The exclusive omega electroproduction off the proton was studied in a large kinematical domain above the nucleon resonance region and for the highest possible photon virtuality (Q2) with the 5.75 GeV beam at CEBAF and the CLAS spectrometer. Cross sections were measured up to large values of the four-momentum transfer (-t < 2.7 GeV2) to the proton. The contributions of the interference terms sigma_TT and sigma_TL to the cross sections, as well as an analysis of the omega spin density matrix, indicate that helicity is not conserved in this process. The t-channel pi0 exchange, or more generally the exchange of the associated Regge trajectory, seems to dominate the reaction gamma* p -> omega p, even for Q2 as large as 5 GeV2. Contributions of handbag diagrams, related to Generalized Parton Distributions in the nucleon, are therefore difficult to extract for this process. Remarkably, the high-t behaviour of the cross sections is nearly Q2-independent, which may be interpreted as a coupling of the photon to a point-like object in this kinematical limit.

As a partial result of an analysis of K + d interactions at 3 GeV/ c produced in the 81 cm Saclay bubble chamber, we present data on K + differential cross sections for the following reactions: K + d → K + d, K + d → K + pn, K + d → K 0 pp . A set of parameters describing the K + n elastic scattering has been obtained from a simulataneous fit, based on the Glauber model. to the three experimental differential cross sections and to the K + d total cross section, giving α n = 1.7 ± 0.5 GeV −2 for the slope α n of the differential cross section, and ρ n = −0.16 ± 0.3 for the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude. The D-wave function of the deuteron has been found to give a non-negligible contribution to the coherent reaction.

Results of two spark chamber experiments on A 2 − production in the reaction π − p → K − K S 0 (→ π + π − )p at 9.8 and 18.8 GeV are presented. Decay angular distributions and differential cross sections are given, and the energy dependence of the cross section σ [ π − p → A 2 − (→ K − K 0 )p] is compared with results from π − p → A 2 − (→ 3 π )p.

We present results on photoproduction of ϱ 0 and ω in the reactions γ p→ π + π − p and γ p→ π + π − π 0 p by tagged photons in the energy ranges 20 to 70 GeV and 20 to 45 GeV, respectively. The production of the ϱ 0 shows dominantly the characteristics of a diffractive process with respect to the E γ and t dependence of the cross section and the spin density matrix. The ϱ 0 photoproduction yields on average over the photon energy range a total cross section of σ ( γ p→ ϱ 0 p) = 9.4±0.1 μ b with an additional systematic error of ±1 μ b, and average slope parameters of the t distribution d σ /d t ≈exp(− b | t | + ct 2 ), of b =9.1±0.1 GeV −2 and c = 3.1 ±±0.2 GeV −4 . The shape of the ϱ 0 peak in the π + π − invariant spectra shows a skewing similar to that observed at lower energies. The photoproduction of ω is also consistent with a diffractive process and has a cross section of σ ( γ p→ ω p) = 1.2± 0.1 μ b with an additional systematic error of ±0.2 μ b. The average slope parameters of the t distribution are b =8.3 ± 1.3 GeV −2 and c = 3.4±2.6 GeV −4 .

This report is based on about 10 500 pp collision events produced in the 81-cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber at CERN. Cross-section values for the different identified final states and resonances are given. The isobars N*1238, N*1420, N*1518, N*1688, N*1920, and N*2360 were identified and their production cross-section values were found via a best-fit analysis of different invariant-mass histograms. About 70% of the isobars are connected with the quasi-two-body reactions pp→N*N and pp→N*N*. The reaction pp→nN*1238(pπ+) with a cross section of 3.25±0.16 mb was analyzed in terms of a peripheral absorption model, which was found to be in good agreement with the data. Various decay modes of the N*1518 and N*1688 isobars were observed and their branching ratios determined. The branching ratio of nπ+ to pπ+π− was found to be 0.77±0.45 for N*1518 and 0.67±0.40 for N*1688. The branching ratio of N*1238(pπ+)π− to pπ+π− of N*1688 was estimated to be 0.74±0.14. Pion production turned out to be mainly due to decay of isobars. Production of meson resonances turned out to be less important; the reaction pp→ppω0→ppπ+π−π0 was identified with a cross-section value of 0.11±0.02 mb. Finally, the production of neutral strange particles with a cross section of 0.45±0.04 mb is descussed. Strong formation of Y*1385 is observed.

Data are presented which firmly establish the existence of the double charge exchange reaction p p → Σ − Σ − at 3.6 GeV/ c . The forward cross section was found to be (5.9 ± 1.1) μb and the ratio of the “forbidden” to “allowed” forward cross section is R = σ( Σ − Σ − σ( Σ + Σ + ) = 0.09 ± 0.02 .

Forward A2+ in Two-dimensions Production in $\pi^+ p \to K^+ \bar{K}(s$)0 $p$ at 12.7-{GeV}/$c$

Approximately 350 A 2 + events have been observed in the reaction π + p → K + K S 0 p ( K S 0 → π + π − ) at an incident π + laboratory momentum of 12.7 GeV/ c . The events are distributed over a range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.01 ⩽ − t ⩽ 0.60 (GeV/ c ) 2 and K + K S 0 mass 1.11 ⩽ m K + K S 0 ⩽ 1.51 GeV . A Breit-Wigner fit to the mass spectrum yields a mass for the A 2 + , m A 2 + = 1.324 ± 0.005 GeV, and a width Γ 0 = 0.110 ± 0.018 GeV. We find a cross section σ ( π + p → A 2 + p) = 1.71 ± 0.30 μb referring to the above-mentioned mass and t range and A 2 + → K + K S O with K S 0 → π + π − . The spin-space density matrix in the Gottfried-Jackson frame is practically saturated by ϱ 11 ⋍ ϱ 1−1 = 1 2 suggesting natural parity exchanges only. There is a forward dip in the angular distribution consistent with dominance of s -channel net helicity flip amplitudes and ϱ and f Regge exchanges suffice to describe adequately our differential cross sections.

The reaction π − p → A − 2 p at 3.9 GeV/ c incident momentum is studied using data corresponding to the ϱ ° π − , ηπ − and K δ s K − decay modes of the A − 2 . Unnatural parity exchange is found to be important at this energy. The natural parity exchange component of the differential cross section exhibits structure at t ′ ≈ GeV 2 .
