We present the measurement of the $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross section of $\omega$ mesons in pp and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV at midrapidity by ALICE. In addition, the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm{pPb}}$ for $\omega$ mesons at LHC energies is presented, complementing the existing measurements of lighter neutral mesons such as the $\pi^0$ and $\eta$. Within the measured $p_{\rm T}$-range, the $R_{\rm{pPb}}$ of $\omega$ mesons shows no cold nuclear matter effects within the uncertainties, consistent with previous measurements at lower energies. The $\omega/\pi^0$ ratio is presented for both collision systems, showing no collision system dependence within the uncertainties. The comparison to previously published $\omega/\pi^0$ ratios at lower and higher collision energies in pp collisions suggests a decreasing trend of the ratio above $p_{\rm T} = 4$ GeV/$c$ with increasing collision energy. The data in both collision systems are compared to predictions from PYTHIA 8, EPOS LHC and DPMJET event generators, revealing significant shortcomings in these models' ability to describe the production of $\omega$ mesons.

Light neutral-meson production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

The momentum-differential invariant cross sections of ${\pi^{0}}$ and $\eta$ mesons are reported for pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at midrapidity ($|y|<0.8$). The measurement is performed in a broad transverse-momentum range of $0.2<p_{\rm T}<200$ GeV/$c$ and $0.4<p_{\rm T}<60$ GeV/$c$ for the ${\pi^{0}}$ and $\eta$, respectively, extending the $p_{\rm T}$ coverage of previous measurements. Transverse-mass-scaling violation of up to 60% at low transverse momentum has been observed, agreeing with measurements at lower collision energies. Transverse Bjorken $x$ ($x_{\rm T}$) scaling of the ${\pi^{0}}$ cross sections at LHC energies is fulfilled with a power-law exponent of $n$ = 5.01$\pm$0.05, consistent with values obtained for charged pions at similar collision energies. The data is compared to predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations, where the ${\pi^{0}}$ spectrum is best described using the CT18 parton distribution function and the NNFF1.0 or BDSS fragmentation function. Expectations from PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC overestimate the spectrum for the ${\pi^{0}}$ and are not able to describe the shape and magnitude of the $\eta$ spectrum. The charged-particle multiplicity dependent ${\pi^{0}}$ and $\eta$ $p_{\rm T}$ spectra show the expected hardening with increasing multiplicity. This is demonstrated across a broad transverse-momentum range and up to events with a charged-particle multiplicity exceeding five times the mean value in minimum bias collisions. The absolute magnitude of the $\eta/\pi^{0}$ ratio shows a dependence on the charged-particle multiplicity for $p_{\rm T}<4$ GeV/$c$, qualitatively described by PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC due to a rising contribution from feed-down of heavier particles to the ${\pi^{0}}$ spectrum.

Neutral pion and $\eta$ meson production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV

The first measurements of the invariant differential cross sections of inclusive $\pi^0$ and $\eta$ meson production at mid-rapidity in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV are reported. The $\pi^0$ measurement covers the ranges $0.4<p_T<7$ GeV/$c$ and $0.3<p_T<25$ GeV/$c$ for these two energies, respectively. The production of $\eta$ mesons was measured at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV in the range $0.4<p_T<15$ GeV/$c$. Next-to-Leading Order perturbative QCD calculations, which are consistent with the $\pi^0$ spectrum at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV, overestimate those of $\pi^0$ and $\eta$ mesons at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, but agree with the measured $\eta/\pi^0$ ratio at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV.

Inclusive cross sections for Ξ- hyperon production in high-energy Σ-, π- and neutron induced interactions were measured by the experiment WA89 at CERN. Secondary Σ- and π- beams with average momenta of 345 GeV/c and a neutron beam of 260 GeV/c were produced by primary protons of 450 GeV/c from the CERN SPS. The influence of the target mass on the Ξ- cross section is explored by comparing reactions on copper and carbon nuclei. Both single and double differential cross sections are presented as a function of the transverse momentum and the Feynman variable xF. A strong leading effect for Σ- produced by Σ- is observed.

Inspire Record 399938 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28766

The single spin asymmetry for inclusive direct-photon production has been measured using a polarized proton beam of 200 GeV/c with an unpolarized proton target at −0.15 < xf < 0.15 and 2.5 < pt < 3.1 GeV/c at Fermilab. The data on the cross section for pp → γX at 2.5 < pt < 3.8 GeV/c are also provided. The measurement was done using lead-glass calorimeters and photon detectors which surrounded the fiducial area of the calorimeters. Background rejection has been done using these surrounding photon detectors. The cross section obtained is consistent with the results of previous measurements assuming a nuclear dependence of A 1.0 . The single spin asymmetry, A N , for the direct-photon production is consistent with zero within experimental uncertainty.

Single spin asymmetries and invariant cross-sections of the high transverse momentum inclusive pi0 production in 200-GeV/c p p and anti-p p interactions

The π0 inclusive and semi-inclusive, single-spin asymmetries have been measured using transversely polarized, 200-GeV/c proton and antiproton beams colliding with an unpolarized hydrogen target. The measured asymmetries are consistent with zero within the experimental uncertainties for the kinematic region -0.15<xF<+0.15 and 1<pT<4.5 GeV/c. Improvements in the data analysis showed that our earlier large asymmetries at pT≳3 GeV/c were not correct. These data indicate that PQCD expectations seem confirmed and the higher-twist contribution to the single-spin asymmetry in π0 production at xF=0 is not large. Additional evidence for such a conclusion comes from the measurement of a semi-inclusive π0 asymmetry, where associated charged particles are detected opposite to the π0 azimuthal direction. This experiment also provides high-statistics data on the inclusive π0 cross sections for pp and p¯p collisions at √s≊19.4 GeV. © 1996 The American Physical Society.

Inclusive $K^*$+ (890), $K^*$+ (1430) and $\bar{K}^*$ (890) Production in $K^+ p$ Interactions at 32-{GeV}/$c$

We present final results on inclusive production ofK*+(890),K*+(1430) andK*−(890) in\(\bar K^ +p\) interactions at 32 GeV/c, based on a statistics of ∼27 events/μb. Total cross sections,pT-andx-dependence of inclusive distributions are compared with experiments at other energies and with the Lund fragmentation model. Spin density matrix elements of theK*+(890) are also discussed. The results suggest that “recombination” of both initial state valence quarks\(\bar s\) andu of theK+ intoK*+(890), responsible in the Lund model for ∼45% of theK*+(890) cross section, is strongly suppressed.
