Coincidence measurements of single-pion electroproduction near the delta(1236) resonance

Mistretta, C. ; Appel, J.A. ; Budnitz, R.J. ; et al.
Phys.Rev. 184 (1969) 1487-1507, 1969.
Inspire Record 62286 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26474

Differential cross sections for the reactions e−+p→e−+p+π0 and e−+p→e−+n+π+ have been measured near the Δ(1236) resonance at four-momentum transfers of 0.05, 0.13, 0.25, and 0.4 (GeV/c)2. A few measurements of the π+ angular distribution have been obtained at a four-momentum transfer of 0.6 (GeV/c)2. Cross sections for the π0 reaction are compared with dispersion-theory predictions at several pion-nucleon c.m. energies for each four-momentum transfer. A phenomenological analysis of the π0 results leads to the determination of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole partial-wave amplitudes and the γNΔ transition form factor. Evidence is found for the existence of a significant scaler-transverse interference term in the cross section, which is tentatively associated with the resonant scaler quadrupole interaction. Cross sections for π+ electroproduction are compared with dispersion theories using the pion form factor as a free parameter. The results suggest a form factor similar to that of the proton. A fit to the form-factor results, using the ρ-dominance model, requires mρ=560±80 MeV. The rms pion charge radius is estimated to be 〈r2〉12=0.86±0.14 F.

Measurement of proton Compton scattering at 6 gev and small momentum transfers

Buschhorn, G. ; Criegee, L. ; Dubal, L. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 33 (1970) 241-244, 1970.
Inspire Record 63064 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28544

Compton scattering on protons has been measured at a mean photon energy of 6 GeV and four-momentum transfers − t between 0.06 and 0.60 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The differential cross section shows a diffraction-like behaviour. The cross section extrapolated to t =0 is in fair agreement with the optical point. Discrepancies with the vector meson dominance model are pointed out.

Production of xi- and antixi+ particles in k+ p collisions at 12.7 gev/c

Stone, S.L. ; Berlinghieri, J.C. ; Bromberg, C. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 32 (1970) 515-518, 1970.
Inspire Record 63098 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28710

The cross section for the production of Ξ + particles in K + p interactions at 12.7 GeV/ c is 10 ± 3 μ b; the Ξ − production cross section is 2.5 ± 1.0 μ b; the upper limit on Ω − or Ω + production is 0.4 μb. The Ξ − are produced preferentially in the backward direction in the CM system while the Ξ + are produced mainly forward. The mass and lifetime of the Ξ + agree with the accepted values for the Ξ − hyperon.

Angular dependence of k-l k-s regenerative scattering for copper and lead nuclei at high energies

Foeth, H. ; Holder, M. ; Radermacher, E. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 31 (1970) 544-548, 1970.
Inspire Record 63172 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28805

Elastic and inelastic K L  S regenerative scattering on copper and lead nuclei have been observed up to a momentum transfer of 0.17 GeV/ c . The elastic differential cross-section is of a ”diffractive” type. It can be described successfully in terms of an optical model only assuming an appreciable neutron excess in the vicinity of the nuclear surface.

Elastic electron-proton scattering cross-sections measured by a coincidence technique

Goitein, M. ; Budnitz, R.J. ; Carroll, L. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 1 (1970) 2449-2476, 1970.
Inspire Record 61717 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25070

We have measured elastic electron-proton scattering cross sections in the range of four-momentum transfers from 7 F−2[0.27 (GeV/c)2] to 150 F−2 [5.84 (GeV/c)2] and at scattered electron angles of between 20° and 34° in the laboratory. The estimated errors in the cross sections range from ±2.1% at the lowest momentum transfer to ±9.6% at the highest. Both the scattered electron and the recoil proton were detected, resulting in an overdetermination of the kinematics. When the constraint of a coincident proton is removed, there is no significant change in the estimated cross sections.

Charge exchange and production of eta mesons and multiple neutral pions in pi- p reactions between 654 and 1247 mev/c

Bulos, F. ; Lanou, R.E. ; Piper, A.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev. 187 (1969) 1827-1844, 1969.
Inspire Record 62084 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.5293

An experiment designed to study the π−p total neutral cross section and its breakdown into several channels has been performed at eleven incident pion momenta ranging from 654 to 1247 MeV/c. Angular distributions for the charge exchange π0 and for η0 production are given in terms of Legendre-polynomial expansion coefficients. Forward and backward differential cross sections are presented for the charge-exchange channel and comparisons with recent dispersion-relation predictions for the forward cross section are made.

ASYMMETRY IN pi+ PHOTOPRODUCTION FROM A POLARIZED TARGET AT 5-GeV AND 16-GeV

Morehouse, Charles C. ; Borghini, M. ; Chamberlain, Owen ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 25 (1970) 835, 1970.
Inspire Record 60947 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3373

We have measured the asymmetry of the cross section for γp→π+n from a polarized target at 5 and 16 GeV. The range of four-momentum transfer was 0.02<~−t<~1.0 GeV2. The π+ mesons were produced in a polarized butanol target and detected with the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center 20−GeVc spectrometer. A sizable asymmetry was found at both 5 and 16 GeV, a typical value being -0.6 near −t=0.3 GeV2. A small amount of data on the asymmetry of other photoproduction processes was also obtained.
