The polarization for the K + n elastic and charge-exchange reactions was measured at the momenta of 1.06, 1.28, 1.39 and 1.49 GeV/ c . It was found to be negative for the K + n elastic process and generally positive for the charge-exchange process. The present results are compared with the predictions of phase shift analyses.

The authors have measured the polarization of 2.4×105 Λ0 hyperons in inclusive production by 12-GeV protons on tungsten at three production angles, 3.5°, 6.5°, and 9.5°. In terms of Feynman's xF and transverse momentum of Λ0, the kinematical range is 0.3<~xF<~0.8 and 0.4<~pT<~1.6 GeV/c. The observed polarization does not depend strongly on xF and increases linearly with pT to 16% at pT=1.0 GeV/c, showing a tendency to level off above that point.

The results of the study of the π + p→K + ∑ + (1) and π + p→K + ∑ + (1385) (2) reactions at 12 GeV/ c are presented. The differential cross sections d σ /d t in| t min |<| t |<0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 momentum transfer range are measured. The ∑ + polarisation for | t |<0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 for reaction (1) is defined. Binary reactions (1) and (2) were selected by analyzing the missing mass spectra for the forward emitted fast K + meson. The total cross sections in the studied momentum transfer range are 20.2±2.4 μ b and 7.3±1.1 μ b for the reactions (1) and (2) respectively. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of the Regge models which take into account rescattering and secondary singularities.

Results are presented from a study of the reaction p p→ Λ Λ near threshold. Over 3000 events recorded at s values 14.6 and 25.5 MeV above the Λ Λ threshold (2231.2 MeV) have been analysed. Results for the production cross section, differential cross section, and the Λ and Λ polarization are given at both energies and are compared with recent theoretical calculations of this process.

The polarization parameters for the π + +p→K + +∑ + reaction have been measured at 13 laboratory momenta between 1490 and 2069 MeV/ c in the angular range of −0.1⩽ cos θ K ∗ ⩽0.7 with higher statistics than previous experiments. In general, the present results agree well with the results at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. It is found, however, that there exist small but systematic differences which can be attributed to certain coefficients in Legendre expansions. The physical significance of these differences is discussed.

The inclusive production of Ks0, Λ, Λ¯, and Ks0Λ in the p¯Ta reaction at 4 GeV/c was measured and compared with that in the p¯p reaction. The total inelastic and topological cross sections were also measured. The number of Λ’s produced in the p¯Ta reaction was 11.3 times larger than that expected from the geometrical cross section, which is defined as A2/3 times the cross section for the p¯p reaction. The yield ratio Λ¯/Λ was found to be 2×10−2. These values cannot be accounted for by a straightforward extension of the p¯N reaction. Besides, a correlation of 2 vees like Ks0-Λ could not prove their simultaneous production. Nuclear temperatures of 135 and 97 MeV were obtained from the kinetic energy spectra of Ks0 and Λ, respectively. The kinematical characteristics of the Ks0 and Λ produced were analyzed in terms of the fireball model.

The excitation function of the reaction p p→ Λ Λ in the threshold region has been measured at LEAR. Sixteen measurements of the total cross section, in the energy range between 0.85 MeV below threshold and 4.05 MeV above, are presented. The shapes of the measured differential cross sections indicate a remarkably strong p-wave contribution even down to the reaction threshold. We also report here the measurement of significant polarizations in the threshold region; these are compared with previous higher-energy data.
