Results of two spark chamber experiments on A 2 − production in the reaction π − p → K − K S 0 (→ π + π − )p at 9.8 and 18.8 GeV are presented. Decay angular distributions and differential cross sections are given, and the energy dependence of the cross section σ [ π − p → A 2 − (→ K − K 0 )p] is compared with results from π − p → A 2 − (→ 3 π )p.
FITS WITH CONSTANT BACKGROUNDS. A TWO-PARAMETER LINEAR BACKGROUND GIVES MUCH LARGER ERRORS.
INTEGRATED OVER M(K AK) = 1.20 TO 1.42 GEV.

The differential cross sections for elastic π − p, K − p , p p and π + p, pp scattering at 39 and 44.5 GeV/ c , respectively, have been measured in the interval of momentum transfer squared 0.15 ≤ ovbt | ≤ 2 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

The differential cross sections for neutron-proton charge-exchange scattering have been measured with high statistics in the region of momentum transfer squared 0.002 < | t | ⩽ 0.400 (GeV/ c ) 2 and for incident neutron momenta 9 < p ⩽ 23 GeV/ c .

The differential cross sections for neutron-proton elastic charge-exchange scattering have been measured with a two-arm technique for incident neutron momenta between 22 and 65 GeV/ c and for values of the momentum transfer squared between 0.002 and 0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The sharp forward peak observed previously at lower energies is also present at momenta up to 65 GeV/ c ; however the s dependence of the cross section is slowing down.

The p p elastic differential cross section at 50 GeV/c has been measured in a two-arm spectrometer experiment at the CERN SPS. The | t | range covered extends from 0.7 to 5 (GeV/c. A pronounced dip-bump structure is observed with a sharp minimum at | t | = 1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

Results are presented from experiment WA7 at the CERN SPS, which has measured the elastic differential cross sections of π ± p, K ± p, p p and pp at incident momen ta of 20, 30 and 50 GeV/ c . The measurements cover the momentum transfer range 0.5 < | t | < 8 (GeV/ c ) 2 , corresponding to c.m. scattering angles between 10° and 50°. The experimental set-up, trigger logic and data analysis are described. The experimental results are compared with existing meson-proton and nucleon-proton data at lower and higher energies covering the medium- and large-| t | region. Some prominent models and their predictions for elastic scattering at WA7 energies and beyond are reviewed, with emphasis on geometrical scaling, factorizing eikonal models, lowest-order QCD and other dynamical exchange-type models. Results for p p two-body annihilation into π − π + and K − K + at 30 and 50 GeV/ c , obtained in parallel with the elastic p p data, are also presented.

A study is made of the ωπ 0 system produced near threshold in the reaction γ p→ π + π − π 0 π 0 p. A spin-parity analysis shows that the ωπ 0 enhancement is consistent with predominant 1 + B(1235) production, with ∼20% J P = 1 − background.
MEAN BEAM ENERGY IS 39 GEV.
ESTIMATE OF B(1235) PRODUCTION CROSS SECTION ASSUMING 1+ CROSS SECTION OF 0.63 +- 0.20 MUB AND THAT 20 PCT OF THIS IS DUE TO BACKGROUND S-WAVE CONTRIBUTIONS.
A peak is reported in the ηπ + π − system, produced in the reaction γ p→ ηπ + π − p, at a mass of 1.28 ± 0.01 GeV with a width of 0.08 ± 0.02 GeV. Possible spin-parity assignments for the peak are shown to be J π = 1 − , J π = 1 + or J π = 2 + and interpretations of these assignments are discussed.
