Phys.Rev.D 50 (1994) 5550-5561, 1994.
Inspire Record 359412 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42528

We report a measurement of the proton-antiproton total cross section σT at c.m.s. energies √s =546 and 1800 GeV. Using the luminosity-independent method, we find σT=61.26±0.93 mb at √s =546 GeV and 80.03±2.24 mb at √s =1800 GeV. In this energy range, the ratio σel/σT increases from 0.210±0.002 to 0.246±0.004.

Measurement of the photon structure function F2 (gamma) in the reaction e+ e- ---> e+ e- + hadrons at LEP

Z.Phys.C 61 (1994) 199-208, 1994.

We present measurements of the hadronic photon structure functionF2γ(x), in twoQ2 ranges with mean values of 5.9 GeV2 and 14.7 GeV2. The data were taken by the OPAL experiment at LEP, with\(\sqrt s\) close to theZ0 mass and correspond to an integratede+e− luminosity of 44.8 pb−1. In the context of a QCD-based model we find the quark transverse momentum cutoff separating the vector meson dominance (VMD) and perturbative QCD regions to be 0.27±0.10 GeV. We confirm that there is a significant pointlike component of the photon when the probe photon hasQ2>4 GeV2. Our measurements extend to lower values ofx than any previous experiment, and no increase ofF2γ(x) is observed.

Production of Lambda and Lambda anti-Lambda correlations in the hadronic decays of the Z0

The DELPHI collaboration Abreu, P. ; Adam, W. ; Adye, T. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 318 (1993) 249-262, 1993.
Inspire Record 360638 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48369

An analysis of the production of the Λ baryon in the hadronic decays of the Z 0 is presented, based on about 993K multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. The differencial cross section of the Λ and the correlations between Λ and Λ produced in the same event are compared to current models, based both on string fragmentation and on cluster decay. The predictions of the string fragmentation model are found to give satisfactory agreements with the data, clearly better than those of the cluster model.

Measurements of polarized-neutron-polarized-proton scattering: Implications for the triton binding energy

Wilburn, W.S. ; Gould, C.R. ; Haase, D.G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 71 (1993) 1982-1985, 1993.
Inspire Record 370854 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19731

Measurements have been made of ΔσT for polarized neutrons incident on a polarized-proton target from 3.65 to 11.60 MeV. In the energy range near 10 MeV, ΔσT is very sensitive to the nucleon-nucleon tensor interaction. Comparison of the data to potential-model predictions indicate that the tensor interaction is weak, resulting in values of the 3S1−3D1 mixing parameter ε1 which are smaller than predicted by any nucleon-nucleon potential model. A smaller tensor force will bring the predictions of local potential models for the triton binding energy into closer agreement with the experimental value.

Scaling violations of the proton structure function f2 at small x

The H1 collaboration Abt, I. ; Ahmed, T. ; Andreev, V. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 321 (1994) 161-167, 1994.
Inspire Record 360235 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45140

An analysis is presented of scaling violations of the proton structure function F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) measured with the H1 detector at HERA in the range of Bjorken x values between x = 3 × 10 −4 and 10 −2 for four-momentum transfers Q > 2 larger than 8.7 GeV 2 . The structure function F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) is observed to rise linearly with ln Q 2 . Under the assumption that the observed scaling violations at small x ⩽ 0.01 are described correctly by perturbative QCD, an estimate is obtained of the gluon distribution function G ( x , Q 0 2 ) at Q 2 2 = 20 GeV 2 .

Observation of D(s)** (2536) meson production by neutrinos in BEBC

Neutrino interactions in BEBC produce theDS** (2536) charmed strange meson. The mass of this state is 2534.2±1.2 MeV. The production rate is 0.011±0.005 per neutrino charged current interaction at a mean neutrino energy of 61 GeV. An earlier claim for another\(c\bar s\) bound state near 2565 MeV, produced in neutrino interactions, is not supported.

A Precise measurement of the weak mixing angle in neutrino nucleon scattering

Phys.Rev.Lett. 72 (1994) 3452-3455, 1994.
Inspire Record 360411 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37276

We report a precise measurement of the weak mixing angle from the ratio of neutral current to charged current inclusive cross-sections in deep-inelastic neutrino-nucleon scattering. The data were gathered at the CCFR neutrino detector in the Fermilab quadrupole-triplet neutrino beam, with neutrino energies up to 600 GeV. Using the on-shell definition, ${\rm sin ~2\theta_W} \equiv 1 - \frac{{\rm M_W} ~2}{{\rm M_Z} ~2}$, we obtain ${\rm sin ~2\theta_W} = 0.2218 \pm 0.0025 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.0036 ({\rm exp.\: syst.}) \pm 0.0040 ({\rm model})$.

Search for excited quarks in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

Phys.Rev.Lett. 72 (1994) 3004-3008, 1994.
Inspire Record 360332 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42507

If quarks are composite particles then excited states are expected. We have searched in pp¯ collisions for excited quarks (q*) which decay to common quarks by emitting a W boson (q*→qW) or a photon (q*→qγ). The simplest model of excited quarks has been excluded for mass M*<540 GeV/c2 at 95% confidence level.
