The π−+p→π0+n differential cross section at 180° has been measured for 52 values of π− momentum from 1.8 to 6.0 GeV/c using a constant-geometry detection system. The average statistical uncertainty is ∼5% and the systematic uncertainty is ∼10%. The details of the experiment and the data analysis are discussed. The data are compared with those of other experiments with which they are generally in agreement. One set of data disagrees with those presented here and a possible reason for this is discussed. A five-parameter fit of the predictions of a dual-resonance model to our data gave excellent agreement. The differential cross sections at 180° for π±p elastic scattering have been compiled and the moduli and relative phase of the T=12 and T=32 pion-nucleon s- and u-channel amplitudes (|A12|, |A32|, and cosδ) have a minimum at u=0.4 GeV/c and, in the s channel, a corresponding minimum at s=2.2 GeV/c.

Measurement of the polarization parameter in pi- p elastic scattering at 40 gev/c

The Saclay-Serpukhov-Dubna-Moscow collaboration Bruneton, C. ; Bystricky, J. ; Cozzika, G. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 44 (1973) 471-473, 1973.
Inspire Record 84826 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28096

We report our first measurements of the polarization in the elastic scattering of negative pions from polarized protons at an incident pion momentum of 40 GeV/ c . The momentum-transfer region covered was 0.08 < | t | < 1.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The angular distribution of the polarization exhibits a first minimum of ∼ − 5% and the well-known zero around t ≈ − 0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The energy variation of the first minimum (at around t = − 0.2) may be expressed in a simple form, P avr = −(0.48±0.06) s −0.52±0.05 .

Polarization of recoil protons from proton Compton scattering in the region of the second pi n resonance

Kabe, S. ; Fujii, T. ; Kamei, T. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 50 (1972) 17-28, 1972.
Inspire Record 84330 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32704

The polarization of recoil protons from proton Compton scattering has been measured at an angle of 90° c.m.s. in the region of the second nucleon resonance. The scattered photons were detected by a telescope which consisted of a lead plate converter, scintillation-counter hodoscopes and a Ćerenkov counter, The angles and momenta of recoil protons were analyzed by a magnet with four spark chambers. The polarization of protons was obtained from the asymmetry in the elastic scattering of protons on carbon in a spark chamber.

Electroproduction of pi- delta++(1236) and of pi+ delta0(1236) on hydrogen

Dammann, I. ; Driver, C. ; Heinloth, K. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 54 (1973) 355-380, 1973.
Inspire Record 84182 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32587

The electroproduction of a π-meson and of a Δ(1236) nucleon resonance on hydrogen, ep → e πΔ (1236), was investigated in the two charge states π − Δ ++ and π + Δ 0 by measuring the scattered lepton and the produced π-meson in coincidence. The differential cross sections as funcions of W , q 2 , t − t min and ø πq were determine in the following kinematical region: w = (π + δ) 2 = 2.0 − 3.0 GeV , |q 2 | = |(e−e′) 2 | = 0.15 − 0.8 GeV 2 /c 2 , |t − t min | = 0-0.5 GeV 2 /c 2 with t = ( p − δ) 2 , φ πq = 0 − 360° .

Photoproduction of two pions in the energy range of 4.1-GeV - 6.2-GeV

The Aachen-Hamburg-Heidelberg-Muenchen collaboration Struczinski, W. ; Dittmann, P. ; Eckardt, V. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 57 (1973) 1-17, 1973.
Inspire Record 84071 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32562

The reaction γp→; π + π − p in the energy range 4.1 to 6.2 GeV has been studied with a tagged photon beam incident on a liquid hydrogen target in the DESY one-meter streamer chamber. The reaction is analysed in terms of the longitudinal phase space (LPS) method. The one-pion-exchange model for Δ(1236) production and decay is examined. For the diffractive part of the LPS a dual model with pomeron exchange is investigated. In particular, the s -channel helicity conservation dual model of Dewey and Humpert describes the data well.

Polarization measurement of antiproton scattered elastically from proton at 220 mev

Nuovo Cim.A 17 (1973) 456-463, 1973.
Inspire Record 87646 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37771

The polarization of scattered antiproton in\(\bar pp\) elastic scattering has been measured at the kinetic energy of 220MeV by means of double scattering in a bubble chamber. The polarizations obtained are 0.28±0.11, 0.46±0.12, 0.51±0.19 and 0.38±0.31 at the scattering angles 28°, 42°, 56° and 73° in the c.m. system, respectively. These results do not seem to be in good agreement with a prediction given by Bryan and Phillips. We have also compared these data with a modified diffraction model.

We have found 431 events of the reaction K+d→K0pps at 3.8−GeVc K+ beam momentum in a 295 000-frame exposure of the Argonne National Laboratory 30-in. deuterium-filled bubble chamber. The event sample consists of one- and two-prong events with a visible K0 decaying to π+π− The total and differential cross sections are found after correction for unseen K0's and for efficiencies in the scanning-measuring-fitting chain. Comparisons of the data are made to an SU(3) sum rule, a Regge model, and data for K−p→K¯0n.

The crossover points are consistent with no energy dependence, average values being 0.14 ± 0.03, 1.190 ± 0.005, and 0.160 ± 0.007 GeV2 for π's, K's, and protons, respectively.

Measurement of the Slope of the Diffraction Peak for Elastic pp Scattering from 8-GeV to 400-GeV.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 31 (1973) 1088-1091, 1973.
Inspire Record 81722 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21381

The slope b(s) of the forward diffraction peak of p−p elastic scattering has been measured in the momentum-transfer-squared range 0.005≲|t|≲0.09 (GeV/c)2 and at incident proton energies from 8 to 400 GeV. We find that b(s) increases with s, and in the interval 100≲s≲750 (GeV)2 it can be fitted by the form b(s)=b0+2α′lns with b0=8.23±0.27, α′=0.278±0.024 (GeV/c)−2.
