Inspire Record 394981 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.41664

Nuclear shadowing is observed in the per-nucleon cross-sections of positive muons on carbon, calcium and lead as compared to deuterium. The data were taken by Fermilab experiment E665 using inelastically scattered muons of mean incident momentum 470 GeV/c. Cross-section ratios are presented in the kinematic region 0.0001 < XBj <0.56 and 0.1 < Q**2 < 80 GeVc. The data are consistent with no significant nu or Q**2 dependence at fixed XBj. As XBj decreases, the size of the shadowing effect, as well as its A dependence, are found to approach the corresponding measurements in photoproduction.

Measurement of the D*+- cross-section in two photon collisions at LEP

The ALEPH collaboration Buskulic, D. ; Casper, D. ; De Bonis, I. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 355 (1995) 595-605, 1995.
Inspire Record 394752 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47950

The inclusive production of D ∗± mesons in photon-photon collisions has been measured by the Aleph experiment at LEP with a beam energy of 45 GeV. The D ∗+ are detected in their decay to D 0 π + with the D 0 observed in three separate decay modes: (1) K − π + , (2) K − π + π 0 and (3) K − π + π − π + , and analagously for the D ∗− modes. A total of 33 events was observed from an integrated luminosity of 73 pb −1 which corresponds to a cross section for Σ( e + e − → e + e − D ∗± X ) of 155 ± 33 ± 21 pb. This result is compatible with both the direct production γγ → c c in the Born approximation and with a more complete calculation which includes both radiative QCD corrections and contributions in which one of the photons is first resolved into its quark and gluon constituents. The shapes of distributions for events containing a D ∗+ are found to be better described by the latter.

Production of neutron rich isotopes from the fragmentation of Si-28 projectiles at p(lab) = 14.6-GeV/c per nucleon

Phys.Rev.C 52 (1995) 956-963, 1995.
Inspire Record 406590 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25860

An investigation of the production of neutron-rich isotopes from the fragmentation of Si28 projectiles at plab=14.6 GeV/c per nucleon was performed using the BNL-AGS-E814 spectrometer. We have measured the inclusive production cross sections of neutron-rich fragments (6He, He8, Li8, Li9, Be10, Be11, and B13). We have also measured the transverse momentum distributions for He6 and Li9, and the forward and transverse energy distributions associated with He6 production. The momentum distributions were analyzed in the context of the Goldhaber model. The question of whether the fragments are produced in the decay of the projectile following its electromagnetic excitation was also investigated.

Measurement of nuclear transparencies from exclusive rho0 meson production in muon - nucleus scattering at 470-GeV

The E665 collaboration Adams, M.R. ; Aid, S. ; Anthony, P.L. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 74 (1995) 1525-1529, 1995.
Inspire Record 379818 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42484

Nuclear transparencies measured in exclusive incoherent ρ0 meson production from hydrogen, deuterium, carbon, calcium, and lead in muon-nucleus scattering are reported. The data were obtained with the E665 spectrometer using the Fermilab Tevatron muon beam with a mean beam energy of 470 GeV. Increases in the nuclear transparencies are observed as the virtuality of the photon increases, in qualitative agreement with the expectations of color transparency.

Scaled energy (z) distributions of charged hadrons observed in deep inelastic muon scattering at 490-GeV from xenon and deuterium targets

The E665 collaboration Adams, M.R. ; Aid, S. ; Anthony, P.L. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 50 (1994) 1836-1873, 1994.
Inspire Record 361348 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42540

Fermilab Experiment-665 measured deep-inelastic scattering of 490 GeV muons off deuterium and xenon targets. Events were selected with a range of energy exchange ν from 100 GeV to 500 GeV and with large ranges of Q2 and xBj: 0.1 GeV2/c2<Q2<150 GeV2/c2 and 0.001<xBj<0.5. The fractional energy (z) distributions of forward-produced hadrons from the two targets have been compared as a function of the kinematics of the scattering; specifically, the kinematic region of ‘‘shadowing’’ has been compared to that of nonshadowing. The dependence of the distributions upon the order of the hadrons, determined by the fractional energies, has been examined as well; a strong degree of similarity has been observed in the shapes of the distributions of the different order hadrons. These z distributions, however, show no nuclear dependence, even in the kinematic region of shadowing.

Measurement of the ratio sigma(n) / sigma(p) in inelastic muon - nucleon scattering at very low x and Q**2

We present results on the cross-section ratio for inelastic muon scattering on neutrons and protons as a function of Bjorken chi;. The data extend to χ values two orders of magnitude smaller than in previous measurements, down to 2×10 −5 , for Q 2 >0.01 GeV 2 . The ratio is consistent with unity throughout this new range.

Update of electroweak parameters from Z decays

The ALEPH collaboration Buskulic, D. ; Decamp, D. ; Goy, C. ; et al.

Inspire Record 354298 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47312

Based on 520 000 fermion pairs accumulated during the first three years of data collection by the ALEPH detector at LEP, updated values of the resonance parameters of theZ are determined to beMZ=(91.187±0.009) GeV, ΓZ=(2.501±0.012) GeV, σhad0=(41.60±0.27) nb, andRℓ=20.78±0.13. The corresponding number of light neutrino species isNν=2.97±0.05. The forward-backward asymmetry in lepton-pair decays is used to determine the ratio of vector to axial-vector couplings of leptons:gV2(MZ2)/gA2(MZ2)=0.0052±0.0016. Combining this with ALEPH measurements of theb andc quark asymmetries and τ polarization gives sin2θWeff=0.2326±0.0013. Assuming the minimal Standard Model, and including measurements ofMW/MZ fromp\(\bar p\) colliders and neutrino-nucleon scattering, the mass of the top quark is\(M_{top} = 156 \pm \begin{array}{*{20}c} {22} \\ {25} \\ \end{array} \pm \begin{array}{*{20}c} {17} \\ {22Higgs} \\ \end{array} \) GeV.

Anti-proton production in relativistic Si nucleus collisions

The E814 collaboration Barrette, J. ; Bellwied, R. ; Braun-Munzinger, P. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 70 (1993) 1763-1766, 1993.

We have measured antiproton production cross sections as functions of centrality in collisions of 14.6 GeV/c per nucleon Si28 ions with targets of Al, Cu, and Pb. For all targets, the antiproton yields increase linearly with the number of projectile nucleons that have interacted, and show little target dependence. We discuss the implications of this result on the production and absorption of antiprotons within the nuclear medium.
