Z.Phys.C 31 (1986) 175, 1986.
Inspire Record 227131 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.1817

The energy distribution of inclusive hadrons produced by 280 GeV muons on hydrogen and deuterium targets are compared. The sum of the scaled energy distributions of the positive and negative hadrons is found to be the same for the two targets. The difference of these distributions is observed to factorise inx andz and thez-dependence is found to be independent of the target type and have a form (1−z)2.1±0.2. The net charge of the hadronic jet is positive at highx even in the case when the scattering takes place on the neutron. These results are in good agreement with the expectations of the Quark Parton Model.

Inclusive $\Lambda^0$ Polarization in Proton Nucleus Collisions at 12-{GeV}

Abe, F. ; Hara, K. ; Kim, S. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 34 (1986) 1950-1959, 1986.
Inspire Record 237791 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23459

The polarization of Λ0 hyperons in inclusive production by 12-GeV protons on nuclei has been measured for beryllium, copper, and tungsten targets. Data are obtained at five production angles, 3.5°, 5.0°, 6.5°, 8.0°, and 9.5°, covering the kinematic range 0.26≤xF≤0.77 and 0.4≤pT≤1.5 GeV/c. The dependence of the polarization on target nuclei is investigated by statistical analyses of the data. The polarization at fixed pT increases roughly linearly with xF. The present results are compared with other work at higher energies in terms of the A dependence and the (xF,pT) dependence.

Production of Xi0 and anti-Xi0 hyperons by 400-GeV Protons

Beretvas, A. ; Deck, L. ; Devlin, T. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 34 (1986) 53-74, 1986.
Inspire Record 233799 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23426

Inclusive production cross sections have been measured for the processes p+A→Ξ0+X (A=Be, Cu, Pb) and for p+Be→Ξ¯0+X. Data were taken at angles of 0, 2, 3.5, 7.3, and 9.8 mrad between the incident 400-GeV proton beam and the outgoing hyperon beam. Production cross sections for Λ and Λ¯ production were measured at the same time. The A dependence of the Ξ0 cross sections is discussed, along with interpretations in terms of various models.

Prompt Electron Production From Delco at {PEP}

The DELCO collaboration Pal, T. ; Atwood, W.B. ; Barish, B.C. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 33 (1986) 2708, 1986.
Inspire Record 226886 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23516

We report final results on prompt electron production in hadronic events from e+e− annihilations at √s =29 GeV, obtained with the DELCO detector at the SLAC storage ring PEP. We find the semielectronic branching ratios of charm and bottom quarks to be B(c→se+νe)=(11.6−0.9 +1.1)% and B(b→ce−ν¯e)=(14.9−1.9 +2.2)% respectively. These results, from the complete data set, are consistent with an earlier analysis of partial data and indicate hard fragmentation functions for both c and b quarks, with mean values 〈zc〉=0.59±0.04 and 〈zb〉=0.72±0.05. The errors indicated here are a combination of statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Measurements of Production Polarization and Decay Asymmetry for $\Xi^-$ Hyperons

Rameika, R. ; Beretvas, A. ; Deck, L. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 33 (1986) 3172-3179, 1986.
Inspire Record 233005 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23517

The polarization of Ξ− hyperons produced by 400-GeV protons in the reaction p+Be→Ξ−+X has been measured as a function of momentum at two production angles. The average polarization for the full sample (192 110 events) was -0.108±0.007. Comparisons are made with polarization measurements for other hyperons produced under similar conditions. From the same data, αΛαΞ was measured to be -0.303±0.004±0.004, where αΛ is the asymmetry parameter in the decay Λ→pπ−, αΞ is the asymmetry parameter in the decay Ξ−→Λπ−, and the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This yields αΞ=-0.472±0.006±0.011, where the systematic uncertainty is dominated by the uncertainty in αΛ. An updated test of the ΔI=1/2 rule in Ξ decay is presented.

Measurement of the $\bar{p} p \to \bar{n} n$ Cross-section at Low $\bar{p}$ Momenta

Bruckner, W. ; Dobbeling, H. ; Guttner, F. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 169 (1986) 302-308, 1986.
Inspire Record 219986 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30264

First measurements of the differential cross section are presented for p ̄ p → n ̄ n at LEAR in the momentum range between 180 and 600 MeV/ c . The differential cross sections show a forward peaking followed by a smooth drop-off. No indication of the “bump-dip” structure reported at higher momenta has been observed. The angle-integrated charge-exchange cross sections are determined down to E n ̄ n cm = 6.6 MeV .

Direct Measurements of Charmed d Meson Hadronic Branching Fractions

The MARK-III collaboration Baltrusaitis, R.M. ; Becker, J. ; Blaylock, G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 56 (1986) 2140, 1986.
Inspire Record 220653 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20248

A new technique is applied to data collected at the ψ(3770) resonance to derive charmed-D-meson branching fractions without relying on the measurement of D-production cross sections. Measurements are presented for three decay modes of the D0 (K−π+, D−π−π+π+, and K−π+π0 and four decay modes of the D+ (K−π+π+,K−π+π+π0,KS0π+, and KS0π+π0). The resulting branching fractions are significantly larger than previous measurements.

A Measurement of the Direct Photon Spectrum From the $\Upsilon$ (1s)

Phys.Rev.Lett. 56 (1986) 1222, 1986.
Inspire Record 220652 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20260

We have observed decays of the ϒ(1S) into hadronic final states containing high-energy photons. These are interpreted as coming from the decay ϒ(1S)→γ+gluon+gluon. We compare the shape of the observed photon energy spectrum with several theoretical predictions and deduce the value of the strong-coupling constant αs and the QCD scale parameter ΛMS― (MS― denotes the modified minimal-subtraction scheme) associated with each prediction.

A STUDY OF NONCOLLINEAR TWO CHARGED PARTICLE EVENTS PRODUCED IN 29-GeV ELECTRON - POSITRON ANNIHILATION

Perl, Martin L. ; Muller, L. ; Barklow, T. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 34 (1986) 3321, 1986.
Inspire Record 223166 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23431

This paper presents a study of events produced in 29-GeV electron-positron annihilation in which there are just two noncollinear charged particles, no detected photons, and two or more undetected particles. These events can be explained by attributing them primarily to the reactions e+e−→e+e−e+e− and e+e−→e+e−μ+μ− where just two particles appear in the Mark II detector. There is no evidence for unconventional sources for such events.

Intermediate Vector Boson Properties at the {CERN} Super Proton Synchrotron Collider

The UA1 collaboration Arnison, G. ; Albrow, M.G. ; Allkofer, O.C. ; et al.
EPL 1 (1986) 327-345, 1986.
Inspire Record 219230 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30283

The properties of a sample of 172 charged intermediate vector bosons decaying in the (eνe) channel and 16 neutral intermediate vector bosons decaying in the (e+e-) channel are described. Masses, decay widths, decay angular distributions, and production cross-sections are given; they are shown to be in excellent agreement with the expectations of the SU2 ⊗ U1 standard model. A limit is put on the number of light-neutrino types Nν ≤ 10 at 90% c.l.
