Using the CUSB-II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured Bμμ, the branching fraction into muons, of the Υ’’ meson. We find Bμμ(Υ’’)=(1.53±0.33±0.21)%, from which the Υ’’ total decay width is 25.5±5.0 keV. From this result we obtain αs=0.170−0.012+0.015, ΛMS¯=148−39+56 MeV. (MS¯ denotes the modified minimal-subtraction scheme).

A Study of the Decay $B \to \psi$ X

The CLEO collaboration Alam, M.S. ; Katayama, N. ; Kim, I.J. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 34 (1986) 3279, 1986.
Inspire Record 230961 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23447

We have measured the inclusive branching ratio for B→ψX to be (1.09±0.16±0.21)%, and the exclusive branching ratios for B−→ψK− and B¯ ¯0 *0 to be (0.09±0.05)% and (0.41±0.18)%, respectively. The mass difference between neutral and charged B mesons is 1.1±2.1 MeV, while the difference between the mass of Υ(4S) and twice the mean B-meson mass is 18.5±3.0 MeV. The ψ momentum distribution implies a substantial two-body decay (in agreement with direct measurements), but also some combination of B→ψX with MX>1.5 GeV, and B→ψ’X.

Z.Phys.C 33 (1986) 13, 1986.
Inspire Record 230950 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45205

The cross section for the processe+e−→π0+ anything has been measured at an average center of mass energy of 34.6 GeV for π0 energies between 0.7 and 17 GeV. The angular distribution for π0 energies larger than 2 GeV is of the formdσ/dΩ∼1+Acos2θ, withA=1.2±0.5. The ratio of π0 to π± production in the measured energy range is 2σ(π0)/(σ(π+)+σ(π−))=1.13±0.18

Experimental Study of the Reactions $e^+ e^- \to e^+ e^-$ and $e^+ e^- \to \gamma \gamma$ at 29-{GeV}

Derrick, M. ; Gan, K.K. ; Kooijman, P. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 34 (1986) 3286, 1986.
Inspire Record 18585 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23442

This paper reports measurements of the differential cross sections for the reactions e+e−→e+e− (Bhabha scattering) and e+e−→γγ (γ-pair production). The reactions are studied at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV and in the polar-angular region ‖costheta‖<0.55. A direct cross-section comparison between these two reactions provides a sensitive test of the predictions of quantum electrodynamics (QED) to order α3. When the ratio of γ-pair to Bhabha experimental cross sections, integrated over ‖costheta‖<0.55, is divided by the same ratio predicted from α3 QED theory, the result is 1.007±0.009±0.008. The 95%-confidence limits on the QED-cutoff parameters are Λ+>154 GeV and Λ−>220 GeV for Bhabha scattering, and Λ+>59 GeV and Λ−>59 GeV for γ-pair production.

A High Statistics Study of Upsilon Meson Production in $\pi^- W$ Reactions at 286-{GeV}/$c$

The NA10 collaboration Grossmann-Handschin, M. ; Guanziroli, M. ; Le Coultre, P. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 179 (1986) 170, 1986.
Inspire Record 230301 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30229

With a sample of about 2000( γ + γ ′+ γ ″) events observed in π-W interactions at 286GeV/ c , the ratio ( γ ′+ γ ″)/ γ =0.51±0.07, the branching ratio times the inclusive total cross section Bσ =(386±17±85) pb per W nucleus, as well as the differential cross sections in χ F and p T have been measured. These results are compared with previous data obtained with the same apparatus at a lower beam momentum (194 GeV/ c ). Both data sets are compared with a theoretical calculation (“duality model”) which also allows one to extract the shape parameter β g of the gluon distribution in the pion. β g is found to be 2.3 −0.3 +0.4 (stat.) −0.5 +0.1 (syst.).

Measurement and QCD Analysis of the Photon Structure Function F2 (x, Q**2)

The PLUTO collaboration Berger, Christoph ; Genzel, H. ; Lackas, W. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 281 (1987) 365, 1987.
Inspire Record 230592 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33588

We present a measurement of the hadronic structure function F 2 γ ( x , Q 2 ) of the photon in the Q 2 range from 10 to 100 GeV 2 . Data were taken with the PLUTO detector at the e + e - storage ring PETRA. This measurement and previous PLUTO measurements in the Q 2 range of 1.5 to 16 GeV 2 are compared with higher order QCD calculations. The structure function is consistent with the predicted log Q 2 behaviour when charm contributions are subtracted. The x dependence can be well described for 0.1 < x < 0.9 by the regularization scheme of Antoniadis and Grunberg. Within their scheme the data yield a value of Λ MS = 183 + 65/ −40( stat. ) + 46/ −36( sys. ) MeV for the QCD scale parameter.

MEASUREMENT OF THE INCLUSIVE BRANCHING FRACTION tau- ---> tau-neutrino pi- pi0 NEUTRAL MESON(S)

The TPC/Two Gamma collaboration Aihara, H. ; Alston-Garnjost, M. ; Avery, R.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 57 (1986) 1836, 1986.
Inspire Record 233422 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38106

We measure an inclusive branching fraction of (13.9 ± 2.0−2.2+1.9)% for the decay τ−→ντπ−π0+nh0(n>~1), where h0 is a π0 or an η. The data sample, obtained with the time-projection-chamber detector facility at the SLAC e+e− storage ring PEP, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 72 pb−1 at 29 GeV center-of-mass energy. The measured branching fraction is somewhat greater than the theoretical prediction and, with errors taken into account, could resolve the present difference between the inclusive and the sum of the exclusive τ± branching fractions into one charged prong.

A structure has been observed at 2220 MeV in the mass spectrum of ηη ′ systems produced by 38GeV/ c and 100 GeV/ c ′ negative pions on protons. The angular distribution of the decay products shows that this structure is presumably a spin J ⩾ 2 meson.

A Precise Measurement of Neutral Pion Photoproduction on the Proton Near Threshold

Mazzucato, E. ; Argan, P. ; Audit, G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 57 (1986) 3144, 1986.
Inspire Record 230501 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20203

An absolute measurement of π0 photoproduction on the proton has been carried out in the threshold region (from 144.7 to 173 MeV) by use of tagged annihilation photons. The measured cross sections, differential in the recoiling-proton energy, are used to perform a multipole analysis which gives a value & &, in disagreement with low-energy-theorem predictions. Total cross sections and coefficients of the π0 angular distribution are presented.

Inspire Record 231302 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6535

The strong interaction coupling constant α s has been measured with a new method, the planar triple energy correlation in the reaction e + e - → hadrons at center-of-mass energies ranging from 14 GeV to 46.78 GeV. A complete second-order perturbative QCD calculation was used. Λ MS = 110 ± 30 −55 +70 MeV is found.
