The gp-->etap reaction has been measured with the Crystal Ball and TAPS multiphoton spectrometers in the energy range from the production threshold of 707 MeV to 1.4 GeV (1.49 =< W >= 1.87 GeV). Bremsstrahlung photons produced by the 1.5-GeV electron beam of the Mainz Microtron MAMI-C and momentum analyzed by the Glasgow Tagging Spectrometer were used for the eta-meson production. Our accumulation of 3.8 x 10^6 gp-->etap-->3pi0p-->6gp events allows a detailed study of the reaction dynamics. The gp-->etap differential cross sections were determined for 120 energy bins and the full range of the production angles. Our data show a dip near W = 1680 MeV in the total cross section caused by a substantial dip in eta production at forward angles. The data are compared to predictions of previous SAID and MAID partial-wave analyses and to thelatest SAID and MAID fits that have included our data.

Measurements of the differential cross section for π − d elastic scattering in the backward angular region (−1 ⩽ cos θ cms ⩽ −0.98) are presented. These measurements were made at nine incident pion momenta P π ranging from 1.75 to 3.09 GeV/ c and at the largest values of q 2 [up to 7 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] ever reached experimentally; here q 2 is the momentum transfer squared. The differential cross section was found to decrease rapidly with increasing momentum d σ d Ω cms (180°) ∼ P −15.7 π , d σ d t ∼ (q 2 ) −12.8 . The data are compared with predictions of Regge and quark bag models.

Eta photoproduction on the proton for photon energies from 0.75-GeV to 1.95-GeV

Differential cross sections for γp→ηp have been measured with tagged real photons for incident photon energies from 0.75 to 1.95 GeV. Mesons were identified by missing mass reconstruction using kinematical information for protons scattered in the production process. The data provide the first extensive angular distribution measurements for the process above W=1.75  GeV. Comparison with preliminary results from a constituent quark model support the suggestion that a third S11 resonance with mass ∼1.8  GeV couples to the ηN channel.

Differential cross sections for the reaction $\gamma p \to p \pi^0$ have been measured with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) and a tagged photon beam with energies from 0.675 to 2.875 GeV. The results reported here possess greater accuracy in the absolute normalization than previous measurements. They disagree with recent CB-ELSA measurements for the process at forward scattering angles. Agreement with the SAID and MAID fits is found below 1 GeV. The present set of cross sections has been incorporated into the SAID database, and exploratory fits have been extended to 3 GeV. Resonance couplings have been extracted and compared to previous determinations.

The ep -> e'pi^+n reaction was studied in the first and second nucleon resonance regions in the 0.25 GeV^2 < Q^2 < 0.65 GeV^2 range using the CLAS detector at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. For the first time the absolute cross sections were measured covering nearly the full angular range in the hadronic center-of-mass frame. The structure functions sigma_TL, sigma_TT and the linear combination sigma_T+epsilon*sigma_L were extracted by fitting the phi-dependence of the measured cross sections, and were compared to the MAID and Sato-Lee models.

We report a new measurement of the differential cross section for π−p→π0n from pπ=649 to 752 MeV/c, which is around the opening of the η channel (685 MeV/c). Our data support the main features of the π−p charge-exchange differential cross sections generated by the SAID πN partial-wave analysis. The opening of the η channel has a clear effect on the shape of the excitation function for dσ(π−p→π0n), which is most noticeable in the backward direction.

Pion - deuteron elastic scattering at large angles from 0.90-GeV/c to 2.025-GeV/c

The differential cross section for the backward (120° ⩽ θ c.m.s. ⩽ 180°) pion-deuteron elastic scattering was measured at eight incident pion momenta from 0.90 to 2.025 GeV/ c . A distinctive change in the shape of the angular distribution is observed. At 0.9 GeV/ c the differential cross section decreases smoothly to 180° in accordance with predictions of multiple-scattering theory. At 1.31 GeV/ c , i.e. in the region of the hypothetical 1 I 6 dibaryon with a mass of 2.9 GeV, the differential cross section is practically independent of angle. At higher energies a sharp backward peak is clearly seen. Connections of our results with dibaryons and Regge asymptotic behaviour are discussed.
