A measurement of the cross section for the combined two-photon production of charged pion and kaon pairs is performed using 1.2~$\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the CLEO~II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. The cross section is measured at invariant masses of the two-photon system between 1.5 and 5.0 GeV/$c^2$, and at scattering angles more than $53^\circ$ away from the $\gamma\gamma$ collision axis in the $\gamma\gamma$ center-of-mass frame. The large background of leptonic events is suppressed by utilizing the CsI calorimeter in conjunction with the muon chamber system. The reported cross section is compared with leading order QCD models as well as previous experiments. In particular, although the functional dependence of the measured cross section disagrees with leading order QCD at small values of the two-photon invariant mass, the data show a transition to perturbative behavior at an invariant mass of approximately 2.5 GeV/$c^2$. hardcopies with figures can be obtained by writing to to: Pam Morehouse preprint secretary Newman Lab Cornell University Ithaca, NY 14853 or by sending mail to: preprints@lns62.lns.cornell.edu

Using the CLEO II detector operating at the e + e − Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR), we present evidence for new decay modes of the Ξ c + into Ξ 0 π + , Ξ 0 π + π 0 , and Ξ 0 π + π − π + . Using a data sample collected with the CLEO II detector at CESR, we have searched for dipion transitions between pairs of $\Upsilon$ resonances at energies near the $\Upsilon(4S)$. We obtain upper limits $B(\Upsilon(4S)\to \Upsilon(2S)\pi^+\pi^-) < 3.9 \times 10^{-4}$ and $B(\Upsilon(4S)\to \Upsilon(1S)\pi^+\pi^-) < 1.2 \times 10^{-4}$. We also observe the transitions $\Upsilon(3S)\to \Upsilon(1S)$, $\Upsilon(3S)\to \Upsilon(2S)$, and $\Upsilon(2S)\to \Upsilon(1S)$, from which we measure the cross-sections for the radiative processes $e^+e^- \to \Upsilon(3S)\gamma$ and $e^+e^- \to \Upsilon(2S)\gamma$.

The /\c->pKpi yield has been measured in a sample of two-jet continuum events containing a both an anticharm tag (Dbar) as well as an antiproton (e+e- -> Dbar pbar X), with the antiproton in the hemisphere opposite the Dbar. Under the hypothesis that such selection criteria tag e+e- -> Dbar pbar (/\c) X events, the /\c->pkpi branching fraction can be determined by measuring the pkpi yield in the same hemisphere as the antiprotons in our Dbar pbar X sample. Combining our results from three independent types of anticharm tags, we obtain B(/\c->pKpi)=(5.0+/-0.5+/-1.2)%

The CLEO experiment at the CESR collider has used 13.7 fb$^{-1}$ of data to search for the production of the $\Omega_c^0$ (css-ground state) in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} \simeq 10.6$ {\rm GeV}. The modes used to study the $\Omega_c^0$ are $\Omega^- \pi^+$, $\Omega^- \pi^+ \pi^0$, $\Xi^- K^- pi^+ \pi^+$, $\Xi^0 K^- pi^+$, and $\Omega^- \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^+$. We observe a signal of 40.4$\pm$9.0(stat) events at a mass of 2694.6$\pm$2.6(stat)$\pm$1.9(syst) {\rm MeV/$c^2$}, for all modes combined.

We report on a search for a supersymmetric $\tilde{B}$ meson with mass between 3.5 and 4.5 GeV/$c^2$ using 4.52 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity produced at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV, just below the $e^+e^-\to B\bar{B}$ threshold, and collected with the CLEO detector. We find no evidence for a light scalar bottom quark.

We have observed five new decay modes of the charmed baryon Λc+ using data collected with the CLEO II detector. Four decay modes, Λc+→pK¯0η, Ληπ+, Σ+η, and Σ*+η, are first observations of final states with an η meson, while the fifth mode, Λc+→ΛK¯0K+, requires the creation of an ss¯ quark pair. We measure the branching fractions of these modes relative to Λc+→pK−π+ to be 0.25±0.04±0.04, 0.35±0.05±0.06, 0.11±0.03±0.02, 0.17±0.04±0.03, and 0.12±0.02±0.02, respectively.

We report results on inclusive production of the charmed baryon Λc+ from e+e− annihilations at s=10.5 GeV. Measurements are presented of the inclusive cross section times branching fraction for the continuum production of Λc+ as observed in six different decay modes, and of a new, improved value of the Λc+ mass. The inclusive cross section times the branching fraction into pK−π+ is measured to be 10.0±1.5±1.5 pb summed over all xp. The branching fractions of Λc+ into pK¯0, pK¯0π+π−, Λπ+, Λπ+π−π+, and Ξ−K+π+ relative to that into pK−π+ are measured to be 0.44±0.07±0.05, 0.43±0.12±0.04, 0.18±0.03±0.03, 0.65±0.11±0.12, and 0.15±0.04±0.03, respectively. The Λc+ mass is measured to be 2284.7±0.6±0.7 MeV/c2. The measured momentum distributions for continuum production of Λc+ are compared to analytical fragmentation functions and to other measurements.
