We have measured the proton and deuteron spin structure functions g_1^p and g_1^d in the region of the nucleon resonances for W^2 < 5 GeV^2 and $Q^2\simeq 0.5$ and $Q^2\simeq 1.2$ GeV^2 by inelastically scattering 9.7 GeV polarized electrons off polarized $^{15}NH_3$ and $^{15}ND_3$ targets. We observe significant structure in g_1^p in the resonance region. We have used the present results, together with the deep-inelastic data at higher W^2, to extract $\Gamma(Q^2)\equiv\int_0^1 g_1(x,Q^2) dx$. This is the first information on the low-Q^2 evolution of Gamma toward the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn limit at Q^2 = 0.

Search for anomalous W W and W Z production in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

We present results from a search for anomalous WW and WZ production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. We used ppbar->evjjX events observed during the 1992-1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 13.7 +- 0.7 pb^-1. A fit to the transverse momentum spectrum of the W boson yields direct limits on the CP-conserving anomalous WWgamma and WWZ coupling parameters of -0.9 < delta kappa < 1.1 (with lambda = 0) and -0.6 < lambda < 0.7 (with delta kappa = 0) at the 95% confidence level, for a form factor scale Lambda = 1.5 TeV, assuming that the WWgamma and WWZ coupling parameters are equal.

Measurements of the Q**2 dependence of the proton and deuteron spin structure functions g1(p) and g1(d)

The ratio g1/F1 has been measured over the range 0.03<x<0.6 and 0.3<Q2<10 (GeV/c)2 using deep-inelastic scattering of polarized electrons from polarized protons and deuterons. We find g1/F1 to be consistent with no Q2-dependence at fixed x in the deep-inelastic region Q~2>1 (GeV/c)2. A trend is observed for g1/F1 to decrease at lower Q2. Fits to world data with and without a possible Q2-dependence in g1/F1 are in agreement with the Bjorken sum rule, but Delta_q is substantially less than the quark-parton model expectation.

The spin structure function of the neutron g1n has been determined over the range 0.03<x<0.6 at an average Q2 of 2 (GeV/c)2 by measuring the asymmetry in deep inelastic scattering of polarized electrons from a polarized He3 target at energies between 19 and 26 GeV. The integral of the neutron spin structure function is found to be F01g1n(x)dx=-0.022±0.011. Earlier reported proton results together with the Bjorken sum rule predict F01g1n(x)dx=-0.059±0.019.

Mass identified particle production in proton anti-proton collisions at s**(1/2) = 300-GeV, 540-GeV, 1000-GeV, and 1800-GeV

The yields and average transverse momenta of pions, kaons, and antiprotons produced at the Fermilab p¯p collider at s=300, 540, 1000, and 1800 GeV are presented and compared with data from the energies reached at the CERN collider. We also present data on the dependence of average transverse momentum 〈pt〉 and particle ratios as a function of charged particle density dNcdη; data for particle densities as high as six times the average value, corresponding to a Bjorken energy density 6 GeV/fm3, are reported. These data are relevant to the search for quark-gluon phase of QCD.

Precise Determination of Sin**2-$\theta^-$w From Measurements of the Differential Cross-sections for $\nu_\mu p \to \nu_\mu p$ and $\bar{\nu}_\mu p \to \bar{\nu}_\mu p$

This paper describes measurements of the semileptonic weak-neutral-current reactions νpμ→νpμ and ν¯pμ→ν¯pμ which yield the absolute differential cross sections dσ(νpμ)dQ2 and dσ(ν¯pμ)dQ2. The weak-neutral-current parameter, sin2θW, is determined to be sin2θW=0.220±0.016(stat.)(syst.)−0.031+0.023.

DIRECT OBSERVATION OF THE DECAY h0 (2040) ---> anti-p p

Phys.Rev.D 26 (1982) 1769, 1982.
Inspire Record 12398 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23947

We have observed the decay h0(2040)→p¯p in the reaction π+n→p¯pp at 10 GeV/c detected in the large-aperture solenoid spectrometer at SLAC. We have measured the product of the cross section and branching ratio, σ(π+n→h0(2040)p)B(h0(2040)→p¯p), to be 0.84±0.17 μb. The moments of the angular distribution are consistent with the quantum numbers of the h0 meson being JPC=4++ and IG=0+.

STUDY OF THE OKUBO-ZWEIG-IIZUKA RULE VIOLATING REACTIONS PI+ N ---> PHI P AND PI+ P ---> PHI DELTA++ AT 10-GEV/C

We have measured the cross sections for the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka-rule-violating reactions π+n→φp and π+p→φΔ++ at 10 GeV/c using the large-aperture-solenoid spectrometer at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We measure the total cross sections for these two reactions to be 179±72 nb for the φp reaction and 172±75 nb for the φΔ++ reaction. Both of these cross sections are consistent with the hypothesis of the φ being produced solely by its nonstrange-quark component as determined from the octet-singlet mixing angle resulting from application of the Gell-Mann—Okubo mass formula to the vector-meson nonet. These data are thus inconsistent with an ideally mixed φ meson.

Elastic Scattering of pi-, K-, and anti-p from Hydrogen at 8-GeV/c and 16-GeV/c

In a single-arm spectrometer experiment, high-precision measurements of dσdt for π−p, K−p, and p¯p elastic scattering have been made at 8 and 16 GeV/c. The π−p data show rich structure at 8 GeV/c, indicative of strong non-Pomeron contributions, while the 16-GeV/c data are much smoother. For −t≳1 (GeV/c)2 there is a strong s dependence while there is very little for −t<1 (GeV/c)2. For p¯p scattering the forward region is smoothly diffractive for −t<0.4 (GeV/c)2 and shows antishrinkage. The exponential slope parameter b is measured to be 12.36 ± 0.04 (GeV/c)−2 at 8 GeV/c and 11.40 ± 0.04 (GeV/c)−2 at 16 GeV/c. The structure near −t=0.6 (GeV/c)2 seen at lower energies is still obvious at 16 GeV/c. The K−p data show some structure at 8 GeV/c, but can be represented adequately by a quadratic exponential form. At 16 GeV/c the K−p angular distribution shows antishrinkage and lies above the 8-GeV/c cross section for 0.11<−t<0.8 (GeV/c)2.

MEASUREMENT OF THE ASYMMETRY PARAMETER IN THE PHOTOPRODUCTION OF phi MESONS

We have measured the asymmetry parameter Σ=(σ∥−σ⊥)(σ∥+σ⊥) for the photoproduction of ϕ mesons with photons polarized parallel and perpendicular to the plane of decay for the reaction γp→ϕp→K+K−p. We find Σ=0.985±0.12 at a photon energy of 8.14 GeV and |t| of 0.2 (GeVc)2, consistent with pure diffraction production, or pure naturalparity Regge exchange.
