The reactions K L o p→K S o p, π + Λ , π + Σ o have been measured for center-of-mass energies from 1540 to 1610 MeV. Channel cross sections and coefficients of the Legendre polynomial expansion of the differential cross sections and hyperon polarizations are presented. We see no evidence in the πΛ channel for the suggested 3 2 − resonance at 1580 MeV. The cross section for the K S o p channel shows an energy dependence which is not predicted by the existing phase shift solutions based on charged kaon data.

Measurements are presented of the cross sections for ω meson photoproduction from deuterium at an average photon energy of 3.9 GeV. The cross section for the coherent process γ d → d ω is found to be 1.4 ± 0.5 μ b and that for the incoherent process γ d → np ω is 3.3 ± 0.7 μ b. The forward differential cross section for γ d → d ω is estimated to be (d σ /d t ) t =0 = 54 ± 20 μ b/GeV 2 . This result indicates that the value of the A 2 exchange amplitude in ω photoproduction from hydrogen is less than that predicted from the measurements of the difference between the total hadron photoproduction cross sections from neutrons and protons. We note that the world data tend to show that the A 2 exchange amplitude is more consistent with zero than with the value needed to explain these differences. Measurements are also presented of the ratio of the coupling constants of the photon to the ϱ and ω mesons which tend to favour the vector dominance model proposed by Das, Mathur and Okubo with exact SU(3) symmetry at infinite energies.

The inclusive production of Σ + (1385) and Σ − (1385) has been studied in K − p interactions at 10 and 10 and 16 GeV/ c . It is found that the cross sections for the reactions K − p → Σ ± (1385) + anything are approximately constant in the energy range form 10 to 32 GeV/ c , being ≈ 350 μ b for Σ + (1385) and ≈ 250 μ b for Σ − (1385). The d σ d p ⊥ 2 distributions for Σ ± (1385) fall off exponentially with increasing p ⊥ 2 , with sloped of about 3 (GeV/ c ) −2 . The d σ /d x distributions for Σ + (1385) and Σ − (1385) are markedly different: the production of Σ − (1385) is symmetrical forwards and backwards in the c.m.s.; for Σ + (1385), the distribution is the same as for Σ − (1385) in the forward direction, but presents a large excess of events in the backward direction. This indicates that for the production of both Σ + (1385) and Σ − (1385) the fragmentation of the incoming kaon is negligible. The fragmentation of the target proton is negligible for Σ − (1385), but it is important for Σ + (1385) and is responsible for the excess (∼100 μ b) of its cross section over that for Σ − (1385).

Inelastic electron scattering cross sections have been measured for four-momentum transfers between 4.1 GeV 2 and 30.5 GeV 2 . At the large scattering angles of this experiment, the dominant contribution to the cross section comes from the W 1 structure function. In the conventional scaling variables, x and x ′, this structure function does not exhibit scaling behavior, and at fixed x or x ′ it is found to decrease with increasing four-momentum transfer.

We present a systematic analysis of the production of K ∗+ (892) and Δ ++ (1236) resonances in the K + p → K 0 p π + reaction at 5, 8.25 and 16 GeV/ c . We have measured total cross sections, differential cross sections, density matrix elements and examined resonance production mechanisms in terms of the exchange of states with definite naturality. Some results on the reaction K + p → K ∗+ (1420) p are also given.

The reaction K + p → p + X is studied at a beam momentum of 16 GeV/ c using the events where a slow proton with momentum p lab < 1.2 GeV/ c is identified by its bubble density. The inclusive spectra presented and compared with those obtained in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c and K − p interactions at 14.3 GeV/ c . The prominent features associated with a triple-Regge formula are found to be consistent with the data. It is shown that the Δ ++ (1236) production strongly affects the shape of the inclusive spectra and the results of the triple-Regge fit. After removal of events associated with Δ ++ (1236) production, the data are consistent with the dominance of an ffR coupling.

The analysis of A2−→ηπ− at 11.2 GeV/c confirms that A2− is essentially produced by natural-parity exchange. In the differential cross-section as a function oft′ there is evidence of the dip at smallt′ values. The branching ratio (A2→ηπ)/(A2→ϱπ) is 0.18±0.05.

Inelastic differential cross sections have been measured for π±p, K±p, and p±p at 140- and 175-GeV/c incident momentum over a |t| range from 0.05 to 0.6 GeV2 and covering a missing-mass region from 2.4 to 9 GeV2. For Mx2 greater than 4 GeV2, the invariant quantity Mx2d2σdtdMx2 was found to be independent of Mx2 at fixed t and could be adequately described by a simple triple-Pomeron form. The values obtained for the triple-Pomeron couplings are identical within statistics for all channels.
Data from 140 GeV and 175 GeV are combined. The distributions are fit to CONST*(SLOPE(C=1)*T+SLOPE(C=2)*T**2).
The reaction e + p → e' + n + π + was studied detecting e' and e' and π + in coincidence at an invariant hadronic mass of 2.19 GeV. The measurements were performed at electron four-momentum transfers squared of Q 2 = 0.06, 0.28, 0.70, and 1.35 GeV 2 in the range of t = ( γ v − π ) 2 between t min and −1.0 GeV 2 . The cross section d 2 σ / dtd was found to be roughly independent of Q 2 for Q 2 > 0.7 GeV 2 and ∥ t ∥ > 0.2 GeV 2 .
