Differential and total cross-sections for photoproduction of gamma proton to proton pi0 omega and gamma proton to Delta+ omega were determined from measurements of the CB-ELSA experiment, performed at the electron accelerator ELSA in Bonn. The measurements covered the photon energy range from the production threshold up to 3GeV.

Two (Δ(1238)ππ) enhancements at 1.93 and 2.12 GeV have been observed in an analysis of the invariant-mass spectra of Δ++(1238)π-π0 and Δ++(1238)π-π- from π-p→π-pπ+π-π0 events in 4.5 GeV/c π-p interactions. An enhancement at 2.2 GeV is also seen with a dominant branching to the Δ(1238)ρ system. The 1.93 and 2.12 enhancements seem to be produced mainly through a ρ-meson exchange process. The 2.2 GeV enhancement seems to be produced diffractively and is considered to correspond to theG17(2190) state.

A sample of 43000 two-prong events obtained at a momomentum of 11.7 GeV/c is used to determine the cross-sections of the fitted channels, and to study the reaction π+p→π+pπ0. We investigate in particular the quasi-two-body channels π0Δ++ and ρ+p.

Evidence is presented for an enhancement in the ωππ mass spectrum at the A2 mass region in π+p interactions at 5 GeV/c. Assuming this effect to be the A2, we calculate the decay rate relative to the ρπ decay mode and obtain the results 0.29 ± 0.08 and 0.10 ± 0.04 for the two final states A20Δ++ and A2+p, respectively. Possible explanations of the discrepancy between these numbers are suggested.

Approximately 60 000 events have been collected in a spark chamber experiment at the CERN Proton Synchrotron which studied elastic diffraction scattering of π--p and p-p at incident momenta of 8.5, 12.4 and 18.4 GeV/c and of π+-p at 8.5 and 12.4 GeV/c. Magnetic analysis of the incoming and diffraction scattered particle, together with measurement of all angles, permitted each event to be determined as elastic subject to three constraints, so that the inelastic background was rejected with. high efficiency, even at the larger momentum, transfers. Much of the data have been processed by the CERN Automatic Flying-Spot DigitizerHPD. A detailed description of the experimental technique and of the methods of analysis is given. The results, together with data from lower energies, confirm the remarkable energy-independence of the shape of the pion-proton diffraction scattering peak up to |t| = 1.5 (GeV/c)2, wheret is the square of the four-momentum transfer, over a range of pion energies from 2 to 18 GeV. Proton-proton scattering does however appear to show a shrinking diffraction peak. In general, the data agree with other experiments using both counter and bubble chamber techniques, but some differences do appear. During the experiment, data were taken which set an upper limit of 2·102 μb/(GeV/c)2 on the differential elastic cross-section dσ/dt over a range of |t| from 20.9 to 23.4 (GeV/c)2 at 13.4 GeV/c incident pion momentum.

Data of the ηπ − system were obtained in the reaction π − p → ηπ − p at 6.3 GeV/ c beam momentum. About 17 k events of ηπ − were collected in the mass range 0.8 ⩽ M ηπ - ⩽ 1.8 GeV/ c 2 and in the range of the momentum transfer squared 0.075 ⩽ | t ′| ⩽ 0.60 (GeV/ c ) 2 . A large forward-backward asymmetry was observed around 1.3 GeV/ c 2 in the Gottfried-Jackson frame of the ηπ − system. A partial wave analysis of the data was performed. A peak of the D + wave attributed to a 2 (1320) is clearly seen. An enhancement is observed around 1.3 GeV/ c 2 in the P + wave.

The differential elastic scattering cross section for 2.24 GeV/ c K − p collisions has been measured in film from the Brookhaven 20″ bubble chamber. The total elastic cross section is found to be 6.2 ± 0.7 mb. The exponential dependence on square of the momentum t in (GeV/ c ) 2 is fitted by ( d σ d Ω elastic = (12.4 ± 1.0 mb/sr) exp (7.81 ± 0.25)t . The reactionsπ−p→K0(890) Λ,K0(890)Σ0 andK0(890)Σ0 are studied at an incident momentum of 3.95 GeV/c using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment corresponding to ∼90 events/μb. The differential cross sections, density matrix elements of the vector meson and hyperon polarizations are presented. A transversity amplitude analysis is performed for each of the reactions. The results are compared with those obtained for the SU(3) related processesK−p→ϕΔ, ϕΣ0, ϕΣ0(1385) andϱ−Σ+(1385) and with predictions of the additive quark model and SU(6) sum rules.

We studied the exclusive reaction e p --> e' p' phi using the phi --> K^+ K^- decay mode. The data were collected using a 4.2 GeV incident electron beam and the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. Our experiment covers the range in Q^2 from 0.7 to 2.2 GeV^2, and W from 2.0 to 2.6 GeV. Taken together with all previous data, we find a consistent picture of phi production on the proton. Our measurement shows the expected decrease of the t-slope with the vector meson formation time c Delta tau below 2 fm. At = 0.6 fm, we measure b_phi = 2.27 +- 0.42 GeV^-2. The cross section dependence on W as W^{0.2+-0.1} at Q^2 = 1.3 GeV^2 was determined by comparison with phi production at HERA after correcting for threshold effects. This is the same dependence as observed in photoproduction.

An investigation has been performed of some properties of Σ(1660) produced in the reaction K−p→Σ+(1660)π− at 2.87 GeV/c incident K− momentum. The decay modes observed for this state include Λ(1405)π and Σπ. The spin and parity are measured to be JP=32−. The differential cross section of the Λ(1405)π decay mode is sharply peaked in the forward direction, falling exponentially with a slope of 5.6 ± 0.7 (GeV/c)−2, while the slope for the Σ0π+ decay mode is 2.1 ± 0.4 (GeV/c)−2. The difference in the ratio of backward to total events for the two decay modes also suggests that two Σ(1660)'s exist.
