We report on a measurement of the mass of the Z 0 boson, its total width, and its partial decay widths into hadrons and leptons. On the basis of 25 801 hadronic decays and 1999 decays into electrons, muons or taus, selected over eleven energy points between 88.28 GeV and 95.04 GeV, we obtain from a combined fit to hadrons and leptons a mass of M z =91.154±0.021 (exp)±0.030 (LEP) GeV, and a total width of Γ z =2.536±0.045 GeV. The errors on M z have been separated into the experimental error and the uncertainty due to the LEP beam energy. The measured leptonic partial widths are Γ ee =81.2±2.6 MeV, Γ μμ =82.6± 5.8 MeV, and Γ ττ =85.7±7.1 MeV, consistent with lepton universality. From a fit assuming lepton universality we obtain Γ ℓ + ℓ − = 81.9±2.0 MeV. The hadronic partial width is Γ had =1838±46 MeV. From the measured total and partial widths a model independent value for the invisible width is calculated to be Γ inv =453±44 MeV. The errors quoted include both the statistical and the systematic uncertainties.

Photon asymmetry in radiative muon capture on calcium

Virtue, C.J. ; Aniol, K.A. ; Entezami, F.E. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 517 (1990) 509-532, 1990.
Inspire Record 297073 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36825

The photon asymmetry (α γ ) and partial branching ratio above 57 MeV ( R k > 57) have been measured for radiative muon capture on 40 Ca in order to determine the magnitude of the induced-pseudoscalar coupling constant, g p . Based on 2500 events a value of α γ = 1.32 +0.57 −0.47 is obtained from a fit to the photon time spectrum; this implies a value for g p <5.2 g A . For the first time the asymmetry signal is clearly visible and unconstrained multi-parameter fits reproduce the parameters obtained from the decay electron spectrum. The present results are discussed and compared in detail with previous results.

Production of Charmed Mesons in $\gamma \gamma$ Interactions

The TASSO collaboration Braunschweig, W. ; Gerhards, R. ; Kirschfink, F.J. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 47 (1990) 499-504, 1990.
Inspire Record 294597 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15178

Production of charmed mesons in γγ-interactions at PETRA energies has been observed in the TASSO detector. Cross sections for inclusiveD*± and\(D^0 \bar D^0 \) production have been measured. Neutral and charged meson pairs are estimated to be produced with comparable cross sections, and their sum seems to account for a sizeable fraction of σtot(γγ→hadrons) near the\(c\bar c\) threshold.

MEASUREMENTS OF R FOR e+ e- ANNIHILATION AT TRISTAN

Phys.Rev.D 42 (1990) 1339-1349, 1990.
Inspire Record 294525 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.22908

The ratio R of the total cross section for e+e− annihilation into hadrons to the lowest-order QED cross section for e+e−→μ+μ− has been measured for center-of-mass energies ranging from 50 to 61.4 GeV. If we allow for an overall shift of —4.9%, about 1.5 times our estimated normalization error, the results are consistent with the standard-model predictions.

Measurement of the Reactions $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $e^+ e^- \to \tau^+ \tau^-$ Between $\sqrt{s}=50$-{GeV} and 60.8-{GeV}

Z.Phys.C 48 (1990) 13-22, 1990.
Inspire Record 294672 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38414

The angular distributions of the reactione+e−→μ+μ− ande+e+→τ+τ− have been measured between\(\sqrt s= 50\) and 60.8 GeV with the VENUS detector at TRISTAN. The average total cross section and the forward-backward charge asymmetry for μ-pair production are observed to be 28.3±1.4±0.8 pb and (−29.0−4.8+5.0±0.5)%, and those for τ-pair production are 27.6±1.7±1.0 pb and (−32.8−6.2+6.4±1.5)% at\(\langle \sqrt s \rangle \). These values are consistent with the predictions of the standard model of electroweak interactions.

Global Jet Properties at 14-{GeV} to 44-{GeV} Center-of-mass Energy in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation

Z.Phys.C 47 (1990) 187-198, 1990.
Inspire Record 294755 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45170

Jet properties ine+e− annihilation at center of mass energies of 14, 22, 35 and 43.7 GeV were studied with the data collected in the TASSO detector at PETRA, using the same evaluation procedures for all the energies. The total hadronic cross section ratio for the center of mass energy interval 39–47 GeV was determined to be ℛ=4.11±0.05 (stat)±0.18(syst.) at\(\langle \sqrt s \rangle= 43 - 7\) GeV. Corrected distributions of global shape variables are presented as well as the inclusive charged particle distributions for scaled momentum and transverse momentum. The center of mass energy evolution of the average sphericity, thrust, aplanarity and particle momentum is shown.
