New pp measurements of Delta sigma L and Delta sigma T between 200 and 520 MeV disagree with earlier Argonne data, and resolve discrepancies with inelastic data, phase-shift analysis and forward dispersion relations.

p̄p total cross sections have been measured from 220 to 413 MeV/ c in small (⩽ 10 MeV/ c ) steps of momentum with statistics of ± 0.5 %. There is no evidence for structure in the cross section, and a limit of 8 mb MeV/ c 2 is set with 90% confidence on the strength of any narrow resonance down to 250 MeV/ c .

A study of antiproton annihilation in liquid deuterium into π + π − π − and a spectator proton is presented. For a long time this reaction resisted a description by final state interactions which is surprising (and disturbing) given the success of the final state interaction model in other annihilation reactions. It is shown that the introduction of ρ (1450) is essential to get a reasonable description of the measured Dalitz plot. This resonance was never tried in previous attempts to understand this data. A possible isospin-2- ππ S-wave contribution was tested, but no evidence was found for such a contribution.

We confirm the existence of the two I G ( J PC ) = 0 + (0 ++ ) resonances f 0 (1370) and f 0 (1500) reported by us in earlier analyses. The analysis presented here couples the final states π 0 π 0 π 0 , π 0 π 0 η and π 0 ηη of p p annihilation at rest. It is based on a 3 × 3 K -matrix. We find masses and widths of M = (1390±30) MeV, Γ = (380±80) MeV; and M = (1500±10) MeV, Γ = (154 ± 30) MeV, respectively. The product branching ratios for the production and decay into π 0 π 0 and ηη of the f 0 (1500) are (1.27 ± 0.33) · 10 −3 and (0.60 ± 0.17) · 10 −3 , respectively.

Using 3.07 ${pb}^{-1}$ of data collected in the energy range 0.60-0.97 GeV by CMD-2, about 150 events of the process $\epm \to \pch$ have been selected. The energy dependence of the cross section agrees with the assumption of the $a_1(1260) \pi$ intermediate state which is dominant above 1 GeV. For the first time \fourpi events are observed at the $\rho$ meson energy. Under the assumption that all these events come from the $\rho$ meson decay, the value of the cross section at the $\rho$ meson peak corresponds to the following decay width: \Gamma(\rho^0 \to \fourpi) = (2.8 \pm 1.4 \pm 0.5) {keV} or to the branching ratio B(\rho^0 \to \fourpi) = (1.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 0.3) \cdot 10 ^{-5}.

We present a measurement of the differential cross section for $t\bar{t}$ events produced in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) of the top quark. The selected events contain a high-$p_T$ lepton ($\ell$), four or more jets, and a large imbalance in $p_T$, and correspond to 1 fb${}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity recorded with the D0 detector. Each event must have at least one candidate for a $b$ jet. Objects in the event are associated through a constrained kinematic fit to the $t\bar{t}\to WbW\bar{b} \to \ell\nu b q\bar{q}'\bar{b}$ process. Results from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations agree with the measured differential cross section. Comparisons are also provided to predictions from Monte Carlo event generators using QCD calculations at different levels of precision.

Analysing powers and differential cross sections for p p → π − π + and p p → K − K + have been measured over the full angular range using a polarised target at LEAR at 20 beam momenta from 360 to 1550 MeV/ c . Discrepancies in the normalisation of earlier d σ/ d Ω data at low momenta are clarified. Above 1000 MeV/ c , A 0N results confirm values close to +1 over most of the angular range for both reactions, in excellent agreement with earlier data of lower statistics. Below 1000 MeV/ c , where the analysing power is measured for the first time, large variations of A 0N with energy and angle are present.

We have observed the ηπ + π − and ηπ 0 π 0 decay modes of the E meson in p p annihilation at rest into π + π − π 0 π 0 η . The mass and width of the E meson are 1409 ± 3 and 86 ± 10 MeV. The production and decay branching ratio is B( p p → Eππ)B(E → ηππ) = (3.3 ± 1.0) × 10 −3 . With a spin-parity analysis we determine that J P = 0 − . The observation of the ηπ 0 π 0 decay mode establishes that E is isoscalar ( C = +1). We find that E decays to η ( ππ ) s (where ( ππ ) s is an S-wave dipion) and πa 0 (980)(→ πη ) with a relative branching ratio of (78 ± 16) %. Using the K K π production and decay branching ratio measured earlier we determine that B[E → K K π] B[E → ηππ] = 0.61 ± 0.19 . A comparison with observations in radiative J Ψ decays suggests that E and ι η (1416) are identical.
Unobserved channels (E --> ETA 2PI0)2PI0 and (E --> ETA PI+ PI-)PI+PI- was taken into account.
