The process e + e − →e + e − μ + μ − has been studied in single-tag and double-tag configurations using the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN. The data correspond to the integrated luminosity of 45.3pb − at center-of-mass energies ranging from 52 to 61.4 GeV. The observed events in both configurations have shown a good agreement with QED predictions in order α 4 . Although the AMY group reported an excess of e + e − →e + e − μ + μ − events in double-tag mode at low muon invariant mass region less than 1.0 GeV/c 2 , we did not observed such excess in our data.

An estimate of the temperature of protons andπ− mesons in central He−Li, He−C, C−C, C−Ne, C−Cu, C−Pb, O−Pb, Mg−Mg interactions is presented. The results indicate an increase of the proton temperature with increasing mass numbers of projectile and target nuclei (Ap,AT) fromTp=(118±3) MeV for He−Li toTp=(141±2) MeV for C−Pb. The temperature ofπ− mesons does not depend onAP,AT andTπ≃95 MeV. A satisfactory fit forπ− mesons in C−Cu, C−Pb, O−Pb, Mg−Mg collisions can be achieved by using a form involving two temperatures,T1 andT2. The relative yield of the high temperature component (T2) is ≅24% for C−Cu, C−Pb, and Mg−Mg interactions. The observed results forTP in C−Ne, C−Cu and C−Pb collisions are consistent with the prediction of the thermodynamic hagedorn model.
for C-CU and C-PB YRAP=0.3-1.7.
THE D(N)/D(PT) distribution has been fitted by the form: PT*ET*K1(SLOPE*ET), where K1 is Mac-Donaldis function. for C-CU and C-PB YRAP=0.3-1.7.

The process γγ→π+π− was measured using the detector MD-1 at VEPP-4. The two-photon reactionse+e−, μ+ μ− and π+ π− pair production were separated using scintillation counters, Cherenkov counters and shower-range chambers. A radiation widthГγγ(f2(1270))=3.1±0.35±0.35 keV was obtained.

Product of charged kaons in central S + S and O + Au collisions at 200 GeV/nucleon has been studied in the NA 35 Streamer Chamber experiment. Mean multiplicities and transverse mass distributions were obtained. They were compared with nucleon-nucleon data and with model predictions.

We report on an improved measurement of the value of the strong coupling constant σ s at the Z 0 peak, using the asymmetry of the energy-energy correlation function. The analysis, based on second-order perturbation theory and a data sample of about 145000 multihadronic Z 0 decays, yields α s ( M z 0 = 0.118±0.001(stat.)±0.003(exp.syst.) −0.004 +0.0009 (theor. syst.), where the theoretical systematic error accounts for uncertainties due to hadronization, the choice of the renormalization scale and unknown higher-order terms. We adjust the parameters of a second-order matrix element Monte Carlo followed by string hadronization to best describe the energy correlation and other hadronic Z 0 decay data. The α s result obtained from this second-order Monte Carlo is found to be unreliable if values of the renormalization scale smaller than about 0.15 E cm are used in the generator.
Value of LAMBDA(MSBAR) and ALPHA_S.. The first systematic error is experimental, the second is from theory.

Multi-strange baryon and anti-baryon production is expected to be a useful probe in the search for Quark-Gluon Plasma formation. We present the transverse mass distributions of negative particles, K o s, Λs, Λ s, and Ξ − s produced in sulphurtungsten interactions at 200 GeV/c per nucleon and give the corrected ratios Λ Λ, Ξ − Λ and Ξ − /Λ . We note that our ratio Ξ − / Λ appears large in comparison to that from p p interactions.

Longitudinal and transverse momentum spectra of final state hadrons produced in deep-inelastic muon-deuterium scattering at incident muon energy of 490 GeV have been measured up to a hadronic center of mass energy of 30 GeV. The longitudinal distributions agree well with data from earlier muon-nucleon scattering experiments; these distributions tend to increase in steepness as the center of mass energy increases. Comparisons with e + e − data at comparable center of mass energies indicate slight differences. The transverse momentum distributions show an increase in mean p T 2 with an increase in the center of mass energy.

A study of events containing at least four high transverse momentum jets and a search for double parton scattering (DPS) have been performed using data collected with the UA2 detector at the CERN p p Collider (√ s =630 GeV). The results are in good agreement with leading order QCD calculations. A value of σ DPS <0.82 nb at 95% confidence level (CL) is obtained for the DPS cross section.

Using the ARGUS detector at thee+e− storage ring DORIS II at DESY, we have measured the inclusive production ofD0,D+ andD*(2010)+ mesons inB decays and in nonresonante+e− annihilation around 10.6 GeV. The inclusive branching ratios forB decays toD0,D+ andD*+ mesons are found to be (52.2±8.2±3.5)%, (27.2±6.3±3.5)% and (34.8±6.0±3.5)% respectively. Thus,D0 andD+ production account for about 70% of the charm produced inB decays, neglectingb→u contributions to the total width. The production cross sections and momentum spectra for continuume+e− annihilation are also presented.
