Central Collisions of 800-{GeV} Protons With Ag / Br Nuclei in Nuclear Emulsion

Central collisions of 800-GeV protons with the heavy components of nuclear emulsion, Ag107 and Br80, have been investigated to determine the characteristics of small-impact-parameter collisions and, by comparison with the analysis of inclusive proton-emulsion inelastic interactions and inelastic proton-nucleon collisions, to study the dependence of the interaction process on the mean number of intranuclear collisions 〈ν〉. The data are also compared with the results obtained in proton-emulsion collisions, both central and inclusive, at 200 GeV. The variations in the secondary-particle multiplicities and the normalized pseudorapidity density correlate with 〈ν〉 and demonstrate that proton-nucleus interactions, both central and inclusive, can be described adequately by the incoherent superposition of proton-nucleon collisions.

Charged Particle Multiplicity and Angular Distributions in Proton Emulsion Interactions at 800-{GeV}

Phys.Rev.D 35 (1987) 3537-3540, 1987.

The interaction of 800-GeV protons in nuclear emulsion has been investigated. The multiplicities and angular distributions of charged particles emitted by both the projectile and the target nucleus have been measured for 1718 inelastic events and are compared with the data obtained in proton-emulsion collisions at 67, 200, and 400 GeV. The target excitation is found to be independent of energy while the production of secondary particles continues to increase with incident proton energy.

Correlations Among Particles Produced in Proton Interactions With Emulsion Nuclei at 800-{GeV}

Barbier, L.M. ; Jones, W.V. ; Wefel, J.P. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 37 (1988) 1113, 1988.
Inspire Record 256580 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3823

Correlations among the produced particles in interactions of 800-GeV protons with nuclei in photographic emulsion provide evidence for nonindependent production of the secondary particles. Assuming particle production in clusters, the analysis implies an average multiplicity of about 3 charged particles per cluster.

Energy dependence of the charged multiplicity in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

JHEP 06 (2008) 061, 2008.
Inspire Record 782120 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45319

The charged multiplicity distributions and the mean charged multiplicity have been investigated in inclusive neutral current deep inelastic $ep$ scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 38.6 pb$^{-1}$. The measurements were performed in the current region of the Breit frame, as well as in the current fragmentation region of the hadronic centre-of-mass frame. The KNO-scaling properties of the data were investigated and the energy dependence was studied using different energy scales. The data are compared to results obtained in $\epem$ collisions and to previous DIS measurements as well as to leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo predictions.

Hadron Transverse Momentum Distributions in Muon Deep Inelastic Scattering at 160 GeV/$c$

The COMPASS collaboration Adolph, C. ; Alekseev, M.G. ; Alexakhin, V.Yu. ; et al.
Eur.Phys.J.C 73 (2013) 2531, 2013.
Inspire Record 1236358 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.61432

Multiplicities of charged hadrons produced in deep inelastic muon scattering off a $^6$LiD target have been measured as a function of the DIS variables $x_{Bj}$, $Q^2$, $W^2$ and the final state hadron variables $p_T$ and $z$. The $p_T^2$ distributions are fitted with a single exponential function at low values of $p_T^2$ to determine the dependence of $\langle p_T^2 \rangle$ on $x_{Bj}$, $Q^2$, $W^2$ and $z$. The $z$-dependence of $\langle p_T^2 \rangle$ is shown to be a potential tool to extract the average intrinsic transverse momentum squared of partons, $\langle k_{\perp}^2 \rangle$, as a function of $x_{Bj}$ and $Q^2$ in a leading order QCD parton model.
