Results are presented on the quasi-two body reactions π + p → Δ ++ π 0 and π + p → Δ s ++ η and 5.45 GeV/ c . Differential cross sections and Δ ++ spin density matrix elements in the t -channel and s -channel helicity systems are presented and compared with a Regge exchange model and the dual absorptive model.

NORMALIZED TO QUOTED TOTAL CROSS SECTION. NO BACKGROUND SUBTRACTION.
We present results for the hypercharge exchange reaction K − p→f' λ from a high statistics experiment at 8.25 GeV/ c using the CERN 2m HBC. The total and differential cross sections have been measured; the polarisation of the Λ hyperon and the f' density matrix elements have been calculated as functions of momentum transfer. We also present detailed information on the relative strength of the natural and unnatural parity exchange contributions to the production mechanism.

We report on A + 2 production in a π + p experiment at 5.45 GeV/ c . The fitted values for the mass and width are given, and the production characteristics are illustrated by the momentum transfer distributions and average density matrix elements. A depletion of events is observed near 1.3 GeV which favours a double pole amplitude or two interfering resonances over a simple Breit-Wigner formula.

D.M.E'S DETERMINED BY ASSUMING RHO22=0,RHO00=1-2RHO11.
Results are reported on the Δ ++ ϱ 0 and the Δ ++ ω 0 final states obtained from a 4 event/μb exposure of the Argonne National Laboratory 30 inch hydrogen bubble chamber to a π + beam at 5.45 GeV/ c . Data are presented on cross sections, differential cross sections, spin density matrix elements and differential cross-sections weighted by density matrix elements. Certain features of the data relevant to various Regge models are noted and the data is compared to a π -B exchange degenerate Regge model due to Abrams and Maor.

DOMINANT NATURAL PARITY EXCHANGE.
EVIDENCE FOR FORWARD DIP FOR -TP < 0.1 GEV**2.
The production ofK* resonances has been studied in the reaction\(K^ -p \to \bar K^0 \pi ^ -p\) at 8.25 GeV/c. The data comes from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment (180 events/μb). Masses, widths and production cross-sections have been determined for the first threeK*'s. The contributions from natural and unnatural parity exchange have been obtained for theK*(890) and theK*(1420). A partial wave analysis of theK π system from threshold to 1.9 GeV provides evidence for a 0+ enhancement near 1.4 GeV which could be interpreted as the κ(1350).

Measurements of helicity density matrix elements have been made for the φ(1020), D*± and B* vector mesons in multihadronic Z0 decays in the OPAL experiment at LEP. Results for inclusive φ produced with high energy show evidence for production preferentially in the helicity zero state, with ρ00 = 0.54 ± 0.08, compared to the value of 1/3 expected for no spin alignment. The corresponding element for the D*± has a value of 0.40 ± 0.02, also suggesting a deviation from 1/3. The B* result, with ρ00 = 0.36 ± 0.09, is consistent with no spin alignment. Off-diagonal elements have been measured for the f and D* mesons; for the D* the element Re ρ1−1 is non-zero, indicating non-independent fragmentation of the primary quarks.

The reactionsK−p→π∓Σ(1385)± are studied at an incident laboratory momentum of 8.25 GeV/c using data from a high statistics (≃180 events/μb) bubble chamber experiment. In the case of the reactionK−p→π−Σ(1385)+ an amplitude analysis is performed and the complete Σ(1385)+ spin density matrix is extracted as a function oft′. The results are compared with the predictions of the additive quark model. In the case of the reactionK−p→π+Σ(1385)− the cross-sections for forward and backward production are determined.
