We have measured the difference between the pp total cross-sections for parallel and anti-parallel longitudinal spin states at beam momenta of 3 and 6 GeV/ c . These results, combined with our previous measurements, at lower momenta, are useful in clarifying a striking structure appearing at around 1.5 GeV/ c . We have also measured for the first time, the spin-spin correlation parameter C LL ( t ) in pp elastic scattering at 6 GeV/ c . We observe evidence for an exchange with A 1 -like quantum-numbers.

Measurement of the Total Cross-Section Difference for p p Scattering in Longitudinal Spin States

Auer, I.P. ; Colton, E. ; Hill, D. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 67 (1977) 113-116, 1977.
Inspire Record 4411 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27581

We have measured the total cross-section difference for pp scattering in initial spin states parallel to the beam direction at beam momenta of 1.17, 1.47, 1.69, 1.97 and 2.49 GeV/ c . This measurement was done in a standard transmission experiment. A striking energy dependence is observed with a maximum difference of −16.9 mb at P lab = 1.47 GeV/ c .

Measurements of the Spin Rotation Parameter R in p p and pi+ p Elastic Scattering at 45-GeV/c

Phys.Lett.B 61 (1976) 107-109, 1976.
Inspire Record 113035 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27706

The spin rotation sf R in pp and π + p elastic scattering at 45 GeV/c has been measured at the Seppukhov accelarator, for z . sfnc ; t |; ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 (GeV/) 2 . The results are presented, together with previous R measurements at lower energies. The equality of the values for R in proton-proton and pion-proton scattering, within the experimental errors, is a test of factorization of the residues in the pomeron exchange.

On Measuring Spin Rotation Parameter r in pi- p and K- p Elastic Scattering at 40-GeV/c

Phys.Lett.B 57 (1975) 393-397, 1975.

The spin rotation parameter R has been measured for elastic π − p scattering at 40 GeV/ c , at four momentum transfers t ranging from −0.19 to −0.52 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The average value within this interval is R π − p = -0.200± 0.023. The resulting constraints on the πN scattering amplitudes are discussed. The experiments also yields an average value for K − p scattering, R K − p scattering, R K − p = -0.16±0.16.

PHOTOPRODUCTION OF pi0 WITH PLANE POLARIZED 3-Gev PHOTONS

Bellenger, D. ; Bordelon, R. ; Cohen, K. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 23 (1969) 540, 1969.
Inspire Record 55099 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21666

The cross section for photoproduction of π0 mesons was measured at a photon energy of 3 GeV and squared four-momentum transfer (t) of -0.1 to -1.2 (GeV/c)2 using plane-polarized photons. The asymmetry was found to be consistent with +1.0 for t values above -0.4 and below -1.1. For −0.4<~t<~−1.0 there is a dip in the asymmetry and at t=−0.6 it drops to 0.55 ± 0.15. This result precludes a simple Regge model with ω0 and B; a theoretical description requires Regge cuts or an ω′ exchange.

Measurement of polarization observables $\textbf{T}$, ${\textbf{P}}$, and ${\textbf{H}}$ in $\mathbf {\pi ^0}$ and $\mathbf {\eta }$ photoproduction off quasi-free nucleons

The target asymmetry T, recoil asymmetry P, and beam-target double polarization observable H were determined in exclusive $\pi ^0$ and $\eta $ photoproduction off quasi-free protons and, for the first time, off quasi-free neutrons. The experiment was performed at the electron stretcher accelerator ELSA in Bonn, Germany, with the Crystal Barrel/TAPS detector setup, using a linearly polarized photon beam and a transversely polarized deuterated butanol target. Effects from the Fermi motion of the nucleons within deuterium were removed by a full kinematic reconstruction of the final state invariant mass. A comparison of the data obtained on the proton and on the neutron provides new insight into the isospin structure of the electromagnetic excitation of the nucleon. Earlier measurements of polarization observables in the $\gamma p \rightarrow \pi ^0 p$ and $\gamma p \rightarrow \eta p$ reactions are confirmed. The data obtained on the neutron are of particular relevance for clarifying the origin of the narrow structure in the $\eta n$ system at $W = 1.68\ \textrm{GeV}$. A comparison with recent partial wave analyses favors the interpretation of this structure as arising from interference of the $S_{11}(1535)$ and $S_{11}(1650)$ resonances within the $S_{11}$-partial wave.
