Lambda-Proton Elastic Scattering from 1-GeV/c to 17-GeV/c

The Λ-proton elastic scattering cross section has been measured between 1 and 17 GeV/c in a bubble chamber experiment. These are the first measurements of the elastic cross section for pΛ>5 GeV/c. The Λ's were produced by 25-GeV/c proton interactions in a platinum target. The cross section falls from 22 to 4 mb over the region. No significant polarization is observed.

The exclusive production of proton-antiproton pairs in the collisions of two quasi-real photons had been studied using data taken at sqrt(s)_ee=183 GeV and 189 GeV with the OPAL detector at LEP. Results are presented for Ppbar invariant masses, W, in the range 2.15 W< <3.95 GeV. The cross-section measurements are compared with previous data and with recent analytic calculations based on the quark-diquark model.

Analysis of the q in k- d ---> k- pi- pi+ d and k- d ---> k- pi- pi+ n p(s) at 7.3 gev/c

Results from the study of reactions (1) K−d→K−π−π+d and (2) K−d→K−π−π+nps at 7.3 GeV/c are presented. The interactions are dominated by the production of K*(890), ρ(765), Q(1200−1450), and D*(2200) in (1) and Δ−(1236) in (2). Observation of ρ(765) and its possible source as a misidentified K*(890) is discussed. Evidence is observed of splitting of the Q into two resonances with masses and widths (in MeV) M1=1228±21, Γ1=111±33, M2=1414±15, and Γ2=89±24, L(1775) is observed in (1). An off-shell one-pion-exchange-model calculation is compared to (2). Cross sections and branching ratios of the Q resonances are estimated on the basis of the model.

MEASUREMENT AND PARTIAL WAVE ANALYSIS OF THE REACTION K- P ---> K0(S) PI+ PI- N AT 6-GEV/C

We have performed a partial-wave analysis of the reaction K−p→KS0π+π−n at 6 GeV/c. We present the results of the analysis of about 4500 events in the low-t region (|t′|<0.2 GeV2) for the dominant waves in the 1200-to-2000-MeV mass range. We observe the 2+ K*(1430) and clear signals for the 1+ Q2(1400) and the 3− K*(1800). We find a new 1− resonance at about 1500 MeV and have some evidence for another 1− resonance at 1800 MeV. We also present the results of a partial-wave analysis as a function of t in the 1430-MeV mass region.

We present differential and total cross sections for two reactions: π−p→K0Λ and π−p→K0Σ0. The incident pion momenta were 8, 10.7, and 15.7 GeVc. The results are based on an analysis of approximately 22 600 events of the two reactions where the π+ and π− from the decay of the KS0 were detected in the forward leg of the Double Vee Magnetic Spectrometer. The separation of Λ recoils from Σ0 recoils was accomplished by the missing-mass technique.

Measurement of the Backward Peaks in the Reactions pi- p --> K0 Lambda and pi- p --> K*0 (890) Lambda

We present the differential cross sections near u=0 for the reactions π−p→K0Λ and π−p→K*0(890)Λ at incident pion momenta of 8 and 10.7 GeV/c. The differential cross section for the first reaction follows the exponential dependence on u previously observed, while the second shows a dip in the backward direction.

The inclusive one- and two-jet production cross-sections are measured in collisions of quasi-real photons radiated from the LEP beams at e+e− centre-of-mass energies \(\sqrt{s}_{\rm ee}=130\) and 136 GeV using the OPAL detector at LEP. Hard jets are reconstructed using a cone jet finding algorithm. The differential jet cross-sections \({\rm d}\sigma /{\rm d}E_{T}^{\rm jet}\) are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. Transverse energy flows in jets are studied separately for direct and resolved two-photon events.

New high-statistics measurements of π + p elastic scattering differential cross sections are presented at 30 momentum points between 1.282 and 2.472 GeV/ c , covering most of the angular distribution outside the forward diffractive peak. These data show significant disagreements at some momenta with previous high-statistics experiments and with current partial wave analyses.
