/2 assignment is strongly favoured.
CROSS SECTIONS FOR PRODUCTION OF XI(2370) --> (LAMBDA + SIGMA) AK PI. BREIT-WIGNER FIT WITH POLYNOMIAL BACKGROUND. XI(2370) PRODUCED BY BARYON EXCHANGE. CORRECTED FOR NEUTRAL DECAYS AND GEOMETRICAL LOSSES. <OMEGA-KAON> DECAY SEEN. OBSERVED RATIO OF CHARGED TO NEUTRAL XI(2370) PRODUCTION IS 2.7 +- 0.9.
We present the first data on photon-photon annihilation into hadrons for CM energies > 1 GeV obtained with the detector PLUTO at the e + e − storage ring PETRA. Cross sections are extracted using an inelastic eγ scattering formalism. The results are compared to expectations from Regge-like models.
DEPENDENCE OF CROSS SECTION FOR ELECTRON-PHOTON SCATTERING (ANALOGOUS TO HAND'S FORMULA) ON VISIBLE HADRONIC ENERGY, CALCULATED BY TAKING PION MASSES FOR ALL CHARGED PARTICLES.
Single photon production in pp collisions at 30 < √ s < 62 GeV has been measured with liquid-argon-lead calorimeters at the CERN ISR. This process remains approximately constant with increasing √ s . For fixed √ s , the single photon to π 0 ratio increases strongly with increase in p T . The γ π 0 ratio is about 0.2 for p T above 4.5 GeV/c.

The cross section for the process e + e − → multihadrons has been measured at the highest PETRA energies. We measure R (the total cross section in units of the point-like e + e - → μ + μ - cross section) to be 2.9 ± 0.7, 4.0 ± 0.5, 4.6 ± 0.4 and 4.2 ± 0.6 at s of 22, 27.7, 30 and 31.6 GeV, respectively. The observed average multiplicity, together with existing low energy data, indicate a rapid increase in multiplicity with increasing energy.
STATISTICAL ERRORS ONLY. RADIATIVE CORRECTIONS APPLIED AND TAU HEAVY LEPTON CONTRIBUTION SUBTRACTED. AVERAGE VALUE OF R FOR ALL THESE DATA IS 4.14 +- 0.26.
AVERAGE CHARGE MULTIPLICITY. ADDITIONAL, SYSTEMATIC ERROR IS ABOUT 1.5.
The inclusive γ and π0 momentum distributions at the ψ have been measured. Using these data and estimates of η production, it is found that (4.1 ± 0.8)% of ψ decays contain a direct photon with energy greater than 60% of the beam energy. The expected momentum distribution for direct photons calculated to lowest order in quantum chromodynamics is qualitatively different from that observed in the data.
INCLUSIVE PHOTON AND PI0 MOMENTUM DISTRIBUTION.
The inclusive γ and π0 momentum spectra from ψ(3100) decay have been measured in e+e− annihilation at SPEAR. When the γ spectrum is compared with that expected from π0 decay, an excess of high-momentum γ's is observed. This excess is compared with that predicted by quantum chromodynamics for the decay of the ψ into a γ and two gluons.

We present a measurement of the cross section for hadron production by e+e− annihilation in the vicinity of the previously observed resonance near 3.77 GeV. The data are used to determine the parameters of the ψ(3770) resonance. The values found are: mass, 3764±5 MeV/c2, total width, 23.5±5 MeV, and partial width to electron pairs, 276±50 eV.
THESE RESULTS ARE ALSO IN THE THESIS OF R. H. SCHINDLER, SLAC-219 (1979), THE RECORD OF WHICH CONTAINS THE TABULATED CROSS SECTIONS.
