We have studied high transverse momentum J/ψ production in p p interactions at s =630 GeV . The measured cross section times branching fraction for J/ψ→μ + μ − production with p T ⩾5 GeV / c and | y |<2.0 is 7.5±0.7±1.2 nb . The event topology is used to establish that there is J/ψ production from both the direct production of c c bound states and the decay of B hadrons. The inferred yield of J/ψ from beauty decays is compatible with our estimates of beauty production in other channels.

Measurement of $J/\psi$ and $\psi^\prime$ Real Photoproduction on $^{6}$Li at a Mean Energy of 90-{GeV}

The NA14 collaboration Barate, R. ; Bareyre, P. ; Bloch, D. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 33 (1987) 505, 1987.
Inspire Record 235579 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15814

Inelastic and elasticJ/ψ (3097) photoproduction on Li6 are measured at a mean γ energy of 90 GeV in an open spectrometer. TheJ/ψ are identified by their decays intoμ+μ− ore+e−. A signal of ψ′(3685) intoμ+μ− andJ/ψπ+π− is also seen. The inelastic cross-section withZ=Eψ/Eγ<0.9 is compared in shape and magnitude with the colour singlet model of photon-gluon fusion.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 56 (1986) 107, 1986.
Inspire Record 217856 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20254

Evidence is presented for a narrow state, called ξ, in the decay modes J/ψ→γξ, ξ→K+K−, and ξ→KS0KS0. In the K+K− mode, the ξ has a mass of 2.230±0.006±0.014 GeV/c2, a width of Γ=0.026−0.016+0.020± 0.017 GeV/c2, a product branching ratio of (4.2−1.4+1.7±0.8)×10 −5, and a statistical significance of ∼4.5 standard deviations. In the KS0KS0 mode, it has a mass of 2.232±0.007±0.007 GeV/c2, a width of Γ=0.018−0.015+0.023± 0.010 GeV/c2, a product branching ratio of (3.1−1.3+1.6±0.7)×10 −5, and a statistical significance of ∼3.6 standard deviations. Limits on ξ decay to other final states are presented.

A MEASUREMENT OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SINGLE NUCLEON CROSS-SECTIONS FOR j / psi MUOPRODUCTION IN IRON AND IN H-2, D-2 TARGETS

The European Muon collaboration Aubert, J.J. ; Bassompierre, G. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 152 (1985) 433-438, 1985.
Inspire Record 207459 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30432

The cross sections for J ψ production have been measured in interactions of 280 GeV μ + on hydrogen and deuterium (H, D) and also in interactions of 250 GeV μ + on iron. The single-nucleon cross sections in iron are found to be larger than those in H, D. The mean ratio of the iron to H, D photoproduction cross sections in the range 60 < v < 200 GeV is 1.45 ±0.12 (statistical) ±0.22 (systematic error). Within the framework of the photon-gluon fusion model, this indicates that the gluon density per nucleon is ∼45% larger in iron than in H, D in the range 0.026 < x < 0.085, on a mass scale Q 2 eff ∼M 2 J ψ .

Inelastic and Elastic Photoproduction of J/$\psi$ (3097)

Denby, Bruce H. ; Bharadwaj, V.K. ; Summers, D.J. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 52 (1984) 795-798, 1984.
Inspire Record 195929 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20438

Inelastic and elastic $J/\psi$ photoproduction on hydrogen are investigated at a mean energy of 105 GeV. The inelastic cross section with $E_{\psi} / E_{\gamma}$ < 0.9 is significantly lower than the corresponding result for muoproduction on iron targets, but is consistent with a second-order perturbative QCD calculation.

Experimental J/psi Hadronic Production from 150-GeV/c to 280-GeV/c

The NA3 collaboration Badier, J. ; Boucrot, J. ; Bourotte, J. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 20 (1983) 101, 1983.
Inspire Record 191240 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.2212

A detailed study ofJ/ψ hadronic production has been performed in a high statistics experiment (more than 1.5 106J/ψ observed in their dimuon decay mode). Data have been taken with incident π±,K±,p±, on hydrogen and platinum targets, at 150, 200 and 280 GeV/c. We find from the observed nuclear dependance of the cross sections, that about 18% of theJ/ψ are produced diffractively. Using known structure functions of the quarks in the nucleon and in the pion, we derive estimations for the gluon structure functions.

Limits on $J/\psi$ and $\Upsilon$ Production in $e^+ e^-$ Interactions at $\sqrt{s}=29$-{GeV}

Matteuzzi, C. ; Abrams, G.S. ; Amidei, D. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 129 (1983) 141-144, 1983.
Inspire Record 189580 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30662

A search has been made for the inclusive production of J ψ (3.1) and ϒ (9.4) mesons in e + e − interactions at 29 GeV, via their decay into two leptons. No signal is observed in the J ψ region, nor in the ϒ region. The limits on the cross sections are σ ( e + e − → ψX ) < 4.4 × 10 −36 cm 2 , and σ ( e + e − → ϒX ) < 4.7 × 10 −36 cm 2 . The same data yield limits on the branching ratios for the b quark BR ( b → ψX ) < 4.9% and BR ( b → ℓ + ℓ − X ) < 0.8%.

Measurements of the energy and t dependence of diffractive Jψ photoproduction are presented. A significant rise in the cross section over the energy range 60-300 GeV is observed. It is found that (30±4)% of the events are inelastic.

Polarization of Muoproduced J/psi (3100)

Phys.Rev.Lett. 45 (1980) 2092, 1980.

The polarization and Q2 dependence of muoproduced ψ→μ+μ− have been analyzed in a magnetized-steel calorimeter at Fermilab. The reaction γVN→ψN is found to be helicity conserving. Even after allowance for possible Q2 dependence of the decay angular distribution, the ψ muoproduction cross section falls more steeply in Q2 than predicted by ψ dominance.

We have performed in the NA3 experiment the study of high mass dimuon production by a hadronic unseparated beam on hydrogen and platinum targets. The comparison of the production cross‐section for proton and antiproton together with the differential cross‐section dσ/dx allows us to compare the data with a production mechanism involving quark‐antiquark and gluon‐gluon interactions. The cosΘ* distribution of the same J/ψ data have also been analysed and results will be presented. Finally we have observed T production from 150 GeV/c incident pions.
