This paper presents the first direct measurement of the $B$ meson differential cross section, $d\sigma/dp_T$, in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV using a sample of $19.3 \pm 0.7$ pb$~{-1}$ accumulated by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The cross section is measured in the central rapidity region $|y| < 1$ for $p_T(B) > 6.0$ GeV/$c$ by fully reconstructing the $B$ meson decays $B~{+}\rightarrow J/\psi K~{+}$ and $B~{0}\rightarrow J/\psi K~{*0}(892)$, where $J/\psi \rightarrow \mu~+\mu~-$ and $K~{*0} \rightarrow K~+ \pi~-$. A comparison is made to the theoretical QCD prediction calculated at next-to-leading order.

Production of K0 and Lambda in hadronic Z decays

Inspire Record 375060 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48239

Measurements of the inclusive cross-sections forK0 and Λ production in hadronic decays of the Z are presented together with measurements of two-particle correlations within pairs of Λ andK0. The results are compared with predictions from the hadronization models Jetset, based on string fragmentation, and Herwig, based on cluster decays. TheK0 spectrum is found to be harder than predicted by both models, while the Λ spectrum is softer than predicted. The correlation measurements are all reproduced well by Jetset, while Herwig misses some of the qualitative features and overestimates the size of the\(\Lambda \bar \Lambda \) correlation. Finally, the possibility of Bose-Einstein correlation in theKS0KS0 system is discussed.

Cross-sections for the production of high mass muon pairs from 800-GeV proton bombardment of H-2

Absolute cross sections as functions of kinematic variables are presented for the production of muon pairs from 800 GeV proton bombardment of H2. Drell-Yan (continuum) dimuons were recorded in the mass regions 4.5≤Mμ+μ−≤9 GeV and Mμ+μ−≥11 GeV, with an x-Feynman range -0.1≤xF≤0.75. This range corresponds to smaller masses and larger values of xF than previous 800 GeV Drell-Yan data. Cross sections for the Υ(1S) resonance are also given versus the transverse momentum and xF.

We measure the differential cross section with respect to Feynman-x (xF) and transverse momentum (PT) for charm meson production using targets of Be, Al, Cu, and W. In the range 0.1<xF<0.7, dσ/dxF is well fit by the form (1-xF)n with n=3.9±0.3. The difference between n values for D− and D+ is 1.1±0.7. However, we find an asymmetry of 0.18±0.06 favoring the production of D− compared to D+. In the lower PT range, <2 GeV, dσ/dPT2 is well fit by the form exp(-b×PT2) with b=1.03±0.06 GeV−2, while in the higher PT range, 0.8 to 3.6 GeV, it is well fit by the form exp(-b’×PT) with b’=2.76±0.08 GeV−1. The shape of the differential cross section has no significant dependence on atomic mass of the target material.

A measurement of the cross-sections for single and double prompt photon production in p p interactions at s = 630 GeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 13.2 pb −1 . The results are in good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD. The signal from double prompt photon production has a statistical significance of 4.3 standard deviations.

A study of events containing at least four high transverse momentum jets and a search for double parton scattering (DPS) have been performed using data collected with the UA2 detector at the CERN p p Collider (√ s =630 GeV). The results are in good agreement with leading order QCD calculations. A value of σ DPS <0.82 nb at 95% confidence level (CL) is obtained for the DPS cross section.

Jet properties ine+e− annihilation at center of mass energies of 14, 22, 35 and 43.7 GeV were studied with the data collected in the TASSO detector at PETRA, using the same evaluation procedures for all the energies. The total hadronic cross section ratio for the center of mass energy interval 39–47 GeV was determined to be ℛ=4.11±0.05 (stat)±0.18(syst.) at\(\langle \sqrt s \rangle= 43 - 7\) GeV. Corrected distributions of global shape variables are presented as well as the inclusive charged particle distributions for scaled momentum and transverse momentum. The center of mass energy evolution of the average sphericity, thrust, aplanarity and particle momentum is shown.

Measurement of the s**(1/2) Dependence of Jet Production at the CERN anti-p p Collider

The production of very large transverse momentum ( p T ) hadron jets has been measured in the UA2 experiment at the CERN p p Collider for s =630 GeV . The inclusive jet production cross sections exhibit a p T -dependent increase with respect to the s =546 GeV data from previous Collider runs. This increase can be described both by QCD calculations and by approximate x T =2 p T /√ s scaling. No significant deviation of the data from QCD predictions is observed at very large p T , placing a lower limit on the characteristic scale Λ c of a hypothetical superstrong contact interaction responsible for the binding of preons in the quark ( Λ c >370 GeV at 95% CL).

Measurement of Very Large Transverse Momentum Jet Production at the CERN anti-p p Collider

Phys.Lett.B 138 (1984) 430-440, 1984.

The production of very large transverse momentum hadron jets has been measured in the UA2 experiment at the CERN p p Collider for s = 540 GeV using a highly segmented calorimeter. The range of previously available cross sections for inclusive jet production is extended to p T = 150 GeV and the two-jet invariant mass distribution to m jj = 280 GeV with the largely increased data sample collected during the 1983 running period. The results are compared with the predictions of QCD models.
