A partial-wave analysis of the (K ππ ) 0 system produced in the charge exchange reaction K − p →( K 0 π + π − ) n has been made in the mass range 1.04 ⩽ M (K ππ ) < 1.56 GeV c data at 8, 10 and 16 GeV/ c . It was found that in about 2 3 of the cases, the (K ππ ) 0 system is produced in states of unnatural spin-parity, namely J P = 0 − and 1 + ; the rest is in the natural spin-parity state J P = 2 + state is consistent with being all K ∗ (1420). The unnatural spin-parity states are produced mostly (∼ 80% of the events) by natural parity exchange. The facts that unnatural spin-parity states are produced in this non-diffractive channel, with J P = 1 + dominant, and that the exchange responsible for their production is mostly of natural parity, are similar to what was found for the charged (K ππ ) − system in the diffractive reaction K − p→(K ππ ) − p. However, the absolute value and the energy dependence of the cross sections are very different in the two cases.

We have investigated the pp elastic scattering at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR). We report results for centre-of-mass scattering angles between 30 and 100 mrad and for centre-of-mass energies of 23.5,30.7, 44.9 and 53 GeV. The elastic differential cross-section shows a diffraction-like shape with a sharp minimum at about t = −1.4 GeV 2 .

An Investigation of rho Meson Production in pi p Interactions at 3.9-GeV/c

Haber, B. ; Hodous, M.F. ; Hulsizer, R.I. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 10 (1974) 1387, 1974.
Inspire Record 819 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25008

We have investigated the ρ-meson production mechanism in the three reactions π±p→ρ±p and π−p→ρ0n at 3.9 GeV/c (s=8.2 GeV2) using the prism-plot technique. Differential cross sections at all momentum transfers are presented. A significant backward peak has been found in all three reactions. The differential cross sections for these backward peaks are given and are compared with the equivalent pion elastic and charge-exchange cross sections in the backward direction. Using a linear combination of the three differential cross sections we have isolated the I=0 exchange contribution in the forward direction. This differential cross section has a zero at −t=0.45 (GeV/c)2 and is fitted by the dual absorptive model of Harari with an interaction radius of ∼ 1.2 F. The total I=0 cross section is calculated and compared with similarly determined cross sections at higher momenta. An analysis of the properties of the other possible spin-parity exchanges is also presented.

A Study of the Reaction anti-p n --> anti-p p pi- at 14.6-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.D 10 (1974) 1373, 1974.
Inspire Record 89251 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25045

From a 98000-photograph exposure of the BNL 80-in. deuterium-filled chamber to a 14.6-GeV/c p¯ beam we have extracted those events that fit the channel p¯n→p¯pπ−. The cross section for this channel is measured to be 730 ± 50 μb. The cross section for the reaction p¯n→Δ¯−−(1238)p is determined to be 130 ± 30 μb. Evidence for target dissociation is presented. A comparison with the reaction π−n→π−pπ− at the same energy indicates agreement with factorization.

A Study of the Reactions anti-K0 p ---> Lambda pi+ and anti-K0 p ---> Sigma0 pi+ from 1-GeV/c to 12-GeV/c

Cross sections, differential cross sections, and hyperon polarization results are presented for the reactions K¯0p→Λπ+ and K¯0p→Σ0π+ in the momentum interval 1 to 12 GeV/c. Emphasis is placed on the comparison of Λ and Σ channels, and on the momentum dependences of the data. In particular, the Λ polarization data are consistent with being independent of energy above 2 GeV/c; and the slopes of the forward cross sections are found to increase toward the slope values for the line-reversed reactions πp→K(Λ,Σ) as energy increases.

Production of pi0 Mesons in K+ p Interactions at 8.2-GeV/c

Acta Phys.Polon.B 5 (1974) 689, 1974.
Inspire Record 90280 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.51679

Experimental results on $\pi^0$ production in $K^+$p interactions at 8.2 GeV/$c$ incident momentum are presented. Average $\pi^0$ multiplicities for given prong numbers are evaluated. They are consistent both with the corresponding results for pp interactions at 12 GeV/$c$ chosen for comparison because they have the same average prong number) and with a model where total multiplicity distributions are calculated from the Czyżewski--Rybicki formula and the charge branching ratios from the statistical model. Some averages over the $\pi^0$ momentum distribution are also evaluated. In particular it is found that $\pi^0$-s produced in two prong interactions go predominantly forward.

Results on multiplicities, topological cross sections, total particle production cross sections, and correlations between charged particle and π 0 production are presented for pp interactions at 12 and 24 GeV/ c incident laboratory momentum. Inclusive production of π ± , K s 0 , p , Λ, Σ ± and Λ is studied; particle spectra are shown in single and double differential form and are compared, in different kinematic regions, with data obtained at other incident momenta and with other beam particles.

Nucl.Phys.B 72 (1974) 365-375, 1974.
Inspire Record 94658 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.7810

The π − p→n γ and π − p→n π ° differential cross sections have been measured for −0.9< cos θ ∗ <−0.45 (θ ∗ c.m. scattering angle) at 475 MeV/ c and 550 MeV/ c incident momenta. The π − p→n γ measurement is a good check of the detailed balance principle in the electromagnetic interactions of hadrons at these energies and is in good agreement with Walker's analysis. On the other hand the π − p→ π °n extrapolated values of 180° allows one to verify that the phases of the A 1 2 and A 3 2 amplitudes are equal.

Electroproduction of eta-mesons at the s(11)(1535) resonance

Phys.Lett.B 51 (1974) 103-105, 1974.

The reaction e − + p → e − + p + η has been studied in the region of the S 11 (1535)-resonance by detecting the recoil proton in coincidence with the scattered electron. The reaction has been observed at three four-momentum transfers of the virtual photon: q 2 = 0.2, 0.28 and 0.4 (GeV/ c ). First results of the differential cross section measurements are given and compared with quark model calculations.
