We present results from a measurement of the differential cross sections for Σ−p, Ξ−p, and π−p elastic scattering at 23 GeV/c. We have collected samples of 6200 Σ−p events, 67 Ξ−p events, and 30 000 π−p events in the interval 0.10<|t|<0.23 (GeV/c)2.

Inclusive Single Particle Production at 90-Degrees in the Center-Of-Mass System for Nuclear Targets and 28.5-GeV/c Incident Protons

The invariant cross section for the inclusive production of π+, π−, K+, K−, p, and p¯ is presented for proton-nucleon interactions at plab=28.5 GeV/c. Beryllium, titanium, and tungsten targets were used and the yields were extrapolated to A=1 using the power law σ∼Aα. The exponent α increases with pT, except for protons. The pT dependence of the cross sections is compared with a simple fireball model.

Multi-Pion and Multistrange Particle Photoproduction Off Neutrons Up to 5.3-GeV

In a study of photoproduction at photon energies up to 5.3 GeV in a deuterium bubble chamber the reactions γ n→p π + π − π − and γ n→p π + π − π − π 0 were analyzed. In these reactions production of the resonances Δ ++ , Δ 0 , ϱ 0 , ω and A 2 − was observed. Photoproduction of strange particles was investigated and cross sections for the reactions γ n→ Λ K + π − , Σ − K 0 π + , pK − K 0 , Λ K 0 π + π − and Λ K + π − π 0 are presented. Production of Σ − (1385) and K ∗0 (890) was observed.

Cross-Sections and Charged Multiplicity Distributions for $\pi^- p$ and $K^- p$ Interactions at 147 GeV/c.

The results presented in this paper were obtained from a 105 000 frame exposure of the FNAL Hybrid Proportional Wire Chamber-30 inch Bubble Chamber System, in a tagged beam of 147 GeV/ c negative particles. Elastic, total and topological cross sections were obtained for both π − p and K − p interactions. Comparisons with other data, taken with various beam particles over large momentum intervals, show good agreement with KNO scaling, and similarity in the scaling behavior of σ n for the different beam particles.

Comparison of Neutral Particle Production in 100 GeV/c $\bar{p}p$ and pp Interactions.

We derive cross-sections for the inclusive productiion in p̄p interactions at 100 GeV /c of π 0 , K S 0 and Λ 0 Λ 0 of 91.5±5.7 mb, 5.2±0.4 mb and 4.8±0.4 mb respectively, which are all higher than pp cross-sections at energy. We find indications that these differences can be attributed to “annihilation” processes.

We present the results of a formation experiment for the reactions K±p→Σ±π± in the c.m.s. energy between 2200 and 2436 MeV with a total statistics of 10 ev/μb. A partial-wave analysis including these new data gives evidence for the existence of three resonances in theD15,G19 andH09 states and confirms the existence of anF05 state.

Inclusive Photoproduction of Charged Particles in the Forward Hemisphere

We report measurements of the invariant cross section in the forward hemisphere for inclusive photoproduction of π±, K±, p, and p¯ from hydrogen and deuterium with an incident photon energy of 18 GeV. A small amount of data was also taken at incident energies of 9 and 13 GeV. The measurements were made using the SLAC 20-GeV/c spectrometer, and a bremsstrahlung-subtraction technique was used to obtain the cross sections at the specified incident energy. The data are compared with those from lower-energy experiments and interpreted within the context of the Mueller-Regge model and the constituent-interchange model.
