A Study of pi- p --> f0 n Reaction at Momenta Up to 50-GeV/c

A mass spectrum of π o π o system in the final state of π − p → π o π o n reaction has been studied at the momenta 20 to 50 GeV/ c . The experiments were performed at the 70 GeV IHEP accelerator. In the mass distribution there has been selected a peak corresponding to f o meson production cross section decreases in the power form with the momentum. The differential cross section follows exponential dependence, exp ( bt ).

We report on a search for Ξ* production in the mass range 1.5-2.0 GeV / c2 in K−n interactions at 2.87 GeV / c. Upper limits on Ξ* production cross sections, as well as reaction cross sections for those final states in which Ξ*'s may be observed, are presented. In particular, an upper limit of 5.4 μb is placed on production of an isospin-−32 Ξ*−−.

J/psi Particle Production by 70-GeV/c Protons

Invariant mass spectrum of μ + μ − pairs produced by 70 GeV/ c protons in Be target are presented. Distinct enhancements in the mass regions of ϱ, ω mesons, φ meson and J/ψ particle are observed. For J/ψ production x and p ⊥ 2 distributions are given. The total cross section for the reaction p + Be → ( J ψ → μ + μ − ) + … is equal to 9.5 ± 2.5 nb/nucleus .

The reaction K + p→ Δ ++ (1236)+ anything is studied at beam momenta 8.2 and 16 GeV/ c and compared with other Δ ++ producing reactions. We find that the low-mass Δ ++ π − enhancement affects the shapes of Δ ++ inclusive distributions. The triple-Regge formula is found to be consistent with the data. Dual properties of this formula are successfully tested.

Boson States in the Reaction pi- p --> pi- pi- pi+ p with Leading pi+ Meson at 25-GeV/c

The reaction π − + p → π − + π − + π + + p at 25 GeV/ c was studied in the mass region M 3 π ⩾ 1.8 GeV with leading π + . The mass spectrum of the π + π − system shows peaks corresponding to the ϱ 0 , f and g 0 resonances and an enhancement around 1.9 GeV. Evidence is presented for a J P = 3 + s-wave g 0 π − state (A 4 ) similar to the ϱ 0 π − (A 1 ) and fπ − (A 3 ) threshold enhancements.

Search for xi* Production in K- p Interactions at 2.87-GeV/c

Evidence is presented for production of Ξ* resonances, decaying into Ξπ, Ξ(1530)π, ΛK¯, and ΣK¯, in K−p interactions at 2.87 Gev/c. The data represent final combined results from a 30-events/μb hydrogen exposure and an 18-events/μb exposure in deuterium designed to study Ξ* production in the mass interval 1.46-2.07 GeV/c2. In addition to Ξ(1820) and Ξ(1940), signals have been observed at masses of 1630 MeV/c2 and 1860 MeV/c2 decaying into Ξ−π+ and YK¯, respectively. Reaction cross sections have been measured for all final states containing two visible signs of strangeness, and for the final states ΛK−K+ and Σ0K−K+.
