We discuss how the spatial intermittency of energy dissipation in 3D fully developed turbulence affects the small-scale statistics of passive scalars. We relate the passive-scalar behaviour to the diffusion properties of particle pairs in turbulent fluids. We thus find the intermittency correction to the -5/3 Obukhov-Corrsin law for the power spectrum of a passive scalar at wavenumber k where molecular diffusion and viscosity play a negligible role (inertial convective subrange). This correction is positive at difference with the negative correction to the -5/3 Kolmogorov law for the energy spectrum. We finally show that the structure functions of passive scalars have scaling exponents linear in the moment order, even in the framework of multifractal models.

We have measured the difference between the pp total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states at beam momenta of 2.75, 2.92, 3.25, and 3.48 GeV/c. These results reveal possible new structure in this momentum range.

The SATURNE II polarized proton beam and the Saclay frozen spin polarized proton target were used to measure the total cross section difference Δσ T = −2 σ 1 tot at 26 energies between 0.43 and 2.4 GeV. Here Δσ T is the total cross section difference for transverse beam and target spins parallel and antiparallel, respectively, and σ 1tot is one of spin-dependent terms in the total cross section σ tot . The energy dependence of Δσ T below 1 GeV shows similar structures as for Δσ L . An additional minimum appears at about 1.3 GeV, which involves a structure in singlet spin partial waves.
Errors contain both statistics and systematics.
Measurements are reported of the difference ΔσL between proton-proton total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel spin states and of the parameter CLL for proton-proton elastic scattering near 90°, for thirteen energies between 300 and 800 MeV. The ΔσL results agree well with previous ANL ZGS and SIN data, but disagree with recent results from TRIUMF. Attempts to understand the cause of the discrepancy have been unsuccessful, but possible sources are discussed. The ΔσL and CLL results have been used with other experimental data to extract quantities which depend only on spin-singlet, coupled spin-triplet, and spin-triplet partial waves. Structure is found in these quantities, which appears to be associated with the resonantlike D21 and F33 partial waves. Additional similar structure is also found, which may be due either to the P03 partial wave or the (P23,F23) partial-wave pair.
ERROR IS STATISTICAL ONLY (ERROR IN BRACKETS IS STATISTICAL WITH THE ENERGY DEPENDENT UNCERTAINTIES FOLDED IN).
ERRORS ARE STATISTICAL ONLY. THERE IS ADDITION OF 2.0 AND 2.1 PCT SYSTEMATICS.

The difference between total cross sections in pure transverse-initial-spin states for the p−p interaction has been measured at Tp=487, 639, and 791 MeV, using a frozen-spin target. A comparison with previous data and available phase-shift analyses is made.

By using (pp) interactions at three different c.m. energies,\(\left( {\sqrt 8 } \right)_{pp} \)=30, 44, 62 GeV, it is shown that the average charged-particle multiplicity <nch>vs. the invariant mass of the hadronic systemm1,2 has the same behaviour as it hasvs. 2Ehad. Moreover, in both cases <nch> is shown to be nearly independent of\(\left( {\sqrt 8 } \right)_{pp} \) and in good agreement with the average charged-particle multiplicity measured in the (e+e−) annihilation.

By using three different c.m. energies in pp interactions,\(\sqrt s \), 44, 62 GeV, it is shown that the average charged-particle multiplicity <nch> sclaes with\(\sqrt s \) once the correct hadronic energy available for multiparticle production,Ehad, is used as basic parameter. The pp data, analysed in this way, are compared with e+e− data at equivalent energies. The agreement is very satisfactory.

We have measured the difference between proton-proton total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states [ΔσL=σtot(⇄)−σtot(⇄)] at 13 incident energies between 300 and 800 MeV, which cover the region of possible D21 and F33 diproton resonances. The present experiment has strongly confirmed the structure previously observed at the Argonne Zero Gradient Synchrotron. No additional narrow structure has been found.

We have measured the difference between the pp total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states at beam momenta of 1.0, 1.1, 1.30, 1.58, 1.71, 2.1, and 2.25 GeV/c in a transmission counter experiment. These results reveal new structure in the plab range of 1.0 to 2.5 GeV/c.

We have measured the difference between the pp total cross-sections for parallel and anti-parallel longitudinal spin states at beam momenta of 3 and 6 GeV/ c . These results, combined with our previous measurements, at lower momenta, are useful in clarifying a striking structure appearing at around 1.5 GeV/ c . We have also measured for the first time, the spin-spin correlation parameter C LL ( t ) in pp elastic scattering at 6 GeV/ c . We observe evidence for an exchange with A 1 -like quantum-numbers.
