We report on the measurement of asymmetries in the single-pion photoproduction reactions γp→nπ+, γp→pπ0, and γn→pπ−, induced by linearly polarized photons of energies from 610 to 940 MeV. The experiment was carried out using the back-scattered laser beam and the 82-in. dubble chamber at SLAC. We compare the new data with predictions from a partial-wave analysis.

Observation of a Diffraction Minimum in the Proton Proton Elastic Scattering at the ISR

Böhm, A. ; Bozzo, M. ; Ellis, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 49 (1974) 491-496, 1974.
Inspire Record 89421 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27962

We have investigated the pp elastic scattering at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR). We report results for centre-of-mass scattering angles between 30 and 100 mrad and for centre-of-mass energies of 23.5,30.7, 44.9 and 53 GeV. The elastic differential cross-section shows a diffraction-like shape with a sharp minimum at about t = −1.4 GeV 2 .

A Study of the Reaction anti-p n --> anti-p p pi- at 14.6-GeV/c

Brucker, E.B. ; Koller, E.L. ; Raths, O. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 10 (1974) 1373, 1974.
Inspire Record 89251 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25045

From a 98000-photograph exposure of the BNL 80-in. deuterium-filled chamber to a 14.6-GeV/c p¯ beam we have extracted those events that fit the channel p¯n→p¯pπ−. The cross section for this channel is measured to be 730 ± 50 μb. The cross section for the reaction p¯n→Δ¯−−(1238)p is determined to be 130 ± 30 μb. Evidence for target dissociation is presented. A comparison with the reaction π−n→π−pπ− at the same energy indicates agreement with factorization.

Production of pi0 Mesons in K+ p Interactions at 8.2-GeV/c

Inspire Record 90280 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.51679

Experimental results on $\pi^0$ production in $K^+$p interactions at 8.2 GeV/$c$ incident momentum are presented. Average $\pi^0$ multiplicities for given prong numbers are evaluated. They are consistent both with the corresponding results for pp interactions at 12 GeV/$c$ chosen for comparison because they have the same average prong number) and with a model where total multiplicity distributions are calculated from the Czyżewski--Rybicki formula and the charge branching ratios from the statistical model. Some averages over the $\pi^0$ momentum distribution are also evaluated. In particular it is found that $\pi^0$-s produced in two prong interactions go predominantly forward.

Negative Pion Production in Proton Proton Interactions at 69-GeV/c

Inspire Record 89197 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27949

Inclusive spectra of π − production for pp interactions are discussed at 69 GeV/ c both in the central and in the fragmentation region and are compared to data at lower and higher energies. The p T dependence of the invariant structure function is also analysed.

Multiplicities, topological cross-sections, and single particle inclusive distributions from p p interactions at 12-GeV/c and 24-GeV/c

Nucl.Phys.B 69 (1974) 454-492, 1974.
Inspire Record 94379 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32358

Results on multiplicities, topological cross sections, total particle production cross sections, and correlations between charged particle and π 0 production are presented for pp interactions at 12 and 24 GeV/ c incident laboratory momentum. Inclusive production of π ± , K s 0 , p , Λ, Σ ± and Λ is studied; particle spectra are shown in single and double differential form and are compared, in different kinematic regions, with data obtained at other incident momenta and with other beam particles.

Hadron Production by electron-Positron Annihilation at 5-GeV Center-Of-Mass Energy

Tarnopolsky, G. ; Eshelman, J. ; Law, M.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 32 (1974) 432-435, 1974.
Inspire Record 745 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21302

We have measured the cross section σ for electron - positron annihilation into three or more hadrons, with at least two charged particles in the final state, at 5 GeV center-of-mass energy. We find a model-independent lower limit of σ>9.1±1.0nb; assuming invariant phase-space production of pions, we calculate the detection efficiency of our detector to be (45 ± 11)%, yielding a cross section σ=21±5nb. The average charged hadron multiplicity is found to be n¯=4.3±0.6.

Electron-Positron Elastic Scattering at 5-GeV Center-Of-Mass Energy

Phys.Rev.Lett. 32 (1974) 483, 1974.
Inspire Record 744 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21306

We have measured the cross section, the distribution of scattering angles, and the distribution of noncoplanarity angles for electron-positron elastic scattering at 5 GeV c. m. energy. An analysis based on 230 events with scattering angles between 50 and 130° yields a ratio of the experimental to theoretical quantum-electrodynamic cross section of 1.03 ± 0.09. The scattering-angle and noncoplanarity-angle distributions are also found to be in excellent agreement with the quantum-electrodynamic predictions.

Measurement of the pi- p ---> n pi0 and pi- p ---> n gamma differential cross-sections near the resonance p(11)(1460)

Cheze, J.B. ; Codreanu, N. ; Hamel, J.L. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 72 (1974) 365-375, 1974.
Inspire Record 94658 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.7810

The π − p→n γ and π − p→n π ° differential cross sections have been measured for −0.9< cos θ ∗ <−0.45 (θ ∗ c.m. scattering angle) at 475 MeV/ c and 550 MeV/ c incident momenta. The π − p→n γ measurement is a good check of the detailed balance principle in the electromagnetic interactions of hadrons at these energies and is in good agreement with Walker's analysis. On the other hand the π − p→ π °n extrapolated values of 180° allows one to verify that the phases of the A 1 2 and A 3 2 amplitudes are equal.

Electroproduction of eta-mesons at the s(11)(1535) resonance

Beck, U. ; Becks, K.H. ; Burkert, V. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 51 (1974) 103-105, 1974.
Inspire Record 95168 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27938

The reaction e − + p → e − + p + η has been studied in the region of the S 11 (1535)-resonance by detecting the recoil proton in coincidence with the scattered electron. The reaction has been observed at three four-momentum transfers of the virtual photon: q 2 = 0.2, 0.28 and 0.4 (GeV/ c ). First results of the differential cross section measurements are given and compared with quark model calculations.
