Results onK0 and Λ production ine+e− annihilation at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV are presented. The shape of theK0 and Λ differential cross sections are very similar to each other and to those of π±,K± and\(p(\bar p)\). Scaling violations are observed forK0 production. We obtain a value for the probability to produce strange quark-antiquark pairs relative to that to produce up or down quark-antiquark pairs of 0.35±0.02±0.05. The value ofRh=σ(e+e-→hX)/σµµ is shown to rise steadily with c.m. energy for all particle species. At 34 GeV we find 1.48±0.05K0 and 0.31±0.03 Λ per event. We have searched for possible Λ polarization. The production ofK0's and Λ's in jets is examined as a function ofpT2 and rapidity and compared to that of all charged particles; the yields in two and three jets are also investigated. The reactions K − p→ π − Σ + (1385) and K − p→ π + Σ − (1385) are studied at 4.2 GeV c incident momentum using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment corresponding to ∼80 events/μb. The total and differential cross sections are presented. Amplitude analyses are performed and the complete Σ ± (1385) helicity spin density matrices are extracted. The results are compared with the predictions of the additive quark model and exchange degeneracy. A substantial cross section is observed for the reaction K − p→ π + Σ − (1385) in the forward direction, which implies exotic meson quantum numbers in the t -channel. One possible interpretation of this process provides an explanation for the small but significant violations of the additive quark model predictions observed in the reaction K − p→ π − Σ + (1385) at low four-momentum transfer. In the backward direction unnatural parity exchange is shown to give a larger contribution to K − p→ Σ − (1385) π + than natural parity exchange.

The helicity-dependent single $\pi^{0}$ photoproduction cross section on the deuteron and the angular dependence of the double polarisation observable $E$ for the quasi-free single $\pi^0$ production off the proton and the neutron have been measured for the first time from the threshold region up to the photon energy 1.4 GeV. The experiment was performed at the tagged photon facility of the MAMI accelerator and used a circularly polarised photon beam and longitudinally polarised deuteron target. The reaction products were detected using the large acceptance Crystal Ball/TAPS calorimeter, which covered 97% of the full solid angle. Comparing the cross section from the deuteron with the sum of free nucleon cross sections provides a quantitative estimate of the effects of the nuclear medium on pion production. In contrast, comparison of $E$ helicity asymmetry data from quasi-free protons off deuterium with data from a free proton target indicates that nuclear effects do not significantly affect this observable. As a consequence, it is deduced that the helicity asymmetry $E$ on a free neutron can be reliably extracted from measurements on a deuteron in quasi-free kinematics.

The reaction γp → K 0 Σ + has been measured with the SAPHIR detector at the electron stretcher ring ELSA. The total cross section rises up to a peak value of 1.1 μ b at a photon energy of 1.4 GeV. The differential cross sections dσ/dΩ are consistent with being flat throughout the measured energy range. The first measurement of the Σ + polarization in photon induced reactions was obtained.

K − p reactions have been studied at 13 different incident momenta between 1138 and 1434 MeV/ c . This interval corresponds to a mass of the K − p system varying from 1858 to 1993 MeV. About 300 000 photographs were taken in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a separated K − beam at the CERN proton-synchrotron. A total of about 44 000 events were analyzed, from which partial and differential cross sections were determined. Polarizations were obtained for the two-body reactions where the decay of the Λ or Σ hyperon allowed their measurement. Data for the two-body channels are presented here as well as for the main quasi-two-body reactions.

The angular distributions of the analyzing power for the pp → dπ + reaction have been measured at seven energies T p = 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 GeV. The data show a strong energy dependence with a structure centered at √ s π d = 2.66 GeV. Possible interpretations are presented in the frame of the OPE model and involving the question of the excitation of a dibaryon resonance.
