We have measured the differential cross section for p¯p and pp elastic scattering at s=53 GeV in the interval 0.5<|t|<4.0 (GeV/c)2 at the CERN intersecting storage rings using the split-field magnet detector. The shape of the differential cross section differs significantly between p¯p and pp scattering in the region 1.1<|t|<1.5 (GeV/c)2, with p¯p data showing a less pronounced dip structure than pp data.

201 GeV/c Proton Proton Elastic Scattering at Large Momentum Transfer

Inspire Record 120624 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20930

Proton-proton elastic scattering has been measured in the region 4.9<|t|<12.1 GeV2 at a beam momentum of 201 GeV/c. If the form exp(At) is fitted to the data, the exponent A gradually changes from 1.5 to 0.9 GeV−2 over our t range. The data are consistent with the form exp(−6.6p⊥). A comparison with intersecting storage ring results shows that in this kinematical region the slopes are about the same, but dσdt at fixed t is still dropping with energy.

Large Angle Proton Proton Elastic Scattering at 201-{GeV}/$c$ and 400-{GeV}/$c$

Phys.Rev.D 23 (1981) 33, 1981.
Inspire Record 154999 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24141

Proton-proton elastic scattering using 201- and 400-GeV/c extracted beams at Fermilab has been measured in the region 4.9<−t<14.4 GeV2. Contrary to predictions of diffraction models, there is no sign of a second dip or "break," and the slope A in the fit exp(At) is smaller than predicted. It drops from 1.5 to 0.8 GeV−2 over our t range. The shape of the t distribution can be fitted by the power law dσdt∝t−8.4 which is close to a quantum-chromodynamics (QCD) prediction of t−8. At fixed t the 201-GeV/c cross sections are about 2.3 times those at 400 GeV/c which is compatible with the QCD and constituent-interchange-model prediction that dσdt∝s−10 at fixed ts.

400 GeV/c pp Elastic Scattering: Energy and Angle Dependence at High Momentum Transfer

Phys.Rev.Lett. 41 (1978) 924, 1978.
Inspire Record 131549 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20819

Proton-proton elastic scattering at 400 GeV/c has been measured in the region 5.4<−t<14.4 GeV2 with no sign of a second dip or "break." If the data are fitted by exp(At), the slope A decreases from 1.5±0.1 to 0.7±0.2 GeV−2 over the range. At fixed t the 400-GeV/c cross sections are about 0.6 times those at 200 GeV/c in this t range. At fixed θc.m.=15°, dσdt∝s−n where n=9.7±0.3.

Soft $\pi^- p$ and $p p$ Elastic Scattering in the Energy Range 30-{GeV} to 345-{GeV}

Nucl.Phys.B 217 (1983) 285-335, 1983.
Inspire Record 182455 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.7556

Differential cross sections for π − p and pp elastic scattering have been measured at incident momenta ranging from 30 to 345 GeV and in the t range 0.002 (GeV/ c ) 2 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 0.04 (GeV/ c ) 2 . From the analysis of the data, the ratio ϱ ( t = 0) of the real to the imaginary parts of the forward scattering amplitude was determined together with the logarithmic slope b of the diffraction cone.

We have obtained a sample of 20 465 (2201) events in the channel pp→ ( Λ 0 K + )p at 50 (30) GeV/ c incident momentum with Geneva-Lausanne spectrometer at the CERN SPS. In this analysis we investigate: 1. (i) the production of N ∗ (I = 1 2 ) states in the mass region 1.6 ⩽ M ( Λ 0 K + ) ⩽ 2.6 GeV and momentum transfer 0.06 ⩽ | t | 1.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 , by studing the amplitudes and phases from a moment analysis of the decay angular distribution; 2. (ii) the contribution of the K-exchange Deck model for M ( Λ 0 K + < 2.22 GeV; 3. (iii) the double Regge exchange phenomenology for s Λ 0 K + > 5 GeV 2 and s Λ 0 K + p > 5 GeV 2 .

Evidence for Pomeron Single Quark Interactions in Proton Diffraction at the {ISR}

Measurements are presented of two exclusive diffractive reactions, pp → (Λ 0 φ 0 K + ) p and pp → (Λ 0 Λ 0 p)p , at √ s = 63 GeV . Pronounced correlations with the beam direction are observed (in the rest frame of the forward-going bracketed system) for those outgoing particles which contain the beam valence quarks. In each case there is a forward-Λ 0 in correlation with a backward K + or p, respectively. No such behavior is seen for the particles which do not contain beam valence quarks (φ 0 and Λ 0 , respectively) . Interpreted as examples of pomeron-proton scattering, these results constitute evidence that, for these final states, the pomeron interacts with a single valence quark and apparently back-scatters it. The subsequent hadronization leads to a longitudinal event structure.

In diffractive photoproduction ofηπ+π−, the two-body substatesηρ0 andA2π are found to contribute significantly to the cross-section forηπ+π− masses below 2.4 GeV. From a spin-parity analysis the branching ratio, ρ′(1600)→ηρ/ρ′(1600)→, is determined to be <0.02 at the 68.3% confidence level. TheA2π component shows an enhancement around 1.7 GeV. The spin-parity analysis indicates a probable contribution to this signal from exclusive photoproduction of theg(1690).
