The reaction π − p→ π 0 ηn ↳2y ↳2y has been analyzed using data of an experimental performed at the 70 GeV accelerator, with the NICE 648 channel hodoscope spectrometer for γ ray detection. Events with 4 γ seen are used for the analysis. A method is applied, which allows the determination of the number of π 0 η events for each mass, cos θ GJ and t bin. Mass spectra, t distributions and decay angular distributions for the π 0 η system are presented. The cross section for the production of A 2 0 is found to be 2.7 ± 1.1 μ b at 40 GeV/ c beam momentum. No indication of a resonant 1 − state in the π 0 η system is observed, in spite of the fact that this state is allowed for the π 0 η system on the same footing as the observed 0 + and 2 + resonances.

Nearly 200 000 examples of the diffractive process K − p → K − π − π + p at 63 GeV have been obtained using a two magnet spectrometer equipped with Čerenkov counters for secondary particle identification. In addition some 2000 examples of the process K − p → ω K − p have been obtained. The K ππ data have been subjected to partial-wave analysis. The dominant J P = 1 + system couples to K ∗ π , in both S and D waves, ϱ K, κπ and ε K. The data confirm the existence of two J P = 1 + Q mesons and their masses, widths and branching ratios are given. The ifωK data show that the couplings of the Q mesons to ω K are approximately equal to the couplings to ϱ 0 K. The two 1 + nonets expected in the quark model are discussed in the light of this and other recent experiments. There is strong evidence for a broad J P = 0 − resonance at about 1.46 GeV. At higher masses, structure in the J P = 2 − partial waves establishes the existence of at least one J P = 2 − L meson.
JP=1+ S-WAVE PARTIAL WAVE INTENSITIES AND TOTAL INTENSITY FOR Q-REGION. THE <K* PI> INTENSITY IS DOMINATED BY QHIGH. THE <K RHO> AND <KAPPA PI> INTENSITIES ARE DOMINATED BY QLOW.
The inclusive reactions h+p→ φ +X, (h= π ±, ,K ± ,p ± ), are studied for 0⪅ x F ⪅0.3 and p ⊥ ⩽ 1 GeV at 93 and and 63 GeV incident momentum. Differential cross sections d σ /d p ⊥ 2 and dσ /d x F are presented and are compared with predictions of the naive parton model.

Diffractive production of the 3 π system has been studied at 63 and 94 GeV using a two magnet spectrometer with high, uniform acceptance. The total number of events used in the analysis is ∼600 000. The A 2 meson is shown to be diffractively produced. The existence of a resonant component in both the 1 + and 2 − enhancements is established and resonance parameters for the corresponding A 1 and A 3 mesons are given. There are several indications in the data of states which would correspond to radial excitations in the quark model.

Q-meson production is studied in the hypercharge exchange reaction π-p → (Kππ)Λ at 3.95 GeV/c by selecting events witht(π- →Kππ)>1.2GeV2. An enhancement with a mass of 1294±10 MeV and a width of 66±15 MeV is observed in the (Kππ) mass distribution. A spin-parity analysis of the (Kππ) decay Dalitz plot shows the enhancement to be in theJP=1+S(Kϱ) wave and is therefore attributed toQ1-meson production. No evidence is found for the decayQ1→K0ω but limited statistics allow only placing an upper limit of 30% for the decay ratioKω/Kϱ0. TheQ1 production cross section fort(π- →Kππ)>1.2GeV2 is 8±1.3 μb. No evidence is found for the process π-p→Q2Λ withQ2→K*π for which the partial wave analysis gives an upper cross section limit of 2.5 μb at the 95% confidence level.
PRODUCTION OF Q1 OF MASS 1294 +- 10 MEV, WIDTH 66 +- 15 MEV. IN BACKWARD HEMISPHERE, CROSS SECTION IS <0.5 MUB (CL = 95 PCT).
UPPER LIMIT FOR PRODUCTION OF Q2 OF MASS AROUND 1400 MEV.

Exotic exchange processes observed in K − p and π − p scattering in the neighbourhoood of 4 GeV/ c are analysed in terms of standard models. Some new data on π − p induced processes are presented and used in the analysis. Regge-Regge cut predictions are found to be smaller than the data up to these energies. Baryonium exchange models are shown to be indistindistinguishable from Regge cut models as regards their phenomenological predictions. The double scattering quark model of Białas and Zalewski is compatible with data on the exotic exchange production of Σ and Y ∗ (1385), but fails for Ξ and Ξ ∗ (1530) production. Modifications of this model are discussed.

Data are presented from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment to K − p interactions over the c.m. energy range 1720 to 1796 MeV. Channel cross sections, differential cross sections and, where appropriate, polarisation distributions have been obtained for the final states K − p , K 0 n , π 0 Λ and π ± Σ ∓ . These data are compared with those from previously published experiments and with the predictions from the RL-IC 77 partial-wave amplitudes for each of these channels.
