Measurements ofKs0, Λ and$\bar \Lambda $ production in π− nucleus (C, Cu, Pb) interactions are presented. The experiment was carried out with the streamer chamber spectrometer RISK using a π− beam of ∼40 GeV/c and a trigger requiring a secondary charged particle with transverse momentum above 1.1 GeV/c. Production cross sections, relative production rates and distributions of Feynmanx and transverse momentum squared as well as correlations between theV0 and the trigger particle are presented. The results are compared and found to be in agreement withKs0, Λ and$\bar \Lambda $ data from untriggered π−p and π−C interactions, except for the relative production rate of antilambdas which is about to times larger in high-pt collisions. Our results can be well interpreted within the dual topological unitarization model.

Single-spin asymmetries for hadrons have been measured in collisions of transversely-polarized 40 GeV/c proton beam with an unpolarized liquid hydrogen target. The asymmetries were measured for pi+-, K+-, protons and antiprotons, produced in the central region (0.02 < Xf < 0.10 and 0.7 < Pt < 3.4 GeV/c). Asymmetries for pi+-, K+- and antiprotons show within measurement errors the linear dependence on Xt and change a sign near 0.37. For protons negative asymmetry, independent of Xt has been found. The results are compared with those of other experiments and SU(6) model predictions.

Resonance behavior of a K(S) K(S) system near the mass 1775-MeV.

The preliminary results of an investigation of a system of two K S mesons in the mass interval 1600–1950 MeV are reported. The events were obtained on a 6-m magnetic spark spectrometer at ITEP in π − p interactions at 40 GeV, using a neutral trigger which suppressed both charged particles and γ rays. A peak of width ≃30 MeV with statistical significance not lower than six standard deviations is observed with momentum transfer selection |tu|0.23 GeV2 near the mass 1775 MeV of the K S K S system. The observed phenomena can be interpreted as the existence of one resonance with the indicated parameters, or two narrower resonances. In the latter case, their masses are 1768±1.5 and 1787±1.5 MeV. The widths of these states are comparable to the mass resolution of the spectrometer (∼5 MeV). Estimates of the product σ ⋅BR(K S K S ) give ∼1.5 and 2.5 nb, respectively, for the first and second states.
