We present a measurement of jet shapes in p¯p collisions at √s =1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Qualitative agreement is seen with the predictions of recent next-to-leading [O(αs3)] calculations and with leading logarithm QCD based Monte Carlo simulations. The dependence of the jet shape on transverse energy is studied.

We report the observation and measurement of the rate of diffractive dijet production at the Fermilab Tevatron p¯p collider at s=1.8TeV. In events with two jets of ET>20GeV, 1.8<|η|<3.5, and η1η2>0, we find that the diffractive to nondiffractive production ratio is RJJ=[0.75±0.05(stat)±0.09(syst)]%. By comparing this result, in combination with our measured rate for diffractive W boson production reported previously, with predictions based on a hard partonic pomeron structure, we determine the pomeron gluon fraction to be fg=0.7±0.2.

We present the first observation of the all hadronic decay of tt¯ pairs. The analysis is performed using 109pb−1 of pp¯ collisions at s=1.8TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe an excess of events with five or more jets, including one or two b jets, relative to background expectations. Based on this excess we evaluate the production cross section to be in agreement with previous results. We measure the top mass to be 186±10±12GeV/c2.
The cross section is given in the paper at a TQ mass of 175 GeV. The values at TQ mass = (175 +- 10) GeV is evaluated as +20% and -12% as given in the paper. The statistical error has also been scaled.

Using 4.8 fb$~{-1}$ of data taken with the CLEO II detector, the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D~+\to\pi~0\ell~+\nu$ measured relative to the Cabibbo favored decay $D~+\to\bar{K~0}\ell~+\nu$ is found to be $0.046\pm 0.014\pm 0.017$. Using $V_{cs}$ and $V_{cd}$ from unitarity constraints, we determine $| f_+~{\pi}(0)/f_+~K(0)|~2=0.9\pm 0.3\pm 0.3$ We also present a 90% confidence level upper limit for the branching ratio of the decay $D~+ \to \eta e~+\nu_e$ relative to that for $D~+ \to \pi~0 e~+\nu_e$ of 1.5.
Formfactors for the D+ (D-) decay into pseudoscalar P. Charge conjugate states are implied. LEPTON+ means E+ or MU+. VCD and VCS are the elements of the CKM matrix (See R.M.Barnett et al (PDG), PR D54, 1 (1996)).
We present the results of a search for third generation leptoquark (LQ) pairs in 110±8pb−1of p¯p collisions at s=1.8TeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume third generation leptoquarks decay to a τ lepton and a b quark with branching ratio β. We observe one candidate event, consistent with standard model background expectations. We place upper limits on σ(p¯p→LQLQ¯)̇β2 as a function of the leptoquark mass MLQ. We exclude at 95% confidence level scalar leptoquarks with MLQ<99GeV/c2, gauge vector leptoquarks with MLQ<225GeV/c2, and nongauge vector leptoquarks with MLQ<170GeV/c2 for β=1.
The cross sections times branching ratio. KAPPA is an 'anomalous magnetic moment' (theoretical parameter). See text for details.
In exposures of the Argonne National Laboratory 12-ft bubble chamber filled with hydrogen and deuterium to a neutrino beam, we have observed events consisting of (1) a single π+ meson originating in the liquid, and (2) a proton with an e+e− pair pointing to it. Only a small fraction of these events can be ascribed to known reactions such as np→nnπ+ and np→npπ0. The remaining events, which correspond to a signal of about 4.5 standard deviations, we ascribe to the reactions νp→νnπ+ and νpπ0.

Using data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we determine the ratio R(chrg) for the mean charged multiplicity observed in Upsilon(1S)->gggamma events, to the mean charged multiplicity observed in e+e- -> qqbar gamma events. We find R(chrg)=1.04+/-0.02+/-0.05 for jet-jet masses less than 7 GeV.

Using data taken with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have determined the ratio of branching fractions: $R_{\gamma} \equiv \Gamma(\Upsilon(1S) \rightarrow \gamma gg)/\Gamma(\Upsilon(1S) \rightarrow ggg) = (2.75 \pm 0.04(stat.) \pm 0.15(syst.))%$. From this ratio, we have determined the QCD scale parameter $\Lambda_{\overline{MS}}$ (defined in the modified minimal subtraction scheme) to be $\Lambda_{\overline{MS}}= 233 \pm 11 \pm 59$ MeV, from which we determine a value for the strong coupling constant $\alpha_{s}(M_{\Upsilon(1S)}) = 0.163 \pm 0.002 \pm 0.014$, or $\alpha_{s}(M_{Z}) = 0.110 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.007$.

We present measurements of correlated bb¯ cross sections, μ−μ correlations, the average B0B¯0 mixing parameter χ¯, and a limit on the CP-violating parameter εB. For these measurements, we use muon pairs from bb¯ double semileptonic decays. The data used in this analysis were taken with the Collider Detector at Fermilab and represent an integrated luminosity of 17.4±0.6 pb−1. The results concerning bb¯ production correlations are compared to predictions of next-to-leading order QCD computations.

We present results of a search for W+W− production through the leptonic decay channel W+W−→l+l−νν¯ in p¯p collisions at s=1.8TeV. In a 108pb−1 data sample recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab, five W+W− candidates are found with an expected standard model background of 1.2±0.3 events. The W+W− production cross section is measured to be σ(p¯p→W+W−)=10.2−5.1+6.3(stat)±1.6(syst)pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction. Limits on WWγ and WWZ anomalous couplings are presented.
