The absolute cross sections for the production of 11 C by 1.59 GeV and 4.19 GeV α-particles incident on natural carbon have been measured to be 46.4 ± 1.3 mb and 42.5 ± 1.1 mb respectively. These results, together with data reported at other energies, indicate that the C(α, X) 11 C cross section becomes approximately constant at a value of about 43 mb for energies above 3 GeV (750 MeV/n). A similar energy dependence is exhibited by the C(p, X) 11 C reaction whose cross section has been measured previously over an extensive energy range. The C(α, X) 11 C cross sections are found to be in good agreement with predictions of a semi-empirical model developed to describe nuclear fragmentation.

Inspire Record 194990 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23837

We present results of a hybrid-bubble-chamber experiment examining the reaction π+p→π+pK+K− at an incident momentum of 11.46 GeV/c. The total cross section for this channel is determined to be 87.2±6.4 μb. A partial-wave analysis of the K+π+K− system reveals no unambiguous evidence of resonant activity, although mass enhancements are noted in the JP=0− κ¯K+ (S wave), JP=2− fπ (S wave), and JP=2−, K¯*0(892)K+ (P wave). This is the first published report of the relative phases of the waves seen in this reaction. We comment on the influence this channel may have on A1 and A3 production.

Inspire Record 191249 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23473

This Letter presents measurements of the nucleon structure function F2(x,Q2) based on the deep-inelastic scattering of 215- and 93-GeV muons in the iron multimuon spectrometer at Fermilab. With use of a lowest-order QCD calculation, a value of ΛLO=230±40(stat.)±80(syst.) MeV/c is found.

Weak Neutral Currents in e+ e- Collisions at s**(1/2)=29-GeV

Levi, M.E. ; Blocker, C.A. ; Strait, J. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 51 (1983) 1941, 1983.
Inspire Record 191845 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3281

The differential cross sections for lepton pair production in e+e− annihilation at 29 GeV have been measured and found to be in good agreement with the standard model of the electroweak interaction. With the assumption of e−μ−τ universality, the weak neutral-current couplings are determined to be ga2=0.23±0.05 and gv2=0.03±0.04.

A Search for Supersymmetric Electrons

Gladney, Larry D. ; Hollebeek, R.J. ; LeClaire, B. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 51 (1983) 2253, 1983.
Inspire Record 192285 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20505

A search for single electrons from the decay of singly produced scalar electrons has been made at the PEP storage ring at SLAC. No events of this type have been found in 123 pb−1 of data, resulting in a cross-section limit of less than 2.4×10−2 pb within the detector acceptance, and a 95%-confidence-level lower limit on the scalar-electron mass of 22.2 GeV/c2.

Inspire Record 196745 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16228

The inclusive production of charmed baryonsΛc+ by 40–70 GeV neutrons on carbon has been observed. The decays\(\Lambda _c^ + \to \bar K^0 p\pi ^ + \pi ^ -\) (130 ± 18 events) andΛc+→Λ0π+π+π− (57±14 events) have been detected. The mean value ofΛc+ mass is (2,268±6) MeV/c2. The invariant cross section forX>0.5 is described byE·d3σ/dp3∝ exp(−)bPT·(1−X)n withb=(2.5±0.6) (GeV/c)−1 andn=(1.5±0.5).

Phys.Rev.Lett. 52 (1984) 577, 1984.
Inspire Record 195994 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20439

The inclusive production cross sections and mean multiplicities of π±, K±, p, and p¯ in e+e− annihilation at a c.m. energy of 29 GeV have been measured with the time-projection chamber at PEP, using ionization energy loss to separate particle types. On average, 10.7±0.6 π±, 1.35±0.13 K±, and 0.60±0.08 p,p¯ are contained in an annihilation event. The fraction of pions among final-state particles decreases from over 95% at 0.3 GeV/c momentum to about 60% at high momentum; the kaon and proton fractions rise correspondingly.

EXPERIMENTAL SEARCH FOR NARROW RESONANCES IN THE REACTION PI- P ---> GAMMA GAMMA N AT 13-GEV/C

Phys.Lett.B 140 (1984) 145-148, 1984.
Inspire Record 206508 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30553

Using a double arm electromagnetic calorimeter we have searched for narrow states produced in the exclusive reaction π − p→γγn at 13 GeV/c. No enhancements were observed in the mass range 2.0–4.0 GeV/c 2 . For example, the 90% confidence limit on η c production is σ ( π − p→ η c n)× B ( η c → γγ ) < 44 pb.

Measurement of Very Large Transverse Momentum Jet Production at the CERN anti-p p Collider

The UA2 collaboration Bagnaia, P. ; Banner, M. ; Battiston, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 138 (1984) 430-440, 1984.
Inspire Record 199645 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30574

The production of very large transverse momentum hadron jets has been measured in the UA2 experiment at the CERN p p Collider for s = 540 GeV using a highly segmented calorimeter. The range of previously available cross sections for inclusive jet production is extended to p T = 150 GeV and the two-jet invariant mass distribution to m jj = 280 GeV with the largely increased data sample collected during the 1983 running period. The results are compared with the predictions of QCD models.
