Hadron Production at Transverse Momenta From 0.5-{GeV} Up to 2.2-{GeV}/c in Proton Proton Collisions at 70-{GeV}

The cross sections for π ± , K ± , p, and p production in pp collisions have been measured at transverse momenta from 0.48 up to 2.21 GeV/ c at 70 GeV. The data are compared with results obtained at lower and higher proton energies and also with the quantum chromodynamics parton model (QPM) calculations. Common behaviour of the cross sections of the form g(p ⊥ )⨍(x ⊥ ) in the energy range above 200 GeV does not take place at lower energies. Qualitatively QPM fits the data and the best agreement is for π + / π − and K + / π + ratios.

PAIR PRODUCTION OF PIONS WITH SYMMETRIC MOMENTA IN THE RANGE 0.5-GeV/c <= P(T) <= 2.0-GeV/c in 70-GeV p p COLLISIONS

The invariant cross-section slope of the pp→ π + π − +X process as a function of p T is found to have a break near 1 GeV/ c . Fitting the cross section by a sum of two exponents gives the values of powers (12.3±0.9)(GeV/ c ) −1 and (8.7±0.6)(GeV/ c ) −1 . The experimental points at p T ⩾1 GeV/ c are significantly higher than predictions based on hard scattering models such as QCD and CIM.

Production of Charged Hadron Pairs With Large Symmetric Transverse Momenta in $p p$ Collisions at 70-{GeV}

We measured the cross sections of hadron pair production (π, K, p) with symmetric momenta produced back-to-back in the c.m.s. in pp collisions in the range 0.45 ⩽ P T ⩽ 1.99 GeV/ c . Particle correlations showing dependence on quantum numbers and transverse momentum are presented. The data are discussed in the framework of parton models.

Measurement of D* Mesons in Jets from p+p Collisions at sqrt{s} = 200 GeV

We report the measurement of charged $D^*$ mesons in inclusive jets produced in proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV with the STAR experiment at RHIC. For $D^{*}$ mesons with fractional momenta $0.2 < z < 0.5$ in inclusive jets with 11.5 GeV mean transverse energy, the production rate is found to be $N(D^{*+}+D^{*-})/N(\mathrm{jet}) = 0.015 \pm 0.008 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.007 (\mathrm{sys})$. This rate is consistent with perturbative QCD evaluation of gluon splitting into a pair of charm quarks and subsequent hadronization.

D*+-/jet azimuthal correlations. Delta Phi represents the difference in azimuthal angle between D*+- (of 2<Pt<10 GeV/c) and the jet's (of 8<Pt<20 GeV/c) axis.

Production rate of D*+- mesons with fractional longitudinal momenta 0.2<z<0.5 (z = Pl(D*+-)/Ejet, Pl is the momentum projection on the jet axis and Ejet is the total jet energy) in inclusive jets of 11.5 Gev mean transverse energy.
