INCLUSIVE SIGMA+- (1385) PRODUCTION IN K- P INTERACTIONS AT 110-GEV/C

Results are presented on inclusive production of ∑+(1385) and ∑−(1385) inK−p interactions at 110 GeV/c. The inclusive and topological cross sections have been estimated and compared with published results at lower energies. The inclusive cross section of ∑+(1385) seems to decrease with c.m. energy, while that of the ∑−(1385) is nearly constant. The mean charged multiplicity associate to Σ(1385) increases with c.m. energy. The ∑+(1385) is produced both in the target fragmentation region and in the central region where ∑−(1385) is predominantly produced in the central region. Approximately 16% of the Λ's stem from the decay of ∑±(1385) and the kinematic distributions of these Λ's are not very different from the inclusive Λ's.

Deuteron Photodisintegration Total Cross-section Between 15-{MeV} and 75-{MeV}

The total cross section for deuteron photodisintegration has been measured in the γ-ray energy range between 15 and 75 MeV, by use of the monochromatic LADON photon beam of the Frascati National Laboratories and detection of the proton. The results are in substantial agreement with the standard theory and do not provide evidence for contributions of quark degrees of freedom.

$\Lambda$ Production in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilations at 29-{GeV}: A Comparison With Lund Model Predictions

This paper presents measurements of the inclusive production cross sections of Λ baryons in e+e− annihilations at s=29 GeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 256 pb−1 collected with the High-Resolution Spectrometer at the SLAC storage ring PEP. Comparisons are made to the predictions of the Lund model. The data are well described with use of a strange-diquark suppression parameter, (usud)(sd), of 0.89 ± 0.10−0.16+0.56, and the measured Λc→Λ+X branching ratio of (23 ± 10)%.

Production of the F0 Meson in the Double Pomeron Exchange Reaction $p p \to p p \pi^+ \pi^-$ at $\sqrt{s}=62$-{GeV}

Data are presented for the exclusive reaction pp → pp π+ π− at\(\sqrt s= 62GeV\) with two leading protons at large Feynman-x and a centrally produced π+;π− system. In this kinematical configuration one expects a substantial contribution from Double Pomeron Exchange, which is a potential source of glueballs. The experiment was performed at the CERN ISR using the Split Field Magnet spectrometer. In the mass range between 1,000 and 1,700 MeV/c2 the invariant mass distribution for the central π+;π− system exhibits a very significant signal for thef0(1270) and no other obvious resonant states.

A Comparison of the Energy Distributions of Hadrons Produced in Deep Inelastic Scattering of Muons on Hydrogen and Deuterium Targets

The energy distribution of inclusive hadrons produced by 280 GeV muons on hydrogen and deuterium targets are compared. The sum of the scaled energy distributions of the positive and negative hadrons is found to be the same for the two targets. The difference of these distributions is observed to factorise inx andz and thez-dependence is found to be independent of the target type and have a form (1−z)2.1±0.2. The net charge of the hadronic jet is positive at highx even in the case when the scattering takes place on the neutron. These results are in good agreement with the expectations of the Quark Parton Model.

Measurement of Spin Spin Correlation Parameters in the $p p$ System at 11.75-{GeV}/$c$

Measurements of Double and Triple Spin Parameters in $P P$ Elastic Scattering Between 440-{GeV} and 560-{MeV}

The polarization parameter Pn000, the two-spin parameters Dn0n0, Kn00n, Ds0s0, Ds0k0, and the three-spin parameters Ms0sn and Ms0kn have been measured for pp elastic scattering between 34° and 118° center-of-mass scattering angle at six different incident kinetic energies 447, 473, 497, 517, 539, and 560 MeV. The experiment was performed at SIN using a polarized proton beam, a polarized butanol target, and a polarimeter for the measurement of the polarization of the scattered proton.

Observation of a Dependence in Koba-nielsen-olesen Scaling Distributions for High-energy Hadron Nucleus Interactions

Experimental multiplicity distributions scaled in the Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) form for hadron-nucleus interactions show clear deviations from the scaling distribution observed for hadron-hadron interactions. The deviations become larger as A increases. Our data can be described by a model which invokes the hypothesis that KNO scaling is valid for hadron-nucleus interactions at a fixed impact parameter. In this model, the A dependence of the multiplicity distributions results from the convolution of scatterings at various impact parameters.

Search for $D^*$ Production in Pion Nucleon Interactions

Results are presented of a measurement of the production of D*+ (D*−) in 250-GeV/c π−N interactions. We observe 2.1±7.8 events corresponding to a charge-D* cross section σ(D*) of 0.4±1.5 μb/nucleon. When averaged with our previous measurement made at 200 GeV/c, the result is σ(D*)=2.3±1.0 μb/nucleon with (dσ/dx)‖x=0=4.6±2.0 μb.
