A high-statistics measurement is presented of the cross section for the process e+e−→τ+τ− at s=29 GeV from the MAC detector at PEP. A fit to the angular distribution of our sample of 10 153 events with |cosθ|<0.9 gives an asymmetry Aττ=−0.055±0.012±0.005 from which we find the product of electron and tau axial-vector weak neutral couplings gAegAτ=0.22±0.05.

Using the Mark-J detector at the high-energy e+e− collider PETRA, we compare the data from hadron production with the complete second-order QCD calculation over the energy region 22 to 46.78 GeV. We determine the QCD parameter Λ=100±30−45+60 MeV which yields the strong-coupling constant αs=0.12±0.02 for s=44 GeV.

PROMPT MUON PRODUCTION IN e+ e- ANNIHILATIONS AT 29-GeV

Phys.Rev.D 31 (1985) 2719, 1985.

We have studied the production of prompt muons in hadronic events from e+e− annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV with the PEP4-TPC (Time Projection Chamber) detector. The muon p and pt distributions are well described by a combination of bottom- and charm-quark decays, with fitted semimuonic branching fractions of (15.2±1.9±1.2)% and (6.9±1.1±1.1)%, respectively. The muon spectra imply hard fragmentation functions for both b and c quarks, with 〈z(b quark)〉=0.80±0.05±0.05 and 〈z(c quark)〉=0.60±0.06±0.04. We derive neutral-current axial-vector couplings of a(b quark)=-0.9±1.1±0.3 and a(c quark)=1.5±1.5±0.5 from the forward-backward asymmetries.

Diffraction Dissociation of Photons on Hydrogen

We report results from a measurement of the inclusive diffraction dissociation of photons on hydrogen, γp→Xp, in the range 754 GeV2. We test the finite-mass sum rule and, by comparing γp with π−p data obtained in the same apparatus, we test factorization.

MEASUREMENT OF N P AND P P ASYMMETRY WITH AN ACCELERATED POLARIZED DEUTERON BEAM FROM 725-MEV TO 1000-MEV PER NUCLEON

Nucl.Phys.A 444 (1985) 597-610, 1985.
Inspire Record 222367 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37022

The accelerated polarized deuteron beam of Saturn II was used to measure the analyzing power for np elastic scattering at five energies. The left-right asymmetries ε = (L + R)/(L + R) for np and for pp elastic scattering were measured simultaneously by CH 2 − carbon subtraction using one of the beam-line polarimeters. The analyzing power A 00 n 0 (np) is given by the ratio ε np d / ε pp d multiplied by the known analyzing power for pp elastic scattering. Experimental evidence is consistent with the underlying assumption that in the kinetmatic region of the experiment the ratio of the np to pp analyzing powers for scattering of quasifree nucleons in deuterons is the same as for scattering of free neutrons and protons, respectively.

DIFFERENTIAL CROSS-SECTIONS FOR PROTON COMPTON SCATTERING AT INCIDENT PHOTON ENERGIES BETWEEN 900-MeV AND 1150-MEV

Ishii, T. ; Egawa, K. ; Imanishi, A. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 254 (1985) 458-474, 1985.
Inspire Record 218918 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33788

Differential cross sections of proton Compton scattering have been measured in the angular range between 50° and 130° at incident photon energies from 900 MeV to 1150 MeV. A sharp dip in the angular distribution found by a Bonn group at 110° in the photon energy region around 900 MeV is not observed in the present measurement. A new dip-bump structure is found at photon energies above 1050 MeV, which is similar to that for pion-nucleon scattering.

A STRONG ENERGY DEPENDENCE OF THE ANALYZING POWER IN THE P P ---> D PI+ REACTION AND THE QUESTION OF AN ISOVECTOR DIBARYON RESONANCE

Phys.Lett.B 162 (1985) 77-80, 1985.
Inspire Record 221962 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30330

The angular distributions of the analyzing power for the pp → dπ + reaction have been measured at seven energies T p = 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 GeV. The data show a strong energy dependence with a structure centered at √ s π d = 2.66 GeV. Possible interpretations are presented in the frame of the OPE model and involving the question of the excitation of a dibaryon resonance.

Search for narrow structure in proton‐antiproton annihilation cross sections from 1900 to 1960 MeV

Lowenstein, D.I. ; Pealsee, D.C. ; Miller, R.J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 158 (1985) 505-510, 1985.
Inspire Record 221435 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30389

The p̄p annihilation cross section has been measured with good resolution (∼2 MeV rms) in the mass range 1900–1960 MeV. No narrow structures are seen, the 90% confidence level upper limit being 8–12 mb‐MeV for the integrated area of a resonance in this mass range. However, we do not rule out a very narrow bump‐dip structure seen in an earlier experiment in the 1935–1941 MeV mass interval. The data also do not support the existence of a broad structure previously reported at 1937 MeV.

Fit of form A + B/D gives A = 8.5 +- 2.5mb and B = 40.7 +- 1.3mb in the mass range 1900 to 1960 MeV.

FRAGMENTATION INTO STRANGE PARTICLES IN HIGH-ENERGY NEUTRINO P, neutrino N, ANTI-NEUTRINO P AND ANTI-NEUTRINO N INTERACTIONS

Inspire Record 218756 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30415

The fragmentation of the hadronic system into Λ, Σ(1385), K ) and K ∗ (892) in deep-inelastic charged-current interactions of high energy neutrinos and antineutrinos with proton and neutron is analyzed. The results obtained for the production of these particles from the various initial states are compared with each other and with the predictions of the Lund fragmentation model. This comparison shows that a spectator diquark does not fragment as a whole in a fraction of the interactions. The role of the sea quarks in the baryon formation process is underlined. Strange vector and pseudoscalar mesons are likely to be produced at similar rates.
