The differential cross sections for π−p elastic scattering over the angular range 155° to 177° in the center of mass have been measured at 33 incident-pion momenta in the range 600 to 1280 MeV/c. Angular distributions are presented. The extrapolated differential cross sections at 180° show considerable structure, in particular a dip near 1150 MeV/c. In general the near-180° cross sections do not agree with existing phase shift solutions above 1000 MeV/c

Measurement of the pi- p elastic scattering cross-section near 180 degrees between 600 and 1280 mev/c

Differential cross sections for π−p elastic scattering over the angular range 155° to 177° in the center-of-mass system have been measured at 33 incident pion momenta in the range 600 to 1280 MeV/c. The experiment, which was performed at the Bevatron at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, employed a liquid hydrogen target, a double-arm spectrometer, and standard counter techniques to detect the elastic events. The data from this experiment are compared to all other published data in this momentum region. The over-all agreement is good. The data of this experiment are also compared with the results of the recent phase-shift analysis by Almehed and Lovelace. In the momentum region between 700 and 900 MeV/c, the slope of the backward angular distribution goes rapidly through zero from negative to positive, and the magnitude of the differential cross section falls by more than a factor of 10. Momentum-dependent structure is seen in the extrapolated differential cross sections at 180°. Two prominent dips in the 180° differential cross sections appear at 880 and 1150 MeV/c. This structure is discussed in terms of a direct-channel resonance model that assumes only resonant partial waves are contributing to the cross sections for large scattering angles.

The total and differential cross sections of the K¯0p→Λπ+ and K¯0p→∑0π+ reactions have been measured in the centre-of-mass energy range of l.5 to 2.3 GeV. Using our K¯0p→∑0π+ data as well as available cross-section data of isospin related channels, we have calculated the total I=0K¯N→∑π cross section as function of energy. The results are compared with predictions obtained from K¯N phase-shift analyses.

Photoproduction of Negative Pions on a Polarized Neutron Target in the Resonance Region

At the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron the first measurements of the target asymmetry for the reaction γ + n ↑ → π − + p have been performed. The negative pions were detected in a magnetic spectrometer at a constant pion c.m. angle of 40° and photon energies between 0.45 GeV and 2.0 GeV. Deuterated butanol was used as target material. The polarization of the deuterons was about 16%. The results show a significant difference from the previously measured π + asymmetry.

K0(L) p --> K0(s) p Scattering in the 1.5-GeV-2.3-GeV Energy Region

The K L o p → K S o p differential and total cross-section and the forward scattering amplitude phase φ have been measured in the 1.5 to 2.3 GeV centre of mass energy range. The data is compared with predictions based on recent K ± N phase shift solutions. Best agreement is found for K + N solutions which do not warrant an I=0 P 1 2 exotic Z ∗ o (1800) baryon.

Photoproduction of Neutral Pions at Backward Angles in the Resonance Region and the $\eta$ - Cusp

At the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron we have measured the differential cross section of the reaction γp→π0p at a pion CM angle of 170° and at photon energiesKγ between 0.6 and 1.8 GeV. In comparison to previous measurements the accuracy of the data was improved substantially. For the first time in neutral pion photoproduction a cusp structure at the η-threshold has been confirmed [1].

We present the first data on photon-photon annihilation into hadrons for CM energies > 1 GeV obtained with the detector PLUTO at the e + e − storage ring PETRA. Cross sections are extracted using an inelastic eγ scattering formalism. The results are compared to expectations from Regge-like models.
