The reaction π − p → φφ n has been isolated at 16 GeV/ c and its cross section determined to be 40 ± 10 nb. The φφ mass spectrum shows a threshold enhancement between 2.1 and 2.5 GeV. A successful description of the angular content of the φφ system requires two interferingss J P = 2 + states.

New data on the K−p elastic and charge exchange reactions are presented in the K− momentum range between 1.934 GeV/c and 2.516 GeV/c. A conventional energy-dependent partial-wave analysis covering the widerPK- range from 1.6 GeV/c to 2.516 GeV/c is presented together with a p.w.a. in which the duality ands-helicity conservation ideas are explicitly imposed in the fits. Finally the new Y*’s observed in this experiment are classified inSU3 multiplets.

New Data on K- p --> omega Lambda from 1.934-GeV/c to 2.516-GeV/c and Partial Wave Analyses from Threshold Up to 2436-MeV CMS Energy

We present the results of a bubble chamber study of the pure-isospinI = 0 reaction K−p → ωΛ at 7 incident momenta between 1.934 and 2.516 GeV/c. An energy-dependent partial-wave analysis in the c.m. energy range (2070 ÷ 2436) MeV including these new data confirms the coupling of theG7 Λ(2100) to this channel and yields evidence for the existence of a new resonant stateD3or P3 Λ(2325). A semi-energy-independent partial-wave analysis is also carried out, by means of all available data from the threshold of the K−p → ωΛ reaction up to 2436 MeV. This supplies clear and unambiguous evidence for the contribution of the knownP3 Λ(1860) and of the above-proposedD3 Λ(2325) to the ωΛ channel.

We present the results of a formation experiment for the reactions K±p→Σ±π± in the c.m.s. energy between 2200 and 2436 MeV with a total statistics of 10 ev/μb. A partial-wave analysis including these new data gives evidence for the existence of three resonances in theD15,G19 andH09 states and confirms the existence of anF05 state.

A Partial Wave Analysis of the ($K^+ K^- \pi^-$) System Produced in $\pi^- p \to K^+ K^- \pi^- p$ at 16-{GeV}/$c$

Inspire Record 169445 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.44589

The reaction π − p → K + K − π − p at 16 GeV/ c was studied in the CERN OMEGA spectrometer and a partial-wave analysis (PWA) of the low-mass (K + K − π − ) system (1.3–2.0 GeV) was performed. Only states in the unnatural spin-parity series produced by natural parity exchange are important and they approximately conserve t -channel helicity. The 1 + S K ∗ K wave dominates the low-mass (K + K − π − ) region. We observe an enhancement in 2 − P K ∗ K wave at a mass of 1.7 GeV, consistent with the decay of the A 3 resonance.

We employ data taken by the JADE and OPAL experiments for an integrated QCD study in hadronic e+e- annihilations at c.m.s. energies ranging from 35 GeV through 189 GeV. The study is based on jet-multiplicity related observables. The observables are obtained to high jet resolution scales with the JADE, Durham, Cambridge and cone jet finders, and compared with the predictions of various QCD and Monte Carlo models. The strong coupling strength, alpha_s, is determined at each energy by fits of O(alpha_s^2) calculations, as well as matched O(alpha_s^2) and NLLA predictions, to the data. Matching schemes are compared, and the dependence of the results on the choice of the renormalization scale is investigated. The combination of the results using matched predictions gives alpha_s(MZ)=0.1187+{0.0034}-{0.0019}. The strong coupling is also obtained, at lower precision, from O(alpha_s^2) fits of the c.m.s. energy evolution of some of the observables. A qualitative comparison is made between the data and a recent MLLA prediction for mean jet multiplicities.

Overall result for ALPHAS at the Z0 mass from the combination of the ln R-matching results from the observables evolved using a three-loop running expression. The errors shown are total errors and contain all the statistics and systematics.

Weighted mean for ALPHAS at the Z0 mass determined from the energy evolutions of the mean values of the 2-jet cross sections obtained with the JADE and DURHAMschemes and the 3-jet fraction for the JADE, DURHAM and CAMBRIDGE schemes evaluted at a fixed YCUT.. The errors shown are total errors and contain all the statistics and systematics.

Combined results for ALPHA_S from fits of matched predicitions. The first systematic (DSYS) error is the experimental systematic, the second DSYS error isthe hadronization systematic and the third is the QCD scale error. The values of ALPHAS evolved to the Z0 mass using a three-loop evolution are also given.

Spin observables in elastic proton scattering from polarized He-3

We have measured the absolute cross section σ(θ) and complete sets of spin observables A00ij in He3(p,p) elastic scattering at energies of 200 and 500 MeV. The observables depend on linear combinations of six complex scattering amplitudes for the p−3He system and provide a severe test of current reaction models. The in-scattering plane observables (A00mm, A00ll, A00lm, and A00ml) are all in quantitative disagreement with fully microscopic nonrelativistic optical model calculations and nonrelativistic distorted wave Born approximation calculations.
