In this paper an investigation of the production of D ∗ ± mesons produced in e + e − collisions at energies around the Z 0 pole is presented. Based on 115 D ∗ ± mesons with x D∗  2E D ∗ /E cm > 0.2 the properties of D ∗ mesons produced in the reaction Z 0 → c c are studied. Fixing the yield and the fragmentation function of bottom quarks to the values obtained at LEP using lepton tags, and average energy fraction of the D ∗ ± mesons from primary charmed quarks of 〈x c → D ∗ 〉 = 0.52 ± 0.03 +- 0.01 is found and Γ z 0 →c c = (323 ± 61 ± 35) MeV is determined. The first error is the combined statistical and systematic error from this experiment, and the second the total error from other sources.

Phys.Lett.B 263 (1991) 563-572, 1991.
Inspire Record 315374 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29394

The large sample of W→eν events collected by the UA2 experiment at the CERN pp̄ collider between 1988 and 1990 has been used to determine the strong coupling constant α s . From a measurement of the ratio of the production rate of W events with one jet to that with no jets, α s has been extracted to second order in the MS ̄ scheme: α s (M 2 w )=0.123±0.0.18( stat .)±0.017 ( syst .) .

Phys.Lett.B 263 (1991) 544-550, 1991.
Inspire Record 315377 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47328

A measurement of the inclusive cross-section for production of direct photons in p̄p collisions at a centre of mass energy of 630 GeV is presented as a function of the photon transverse momentum. The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 7.4 pb −1 . The results support predictions from QCD theory.

Quasi-elastic scattering with central dipion cluster production is studied in π+p andK+p interactions at 250 GeV/c. The cross section of double pomeron exchange is obtained as σDPE(π+p →π+(π+π−)p)=24 ±5 µb and σDPE(K+p→K+(π+π−)p)=19 ±5 µb. The low energy pomeron-pomeron cross section is estimated for the first time.

Intermittency in hadronic decays of the Z0

The OPAL collaboration Akrawy, M.Z. ; Alexander, G. ; Allison, J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 262 (1991) 351-361, 1991.
Inspire Record 314631 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29397

A factorial moment analysis has been performed on the differential multiplicity distributions of hadronic final states of the Z 0 recorded with the OPAL detector at LEP. The moments of the one-dimensional rapidity and the two-dimensional rapidity versus azimuthal angle distributions are found to exhibit “intermittent” behaviour attributable to the jet structure of the events. The moments are reproduced by both parton shower and matrix element QCD based hadronisation models. No evidence for fluctuations beyond those attributable to jet structure is observed.

Measurement of the tensor analyzing power T(20) in inclusive deuteron breakup at 9-GeV/c on hydrogen and carbon

Phys.Lett.B 387 (1996) 37-42, 1996.
Inspire Record 328522 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28341

The tensor analyzing power T 20 in inclusive deuteron breakup at 9 GeV/c and 0° on hydrogen and carbon targets up to internal momenta k of the proton in the deuteron of ∼ 1 GeV/c has been measured. The analyzing power remains negative up to the highest measured values of k , and is in definite disagreement with predictions from several theoretical models. A systematic difference between T 20 for deuteron breakup on hydrogen and carbon is observed.

mu- e+ dilepton production in charged current mu neutrino interactions.

The production of μ−e+ dileptons by muon neutrinos is studied in a high-statistics bubble-chamber experiment. The experiment consisted of exposing the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber filled with a heavy Ne-H2 mix to a wideband neutrino beam. In a total sample of 146 700±11 700 charged-current interactions, 461 events with an e+(Pe+>300 MeV/c) and a μ− are observed. The rate for μ−e+ dilepton production in measured to be (0.42±0.06)%. The energy dependence of this rate is presented. The kinematic distributions for the μ−e+ events are consistent with charm production and subsequent semileptonic decay. A total of 60 KS0 and 31 Λ0 decays were observed in the μ−e+ event sample. The measured rates for neutral-strange-particle production are 0.78±0.12 K0K¯0's and 0.19±0.04 Λ0's per μ−e+ event. Finally, rates for Λc+, D0, and D+ production in charged-current νμ interactions are derived. They are found to be (4−2+10)%, (1.7−0.7+0.5)%, and (1.3−0.5+0.4)%, respectively.
