The x dependence of the longitudinal structure function F L was determined with the CHARM neutrino detector exposed to neutrino and antineutrino wide-band beams of the CERN 400 GeV SPS. The results show a clear deviation from the Callan-Gross relation. The amount and the x dependence of this deviation are in agreement with the contribution coming from a finite transverse momentum of the partons in the nucleon if both the intrinsc and perturbative QCD terms are taken into account.
VALUES OF Q**2 FOR EACH POINT IN THE TABLE ARE:- 0.76,3.0,9.3,16.6,18.9.
Some experimental properties of the charged hadronic fragments are compared for νp, νn,\(\bar vp\) and\(\bar vn\) interactions: multiplicities of forward and backward going particles,xF distributions for pions, fragmentation functions and theirQ2 andW2 dependence. The results are compared with the predictions of the Lund fragmentation model.

Distributions of the Bjorken scaling variables x and y, and the structure function F+(x), are presented both for neutral-current and for charged-current νμ interactions. The data were obtained by use of the Fermilab 15-ft neon bubble chamber exposed to a narrow-band νμ beam. Results are based on 151 neutral-current and 683 charged-current events. An important feature of the neutral-current analysis is the event-by-event reconstruction of the outgoing neutrino.

The interference structure function xG 3 ( x ) has been measured for the first time scattering positive and negative muons of opposite helicity off a carbon target. The x dependence observed for Q 2 between 40 and 180 (GeV/c 2 ) is in good agreement with predictions of the quark-parton model. The measured ratio 2( a u Q u + a d Q d )/( Q u 2 + Q d 2 = 1.87 ± 0.25 (stat.) ± 0.24 (syst.) is consistent with the hypothesis of fractional quark charges and determines the sign of Q u − Q d to be positive.

Nucleon structure functions obtained from neutrino and anti-neutrino scattering on iron nuclei at high energies (Ev=30 to 250 GeV) are presented. These results are compared with the results of other lepton-nucleon scattering experiments. The structure functions are used to test the validity of the Gross-Llewellyn-smith sum rule, which measures the number of valence quarks in the nucleons, and to obtain leading and second order QCD fits.

The deep-inelastic electron-scattering cross sections per nucleon σA for D, He, Be, C, A1, Ca, Fe, Ag, and Au were measured in the kinematic range 0.09<~x<~0.9 and 2<~Q2<~15 (GeV/c)2 with use of electrons with energies ranging from 8 to 24.5 GeV. The ratio σAσD is consistent with unity in the range 0.1<x<0.3. For 0.3<x<0.8, the ratio decreases logarithmically with atomic weight A, or linearly with average nuclear density. No Q2 dependence in the ratio was observed over the kinematic range of the data.

New results on the forward produced protons and antiprotons in high energy muon-nucleon scattering are presented. Their W 2 , z and p 2 T dependences are compared with those of the other charged hadrons. Significant differences are observed which can be related to the flavour content of the target and to a difference between the baryon content of quark and gluon jets.

A search for supersymmetric electron production via the reaction e+e−→e±γ̃ẽ∓ followed by the decay ẽ∓→e∓γ̃ has been performed with the MAC detector at the electron-positron storage ring PEP. No candidates were found in a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.4 pb−1. For a massless γ̃ this corresponds to a lower limit on the ẽ mass of 22.4 GeV/c2 at the 95% confidence level.

Inclusive ϱ 0 meson production has been measured in 120 GeV and 280 GeV muon-proton interactions. Distributions of z and p T 2 are presented. Primary ϱ 0 production is found to be equal to that of π 0 production within errors.

Data from an exposure of the BEBC bubble chamber filled with deuterium to neutrino and antineutrino wide band beams have been used to extract the x dependence of the structure functions for scattering on protons and neutrons and the fractional momentum distributions of the valence quarks and the antiquarks of different flavours. The difference F n 2 − F p 2 is compared with recent data from high energy μD scattering. A result is also obtained on the sum rule giving the difference between the number of up and down quarks in the nucleon.
