Inclusive Production of Meson Resonances in $K^- p$ Interactions at 110-{GeV}/$c$

Total and differential cross sections ofK*−(890),K*−(890),$\bar K^{ * 0} $(890),K*0(890),$\bar K^{ * 0} $(1430) andϱ0(770) produced inK−p interactions at 110 GeV/c are presented. The cross sections of the neutral resonances show a smooth increase with energy from 10 to 110 GeV/c incident momentum. For theK*+(890) and theK*0(890), i.e. the resonances with strangenessS=+1, this rise is quite significant: their cross sections practically double between 32 GeV/c and 110 GeV/c incidentK− momentum. About 50% of the neutral kaons and 30% of charged pions produced inK−p interactions at our energy are found to be decay products of the resonances considered.

We present results on the jet structure observed in multihadronic events produced by e+e− annihilation in the Mark I magnetic detector at SPEAR. The evidence for jet structure and the jet-axis angular distribution are reported. We give inclusive distributions of the hadrons in Feynman x, rapidity, and transverse momentum relative to the jet axis.

Inclusive Production of $\gamma$, Neutral $K$, $\Lambda^0$ and $\bar{\Lambda}^0$ in $K^- p$ Interactions at 110-{GeV}/$c$

Results on inclusive production of γ,K n , Λ 0 and Λ 0 in K − p interactions at 110 GeV/ c are presented. Total cross sections, and differential cross sections in terms of Feynman x , rapidity and p T 2 are given. It is found that about 40% of K n 's are produced together with a strange particle pair, and that 80% of Λ 0 's are produced together with a K K pair. These Λ 0, 's are produced predominantly in the backward direction. Fits to the form (1−| x |) n to the x F distributions of K n and Λ 0 in the fragmentation regions are found to be in general agreement with quark counting rule predictions.

Production of Vector and Tensor Mesons in Proton Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=52$.5-{GeV}

Inclusive production of ϱ0,f, andg0 mesons and ofKs0,K*0 (892), ϕ andK*0(1430)mesons has been measured at ∼2.6 and ∼1.1 GeV/c in proton-proton interactions at$\sqrt s= 52.5$ GeV. The negative particle from the two-body decays of these resonances were identified by a threshold Cerenkov counter and used for triggering. Starting from the measured differential cross section, total inclusive cross sections for the vector and tensor mesons were determined using various parametrizations for they andpT dependence of the differential cross section. The experimental results are discussed in the framework of production models based on the parton picture. The strangeness suppresion factor λ=(0.30±0.10) due toSU(3) symmetry breaking of the quark sea is derived.

Inclusive $\K^0$(s), $\Lambda$ and Anti-lambda Production in $\pi^+ D$ Interactions at 24-{GeV}/c

We have studied inclusive KS0, Λ, and Λ¯ production in π+d interactions at 24 GeV/c. The observed cross sections are 2.5±0.13 mb for KS0, 1.62±0.09 mb for Λ, and 0.12±0.02 mb for Λ¯. Longitudinal- and transverse-momentum distributions of the produced particles are presented. The average charged multiplicities of the system associated with a KS0 or with a Λ are presented and discussed. A nonzero average Λ polarization (-0.10±0.03) is observed. The x distribution of the backward (forward) KS0 and Λ produced in the reaction are in agreement with the x distribution of valence quarks in nucleons in nuclear target (pion beam), as predicted by the quark-recombination model of particle production applied to nuclear targets.

NEUTRAL STRANGE PARTICLE PRODUCTION IN PI- P INTERACTIONS AT 16-GEV/C

The production of K S 0 , Λ and Λ in π − p ractions at 16 GeV/ c is investigated. Cross sections for single strange particles are determined, both inclusively and as functions of the charged multiplicity. Some characteristics of the multiplicity distributions are also discussed. Inclusive distributions are studied as a function of the longitudinal and transverse variables of V 0 and the missing mass squared. The average charged multiplicities of the systems recoiling against the Λ and K S 0 are presented.

Inclusive Strange Particle Production in $\pi^- p$ Reaction at 6-{GeV}/$c$

The inclusive production of Λ , K S 0 , Σ ± (1385) and K ∗± (892) in π − p interactions at 6 GeV/ c has been studied. The observed cross sections are: σ ( Λ )=0.94±0.06 mb, σ (K S 0 )=0.98±0.06 mb, σ ( Σ + (1385))=60±7 μb , σ ( Σ − (1385))=90±9 μ b, σ( K ∗+ (892))=216±28 μ b and σ( K ∗− (892))=41±8 μ b , respectively. The inclusive spectra of these particles are presented as functions of squared transverse momentum and Feynman scaling variable x . The polarization of Λ has also been investigated. It is found from a comparison with higher-energy data that the inclusive cross sections for Σ ± (1385) and the production ratios Σ ± (1385)/ Λ in π − p at 6 GeV/ c have not reached the high-energy limiting values.
