MEASUREMENTS OF CROSS-SECTIONS AND CHARGE ASYMMETRIES FOR e+ e- ---> tau+ tau- AND e+ e- ---> mu+ mu- FOR S**(1/2) FROM 52-GeV TO 57-GeV

The AMY collaboration Bacala, A. ; Malchow, R.L. ; Sparks, K. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 218 (1989) 112-118, 1989.
Inspire Record 265797 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.51370

Measurements of the differential cross sections for e + e − →μ + μ − and e + e − →τ + τ − at values of s from 52 to 57 GeV are reported. The forward-backward asymmetries and the total cross sections for these reactions are found to be in agreement with predictions of the standard model of the electro-weak interactions. These measurements are used to extract values of the weak coupling constant g v e g v l and g A e g A l , where l = μ or τ .

Axis error includes +- 5/5 contribution (Included in the quoted errors for the total cross sections. The main contribution to SYS-ERR are the systematic uncertainty in the luminosity measurement and the uncertainty in the computer modeling of the various efficiencies and backgrounds).

Measurement of $d \sigma / d \Omega$ and A(on) in $\bar{p} p$ Elastic Scattering Between 497-{MeV}/$c$ and 1550-{MeV}/$c$

Kunne, R.A. ; Beard, C.I. ; Birsa, R. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 323 (1989) 1-36, 1989.
Inspire Record 267175 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48676

Measurements have been made of the differential cross section and asymmetry A on for p p elastic scattering at 15 incident momenta between 497 MeV/ c and 1550 MeV/ c . The angular range where both particles have enough energy to traverse target and setup has been covered. The results are compared with predictions of various N N potential models. None of these models fully explains the present results, although the general trend of the data is predicted correctly.

Observation of the D*0 (2459) in e+ e- Annihilation

The ARGUS collaboration Albrecht, H. ; Bockmann, P. ; Glaser, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 221 (1989) 422-426, 1989.
Inspire Record 268577 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29827

Using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II storage ring at DESY, we have observed a charmed meson of mass (2455±3±5) MeV/c2, decaying to D + π − . The natural width of this state is determined to be (15 +13+5 −10−10 ) MeV c 2 . The fragmentation function is hard, as expected for a leading charmed particle from nonresonant e + e − annihilation. Analysis of the decay angular distribution supports the hypothesis that the observed state is an L =1 excited charmed meson with spin-parity 2 + .

Results on the reaction γγ → π + π − π 0 π 0 are presented. There is clear evidence for correlated ϱ + ϱ − production. The cross section is much lower than for γγ → ϱ 0 ϱ 0 .

Two Photon Production of Final States With a $p \bar{p}$ Pair

The ARGUS collaboration Albrecht, H. ; Bockmann, P. ; Glaser, R. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 42 (1989) 543, 1989.
Inspire Record 267759 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15473

Two-photon production of the exclusive final statesp\(\bar p\)+nπ (n=0, 1, 2, and 3) has been investigated using the ARGUS detector at thee+e− storage ring DORIS II at DESY. The reactionsγγ→p\(\bar p\)π andγγ→p\(\bar p\)π+π−π0 have been observed for the first time, as have theΔ++ and\(\overline {\Delta ^{ ++ } } \) baryons in the final statep\(\bar p\)π+π−. No evidence was found forΔ++\(\overline {\Delta ^{ ++ } } \) production. Topological cross sections for two-photon production ofp\(\bar p\),p\(\bar p\)π0,p\(\bar p\)π+π− andp\(\bar p\)π+π−π0, as well as the crosssection forγγ→Δ++\(\bar p\)π+π−+c.c., have been measured. Upper limits are given for the cross section forγγ→Δ0\(\overline {\Delta ^0 } \),γγ→Δ++\(\overline {\Delta ^{ ++ } } \) andγγ→Λ\(\bar \Lambda \).

A Measurement of W Boson Production in 1.8-TeV anti-p p Collisions

The CDF collaboration Abe, F. ; Amidei, D. ; Apollinari, G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 62 (1989) 1005, 1989.
Inspire Record 267998 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20078

The cross section for the production and subsequent decay to electron and neutrino of the W intermediate vector boson has been measured in 1.8-TeV p¯p collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. An analysis of events with missing transverse energy greater than 25 GeV and with an electron of transverse energy greater than 15 GeV from a datum sample of 25.3 nb−1 gives σB=2.6±0.6±0.5 nb.
