The inclusive production cross section of Λ, Λ¯ in e+e− annihilation at a c.m. energy of 29 GeV has been measured with the time-projection-chamber detector at PEP. The average Λ, Λ¯ multiplicity has been measured to be 0.197 ± 0.012(stat.) ±0.017(syst.). Λ−Λ¯ pairs have been observed in jets for the first time, and the average number of Λ−Λ¯ pairs per event has been measured to be 0.042 ± 0.017 ± 0.014.

Phys.Rev.D 31 (1985) 996, 1985.
Inspire Record 205870 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23563

Bose-Einstein correlations between like-sign pions have been investigated in e+e− annihilation at √s =29 GeV using the Time Projection Chamber detector at the SLAC e+e− storage ring PEP. The production rate of like-sign pion pairs with small relative momentum is found to be increased by more than 50% over the rate expected for uncorrelated production of pions. From the correlation length, a typical source radius of 0.65 fm is derived. Data are consistent with a spherical shape of the pion source. No dependence of radius or correlation strength on the event multiplicity is observed.

Formation of the Tensor Mesons A2 (1320) in Photon-photon Interactions

Phys.Lett.B 149 (1984) 427-432, 1984.

We have measured the reaction γγ → π + π − π 0 using the PLUTO detector at PETRA. A pronounced enhancement is seen in the π + π − π 0 mass distribution corresponding to the A 2 meson. The event configuration in this enhancement favors a 2 + spin-parity assignment. The value of Γ γγ =1.06 ±0.18±0.19 keV obtained for the two-photon decay width of the A 2 agrees with previous measurements and with quark model predictions.

Measurement of the Total Photon-photon Cross-section for the Production of Hadrons at Small $Q^2$

The PLUTO collaboration Berger, Christoph ; Deuter, A. ; Genzel, H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 149 (1984) 421-426, 1984.
Inspire Record 204850 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30489

The total photon-photon cross section for the production of hadrons, σ γγ ( W , Q 2 ), has been measured in the single-tag condition for 0.1 < Q 2 < 1.0 GeV 2 and 1.5 < W < GeV. The results are based on 2929 multihadron events obtained with the PLUTO detector at PETRA. The Q 2 dependence of σ γγ average over W can be described by GVDM. The dependence of σ γγ on the mass W of the hadronic final state has been extracted at Q 2 = 0.44 GeV 2 by unfolding the effects of experimental resolution and acceptance. The cross section is found to rise at small W . The result is compared with VDM and the parton model.

A Measurement of the $Q^2$ and $W$ Dependence of the $\gamma \gamma$ Total Cross-section for Hadron Production

The PLUTO collaboration Berger, Christoph ; Deuter, A. ; Genzel, H. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 26 (1984) 353, 1984.
Inspire Record 204849 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16195

A measurement of the γγ total cross section, σγγ(Q2W), is presented for theQ2 range 0.1 to 100 GeV2, and for the massW of the hadronic final state between 1.5 and 10 GeV. The dependence of σγγ on bothQ2 andW is measured. The results are compared with theoretical predictions. It is found that the data are well described by a sum of quarkparton model and vector dominance contributions.

The inclusive production cross sections and transverse momentum distributions of K*0 and KS0 mesons in e+e− annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV have been measured by means of the time projection chamber detector in the PEP-4 experiment. The mean multiplicites are found to be 0.49 ± 0.04(stat.) ± 0.07(syst.) (K*0+K―*0) and 1.22 ± 0.03(stat.) ±0.15(syst.) (K0+K―0) per event.

EVIDENCE FOR THE F* MESON

Phys.Rev.Lett. 53 (1984) 2465, 1984.
Inspire Record 203890 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20409

Evidence for a narrow state decaying into an F meson and a photon has been obtained in e+e− annihilation events at 29-GeV c.m. energy. This state lies 139.5 ± 8.3(stat.) ± 9.7(syst.) MeV above the F-meson mass and is consistent with the expected F* meson. The F mesons are identified by a peak in the K+K−Kπ± mass at 1.948±0.028±0.010 GeV.

We have measured the differential cross section for pp and p̄p elastic scattering at √ s = 31, 53 and 62 GeV in the interval 0.05 < | t | < 0.85 GeV 2 at the CERN ISR using the Split Field Magnet detector. At 53 and 62 GeV, for 0.17 < | t | < 0.85 GeV 2 both pp and p̄p data show simple exponential behaviour in t ; at √ s = 31 GeV the data for 0.05 < | t | < 0.85 GeV 2 are consistent with a change in slope near | t | = 0.15 GeV 2 .

OBSERVATION OF STRANGENESS CORRELATIONS IN e+ e- ANNIHILATION AT S**(1/2) = 29-GeV

Correlations in rapidity space are presented for identified π± and K± in e+e− annihilation at 29-GeV c.m. energy. Short-range KK correlations indicate local flavor compensation in the hadronization process. Long-range KK and ππ correlations prove that the initial partons carry flavor. In addition, we observe significant Kπ correlations as a result of heavy-quark decays.

Pion Pair Production in Photon-photon Interactions

The PLUTO collaboration Berger, Christoph ; Deuter, A. ; Genzel, H. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 26 (1984) 199, 1984.
Inspire Record 204487 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16198

The processγγπ+π− has been measured with complete particle identification. Cross-sections are presented from near threshold up to the region of thef(1270). In the mass range 0.5–0.7 GeV, crosssections are lower than the Born term predictions and show no evidence for an ε(600). The two-photon width of thef(1270) is found to be in agreement with previous results.
