This paper reports on the charged K / π production ratios and on the shape of the p T distributions of π fluxes measured by the SPY/NA56 experiment for 450 GeV/c proton interactions on beryllium targets. The present data cover a secondary momentum range from 7 GeV/c to 135 GeV/c in the forward direction and with p T values up to 600 MeV/c. An experimental accuracy of about 3% has been achieved. These results will reduce the uncertainty on the estimation of the ν e component of neutrino beams.

Measurement of the t anti-t production cross-section in p anti-p collisions at S**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

Phys.Rev.Lett. 80 (1998) 2773-2778, 1998.
Inspire Record 449604 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42178

We present a measurement of the t-tbar cross section in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 109 pb-1 collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The measurement uses t-tbar decays into final states which contain one or two high transverse momentum leptons and multiple jets, and final states which contain only jets. Using acceptances appropriate for a top quark mass of 175 GeV/c^2, we find sigma(t-tbar)=7.6 (+1.8 -1.5) pb .

Phys.Rev.Lett. 80 (1998) 2779-2784, 1998.
Inspire Record 449926 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42173

We present an analysis of dilepton events originating from top-antitop production in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 109+-7 pb^{-1}. We observe 9 candidate events, with an estimated background of 2.4+-0.5 events. We determine the mass of the top quark to be M_top = 161+-17(stat.)+-10(syst.) GeV/c^2. In addition we measure a top-antitop production cross section of 8.2+4.4-3.4 pb (where M_top = 175 GeV/c^2 has been assumed for the acceptance estimate).

Search for supersymmetry in the photon(s) plus missing energy channels at s**(1/2) = 161-GeV and 172-GeV.

Phys.Lett.B 420 (1998) 127-139, 1998.
Inspire Record 449077 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47381

Searches for supersymmetric particles in channels with one or more photons and missing energy have been performed with data collected by the ALEPH detector at LEP. The data consist of 11.1 pb-1 at $\sqrt{s} = 161 GeV$, 1.1 pb-1 at 170 GeV and 9.5 pb-1 at 172 GeV. The e+e- -> nunu+photon cross section is measured. The data are in good agreement with predictions based on the Standard Model, and are used to set upper limits on the cross sections for anomalous photon production. These limits are compared to two different SUSY models and used to set limits on the neutralino mass. A limit of 71 GeV/c^2 at 95% C.L. is set on the mass of the lightest neutralino ($\tau_{\chi_{1}^{0}} \leq $ 3 ns) for the gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking and LNZ models.

Measurement of the average lifetime of b hadrons in Z decays

Phys.Lett.B 416 (1998) 220-232, 1998.
Inspire Record 449593 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47380

We present a measurement of the average b-hadron lifetime τ b at the e + e − collider LEP. Using hadronic Z decays collected in the period from 1991 to 1994, two independent analyses have been performed. In the first one, the b-decay position is reconstructed as a secondary vertex of hadronic b-decay particles. The second analysis is an updated measurement of τ b using the impact parameter of leptons with high momentum and high transverse momentum. The combined result is τ b =[1549±9 (stat) ±15 (syst)] fs . In addition, we measure the average charged b-decay multiplicity 〈 n b 〉 and the normalized average b-energy 〈 x E 〉 b at LEP to be 〈n b 〉=4.90±0.04 (stat)±0.11 (syst), 〈x E 〉 b =0.709±0.004 (stat+syst).

The paper describes experiments with the SND detector at VEPP-2M collider, carried out during the period from October 1995 until June 1997. The total integrated luminosity of 6.4 pb^{-1} was collected in the energy range 2E=0.4-1.4 GeV (MHAD97 experiment), corresponding to 4*10^5 mu^+ mu^- pairs produced. Preliminary results of the 1996 phi-meson experiment (FI96) are presented. The total number of phi-mesons produced is 4*10^6. New data on rare decays of phi and eta (550) mesons, in particular B(phi -> eta gamma) = (1.30+-0.06+-0.07)%, B(phi -> pi^0 pi^0 gamma) = (1.1+-0.2)*10^{-4}, (M_{pi^0 pi^0} > 800 MeV), B(phi -> f^0 gamma) = (4.7+-1.0)*10^{-4}, B(phi -> eta pi^0 gamma) = (1.3+-0.5)*10^{-4}, B(phi -> eta' gamma) < 1.7*10^{-4}, B(phi -> 2 pi^0 ) < 6*10^{-4} were obtained.

Study of vector mesons in dimuon production in a large kinematic region in p W and S W interactions at 200-GeV/c/nucleon.

Inspire Record 448978 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47370

Results are presented on p + ω,ø and J/ψ production in p-W and 32S-W interactions at 200GeV/c/nucleon measured via the dimuon decay in a large kinematic region. The data are normalized to the charged particle multiplicity in the same rapidity interval. They have been collected using the HELIOS/3 muon spectrometer at the CERN SPS. The ratio Bσø/ (Bσρ + Bσω), where B is the relevant resonance µµ branching fraction, increases between proton and sulphur projectiles, and is somewhat enhanced going from peripheral to central S-W interactions. This results from an increase in the number of produced ø’s per charged particle. The ratio is measured in different intervals of pt and rapidity. It is not clearly dependent on pt, but is larger at higher rapidities. J/Ψ production, likewise normalized to charged multiplicity, is significantly lower in S-W compared to p-W interactions.

Search for exotic strange quark matter in high energy nuclear reactions.

The E864 collaboration Armstrong, T.A. ; Barish, K.N. ; Bennett, S.J. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 625 (1997) 494-512, 1997.
Inspire Record 446705 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36251

We report on a search for metastable positively and negatively charged states of strange quark matter in Au+Pb reactions at 11.6 A GeV/c in experiment E864. We have sampled approximately six billion 10% most central Au+Pb interactions and have observed no strangelet states (baryon number A < 100 droplets of strange quark matter). We thus set upper limits on the production of these exotic states at the level of 1-6 x 10^{-8} per central collision. These limits are the best and most model independent for this colliding system. We discuss the implications of our results on strangelet production mechanisms, and also on the stability question of strange quark matter.

Dijet production by color-singlet exchange at the Fermilab Tevatron

We report a new measurement of dijet production by color-singlet exchange in pp¯ collisions at s=1.8TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. In a sample of events with two jets of transverse energy ETjet>20GeV, pseudorapidity in the range 1.8<|ηjet|<3.5, and η1η2<0, we find that a fraction R=[1.13±0.12(stat)±0.11(syst)]% has a pseudorapidity gap within |η|<1 between the jets that can be attributed to color-singlet exchnage. The fraction R shows no significant dependence on ETjet or on the pseudorapidity separation between the jets.
