Inclusive energy spectra of protons, deuterons, and tritons were measured with a telescope of silicon and germanium detectors with a detection range for proton energies up to 200 MeV. Fifteen sets of data were taken using projectiles ranging from protons to Ar40 on targets from Al27 to U238 at bombarding energies from 240 MeV/nucleon to 2.1 GeV/nucleon. Particular attention was paid to the absolute normalization of the cross sections. For three previously reported reactions, He fragment cross sections have been corrected and are presented. To facilitate a comparison with theory the sum of nucleonic charges emitted as protons plus composite particles was estimated and is presented as a function of fragment energy per nucleon in the interval from 15 to 200 MeV/nucleon. For low-energy fragments at forward angles the protons account for only 25% of the nucleonic charges. The equal mass Ar40 plus Ca systems were examined in the center of mass. Here at 0.4 GeV/nucleon Ar40 plus Ca the proton spectra appear to be nearly isotropic in the center of mass over the region measured. Comparisons of some data with firestreak, cascade, and fluid dynamics models indicate a failure of the first and a fair agreement with the latter two. In addition, associated fast charged particle multiplicities (where the particles had energies larger than 25 MeV/nucleon) and azimuthal correlations were measured with an 80 counter array of plastic scintillators. It was found that the associated multiplicities were a smooth function of the total kinetic energy of the projectile. The inclusive production of Ξ − and Ξ ∗0 (1530) is investigated in K − p interactions at 10 and 16 GeV/ c . The inclusive production cross sections are 172 ± 20 μ b and 135 ± 15 μ b for the Ξ − , and 43 ± 7 μ b and 32 ± 5 μ b for the Ξ ∗0 (1530) at 10 and 16 GeV /c , respectively. In the beam momentum range up to 16 GeV/ c , the energy dependence of the cross section for Ξ − production in K − p interactions is similar to Σ − production in π − p interactions. It is, instead, different from the energy behaviour of Σ − production cross sections observed in π − p interactions. The Ξ − and Ξ ∗0 (1530) are both produced more in the forward ( x > 0) than in the backward hemisphere, indicating the presence of hyperon-exchange processes.

We report the results of an experiment made at the CERN ISR to investigate the possible diret production of single photons in pp collisions at √ s = 53.2 GeV at 90° and in the p t interval 2.3 to 5.7 GeV/ c . The value of the ratio R = n γ / n π 0 is compatible with zero for low p t ⪅ 3 GeV/ c but, in spite of the large error, shows a trend to increase for larger p t .

Antilambda production is studied inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c. Both total and differential cross sections are presented. The inclusive\(\bar \Lambda \) production cross section amounts to 109±7 μb. A remarkable energy dependence is observed, σ(\(\bar \Lambda \)) increasing by a factor of four between 14.3 and 32 GeV/c. Thep⊥2 distribution exhibits an exponential fall-off with a slope of 3.3±0.2 (GeV/c)−2. Most of the\(\bar \Lambda \)'s are emitted in the forward hemisphere. The invariantx distribution increases between 14.3 and 32 GeV/c. Data are presented for\(\bar \Lambda \) production inK-p→Λ\(\bar \Lambda \)+XK-p→\(\bar \Lambda \)Kn+X, andK-p→\(\bar \Lambda \)p+X.

This paper summarizes the measurements one+e− annihilation performed by the DASP Collaboration in the energy range between 3.1 and 5.2 GeV. The following topics are covered: total cross section, production and two body decays of the narrow resonances, radiative decays of theJ/ψ and ψ′ resonances and evidence for theX(2.82), ψ′ cascade decays, inclusive η production and evidence for theF meson, semileptonic decays of charmed mesons and properties of the heavy lepton.
THESE DATA ON R WERE PUBLISHED IN R. BRANDELIK ET AL., PL 76B, 361 (1978), THE RECORD OF WHICH HAS TABULATED CROSS SECTIONS WITH AND WITHOUT THE TAU HEAVY LEPTON CONTRIBUTION.

We have studied inclusiveΔ++ (1232),∑+ (1385), and∑− (1385) baryon resonance production inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The inclusive and topological cross sections are estimated and compared with published results at lower energies. No energy variation of the cross section is observed forΔ++ (1232) and only a slight decrease is seen in case of∑± (1385). The production properties are investigated through longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions. TheΔ++ (1232) is dominantly produced in the target fragmentation region. The∑+ (1385) is produced both in the target fragmentation region and in the central region, while the∑− (1385) is predominantly produced in the central region. About 20% of the final state protons are produced via aΔ++ (1232) decay and about 25% of the Λ produced come from the decay of∑+ (1385) and∑− (1385).

We have studied inclusive KS0, Λ, and Λ¯ production and strange-resonance production in the reactions pp→(KS0, Λ, or Λ¯)+π±+anything at 405 GeV/c. The observed cross sections are 7.43 ± 0.45 mb for KS0, 4.01 ± 0.35 mb for Λ, and 0.63 ± 0.12 mb for Λ¯. From the analyses of the effective-mass distributions for the (KS0π±), (Λπ±), and (Λ¯π±) systems, the resonance production cross sections are determined as 4.1 ± 1.0 mb for K*+(890), 3.6 ± 1.0 mb for K*−(890), 3.4 ± 1.7 mb for K*±(1420), 0.67 ± 0.12 mb for Σ+(1385), 0.45 ± 0.09 mb for Σ−(1385), and 0.25 ± 0.08 mb for Σ¯±(1385). The inclusive total and differential cross sections are discussed in comparison with data at lower energies. The direct production cross sections for pseudoscalar, vector, and tensor K mesons are estimated to be 2.3 ± 1.2, 3.4 ± 1.0, and 1.7 ± 0.8 mb, respectively. Direct pseudoscalar-K-meson production accounts for less than one-third of the total inclusive kaon production. Evidence of vector-meson dominance in inclusive meson production at high energy is indicated.

A charge hyperon beam has been brought into operation at the CERN SPS. Particles are identified by a DISC Čerenkov counter, and decay products are analysed by a magnetic spectrometer. Cross sections for the inclusive production of π + , K + , p , Σ + , Σ − , ζ − , d, and π − , K − , p , Σ + , Σ − , ζ − , ω − , d in the forward direction have been measured at laboratory momenta between 70 and 130 GeV/ c . This range of momenta corresponds to 0.35 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.66 for an incident proton momentum of 200 GeV/ c . Antihyperon ( Σ − , ζ − , Σ + ) and Σ + and ω − fluxes have been measured for the first time in a hyperon beam.

Inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections for gp0 production in 100, 200, and 360 GeV/c π−p interactions are presented. Differential cross sections for ρ0 production as functions of c.m. rapidity and transverse momentum are compared with the corresponding differential cross sections for pion production. Effects of various methods of estimating background on the values obtained for ρ0 production cross sections are discussed. About 10% of the final-state charged pions appear to come from ρ0 decay. Thus, while ρ0 production and decay is a significant source of final-state pions, other sources must contribute the majority of the produced pions.
